  1. Yes, I think that maybe it was a "marriage" in name only in Vietnam. Given all that, I was surprised how pleased Lesley was to see Tina, when anyone can do the math and figure that the existence of Tina is not good re: the father (Henry?) from Lesley's world, and I would think that doing the math on Lesley would also have changed Tina's perception of her father. Oh...so I just put something else together, which is that the story of the father asking the Vietnamese mother to come to America probably couldn't have been true, given the existence of another wife and kid in America. I did notice that when Ann asked Tina what it was about Henry that made her mom fall for him, Tina's answer had nothing to do with any traits about Henry, and all she mentioned was him being a provider. Likewise when Ann asked something like why Tina was looking for him now, she also had a non-answer. Maybe Tina actually already knew some of this info, and wanted to wait a sufficient amount of time to allow emotions to have settled before meeting her half-sister? Regardless, Henry could have still provided for his daughter back in Vietnam once he returned to the U..S., but apparently did not do anything at all. Which is why I found it so odd how Tina called him "dad", which in America is something far more familiar than referring to someone as your "father", yet to me he had done nothing Dad-ish at all, and in fact just the opposite. I could envision young Nam having picked up Gary's full name because he was so fascinated with him. I don't think he had Gary's old phone number....he was given a phone number of Gary's from 2 years prior, by the archivist that had worked with him. And I don't think Gary actually remembered which child specifically was Nam. When Nam first saw Gary and said Gary hadn't changed, and Gary said the same about Nam, I thought that Gary was just being polite. That view was solidified for me when the two of them were looking at an old picture, and Nam pointed out which one was him, and Gary hadn't seemed to have known. But I do believe Gary did remember something about Nam's existence, because Gary said something about how Nam was the one who always followed him around.
  2. No comments from the Vietnam episode? I found this one engrossing, just like I did Mount St Helens. It was so interesting to hear the recording of Gary telling his backstory of how he was drinking and gambling and wasn't a nice person, and then he finds his calling helping refugees. And of course 12-year old Nam has no idea of any of that back story, and just sees Gary as this larger-than-life super-hero who can do anything. I was glad that the reunion with the older Gary didn't seem to disappoint Nam. I am really hoping that someone can help me figure out the timeline in the story with Tina. In that interview with her father from 1968 (?), the announcer asks if he has any message for Lesley, so that means he had a daughter already by the time he went to Vietnam. So how did he end up marrying Tina's mother in Vietnam? It appears that he stayed married to Lesley's mother, so it's not like he went over to Vietnam and got a divorce. Inquiring minds want to know!
  3. This episode was much more engrossing for me than last week's, I guess because there was the suspense of the unfolding of the Mt St Helens stuff. I teared up when she gave Mike the flag.
  4. This for me is the biggest mystery of this franchise. If I wanted villains and bitch-slapping, I'd watch Real Housewives. I'm a "right reasons" viewer, and I want my romance!
  5. That was something nice about the recent Family By the Ton episode. One of the family members who had the surgery, was told by the doctor that her blood pressure was now normal and she is no longer diabetic. If I"m not mistaken, Biggest Loser used to show the improvements, in those sessions with creepy "Dr H." By the way, does anyone know if that show is ever coming back? I have also wondered this. I think there's probably an element of denial, even if someone says in their voiceover, "I know I could die if I don't change". So many of them don't seem to have any major problems (besides the obesity) and I just don't understand how that's possible, but undoubtedly that contributes to their denial. I wondered that as well, and that is something that I have never wondered about before. All the other times, even if you can't see the weight loss everywhere, you can at least tell somewhere, like face but not arms, or upper body but not legs. Even with the short people that have been on the show, when there's a loss of this magnitude, it's definitely been visible. Not sure what to make of that.
  6. So here's my worry. In Naomi's post-surgery "talking head" (TH) narration, where she's wearing that pretty electric-pink top, you can tell that she has lost a significant amount of weight, compared to what she appears to weigh "now" (in episode-time). Drew, on the other hand, actually looks bigger to me in his yellow shirt post-surgery TH, which is worrisome. I am really cheering for him, and for all of them, and I would hate to find out that Drew doesn't make the lifestyle changes that he needs to. I also hope Chitoka doesn't let her inability to make it to the van cause a setback. It looked to me in the preview they showed for the next episode, where I think she was wearing a white tank top, that she had lost weight in her upper body.
  7. I used to be able to find Unfiltered on You Tube several seasons ago, but not anymore. And for whatever reason, Lifetime doesn't make it available on replay. So, please, hoping someone (or many) will recap and also post pics (and a link, if someone can capture the whole thing). The chats can actually sometimes give insights (like what people are saying here about Jephte), and I'm missing out! Thanks in advance.
  8. Other than probably some F1/F2 dates, that snippet of conversation with Tia (religion and her wrong-type dating) was one of the deepest/realest I recall ever seeing on the show (excluding the faux-deep ones where someone is explaining a past trauma). And I agree that she looked very pretty on that date. I don't understand the anger at Arie for changing the "rules". It's not like he actually changed the rules, and made strikes/spares count more for one team than the other. He simply decided to let the losing team join the winning team at the after-party. As was pointed out above, this has been done before. Sure, I could see it being disappointing, but something to be "hurt" about? And to conclude that it makes Ari a "liar"? Just wow. Put on your big-girl thong and suck it up, buttercup!
  9. Many years ago I heard about the "1/2 age plus seven" thing, and never heard it as determining a 'desirable' age for what men should be looking for, but heard it as basically determining a 'floor' age of dating acceptability (for lack of a better word) for both men and women.
  10. I guess I'll get it started. I was all set to love this show, but it fell flat for me. It shouldn't have, because I cry pretty much every time at the endings on "Long Lost Family". But I just didn't feel the emotion from these stories. I don't know if that's because of the format, the host, or the content. I'll keep watching anyway out of curiosity for the different types of reunions.
  11. I get the impression from this episode (and one before it, which I can't remember who it was) that these adults are annoyed about how their parents treated their obesity in childhood, because the parents were focused on "How can we get the child to eat less?" instead of "What is the reason behind why the child is eating so much?" In pretty much every case we've ever seen, there is some childhood trauma or hurt that contributed to the child developing an eating problem, and I think that as kids (and now as adults) they resent that the parents weren't talking to them about what was going on in their lives at the time. Actually, "being on a diet" isn't necessarily related at all to portion control. From what we've seen with most of the cases, being on a diet has usually meant subsisting on some weird combination of a few permitted foods. Almost never have we seen someone that in their past has "dieted" as meaning balanced meals in reasonable proportions. Maybe they had proper portions as a child, but that was awhile ago and when someone else was doing it for them. If you've been overeating for a long time, I totally can see just having no idea of proper portions...we've seen it time and time again on this show. And if you're now eating what your family ate when you were growing up, with an almost total lack of awareness of food content, it's a "recipe" for failure. I totally agree that a nutritionist should be the first step, which should be followed closely by a therapist, and then a trainer, before these patients waste their many, many months (and the months of their friends and family) failing/flailing. Yes! I think in her case it really was about inertia and "this is how I've always done it" (or "not done it" as the case may be). If someone had come to her home and made specific suggestions about activities and exercises she could do around the house, I suspect she might have done them (especially if they could have hooked her up with an accountability partner in her same situation) if for no other reason than to relieve the boredom.
  12. LOVED the "tooth-to-tattoo" ratio! Yes, it's too bad, because I so prefer the ones with "normal" people where we can focus on the heart of the eating-related problem, without being distracted by the unsupportive spouse, or house overrun with cats, etc
  13. Insider rant, here...early in the episode one of them mentioned the "tri-state area". That is the term most famously used for NY, NJ, and Conn, which is def not where this show takes place. Nobody in the "DMV" (District of Columbia, MD, and VA) would ever call it the tri-state area (yes, I know that DC is not a state). And if they were talking about VA, MD, and WV, that's still not called the tri-state area.
  14. My biggest problem was the very first scene, when the lawyer was in the house the morning after the murder. The only way to compel someone to "come to the station" is to arrest them, and because there had been zero investigation up to that point, then there is no way on earth that the police had any grounds the next morning to arrest her...and the lawyer DAMN SURE would have known that.
  15. What I don't understand is how on earth the "experts" ever chose Jephte to be a match for anyone, given that it is highly unlikely he showed much personality in the interviews. Many of the posters here have said that the experts make matches to stir up trouble, not to find soul mates...but even if that is true, they still need their "cast members" to show some life to hold the viewers' interest. He is just a disaster for this show (not saying in real life there isn't a match for him, but he's not teevee material!).
  16. On the Becca cinderella date, he spoke to her exactly as he did to Seinne, and to almost all of the women when he interacts with them one-on-one...as if he were interacting with them at a lunch/dinner for a job interview. I have specifically noticed the difference many times in how he talks to Bekah, where he sounds like a normal person speaking to someone in a casual way.
  17. I think there is a feature on eBay that lets you choose a higher dollar max amount that you will let eBay automatically increase your bid up to, when someone else has equaled your bid. Yes, I absolutely noticed it at the time.
  18. So Mykelti wants to save money by having her mother make 7,000 flowers? That is literally insane. What were they for? Why did there need to be so many? How many did Mykelti help with? Wait, we know the answer to that one! I cannot imagine imposing on someone (especially my mother) like that. Holy sh*t that girl is entitled. Regarding the Janelle/Christine gaining weight thing...I have the opposite theory. I don't think he was ever attracted to Janelle, and he married her for reasons other than attraction/sex (her working and bringing home the bacon). But I think he found potential attraction with Christine, and that's why he was so bothered by how she ate nachos and by her gaining weight.
  19. So Mykelti wants to save money by having her mother make 7,000 flowers? That is literally insane. What were they for? Why did there need to be so many? How many did Mykelti help with? 20. What the actual f*ck is wrong with that bat-sh*t crazy woman? I would rather watch slow-clapping man (biggest Catfish disaster I could remember) for 24 hours straight than watch that personification of a train-wreck/dumpster-fire for even 10 seconds.
  21. Love the name "Tokelti" because it sooo doesn't work as one of those cute, mash-up names!
  22. "Training" is definitely the operative word. She has clearly been muddling along at "sales" without any training (whether formal or informal).. Yes. She also needs more simulations and one-on-one coaching to accompany the training. And probably a few sessions with a psychologist to help her move past whatever underlying reasons are making her deal with failure the way she is. For this business, I'm not sure that a standard salesperson is what they need. I think they need someone who knows the product inside and out like she does. I actually think she has potential, but she's not quite there yet.
  23. Some of these comments may have been posted already, but I had to list my hall of shame for the episode. In no particular order: Kodouche's egotism has no bounds. He had to make Maddie and Caleb's baby news (first grandchild!) all about him by saying how he now wants to have another child. Ewww. I wonder if the idiot wives have even paid any attention to the lyrics of "I Will Survive". The only legit reason for them to choose that particular song for Mykelti's bridal shower, is to convey a subtle/not-subtle message to her about how they'll be there to support her when she decides tell FT to "go, walk out the door, don't turn around now, 'cause you're not welcome anymore". If that's not their goal, then get a clue. Although it was a tiny snippet of a scene, and easy to overlook, the scene at the taco tasting table with FT shoving Mykelti out of the way so he can take the seat that she wanted, was really disturbing. Multiply that by 1,000 and that's what Mykelti can look forward to in her daily life with FT. It was also quite odd when FT took off his wedding ring, because first of all I'm surprised that no one had noticed he was wearing one already, but also he just kind of threw it onto the table and asked if anyone wanted to see it. His stated reason for already wearing one -- to show that he that he is "taken" -- was not, I suspect, for Mykelti's benefit but for his ego's. I join those who are feeling dirty that we side with Kodouche about the business concerns with the purchase of this stupid inn/B&B, which Meri by her own admission said she isn't interested in for the business, but because she wants the home back in the family. Which brings me to the sentiment that best encapsulates everything that is wrong with the whole entire Brown Clown clan. Meri said something like, "If the wives could see how much this means to me, they wouldn't poop all over the idea with logic." That's their mantra -- "I want it, so I deserve to have it"...and logic/consequences be damned. (see Exhibit 1, Mykelti's wedding behavior) (see Exhibits 2-infinity with bankruptcies, liens, vanity store project, Robin's honeymoon to Hawaii, etc.)
  24. Yes indeed.....that's why I think that there's a (probably subconscious) desire for thinner sister to stay in that position vis-a-vis her fatter sister, so she is sabotaging in actuality (buying the bad food) while trying to make herself look good in the voiceover saying something about Chitoka knows better than to ask for any of the foods from the banned foods list. If barbecued chips are on the acceptable list (which I think is what thinner sister was calling Chitoka about from the store), then it doesn't sound like the banned list is much of a hardship.
  25. I absolutely thought that Carlos was going to be killed as he was sitting in front of the hospital. And for awhile, I thought Tanner's ex-wife was also going to be killed at the same time, since he told her to go ahead over to the area with Carlos, while he was still in the car. But then I figured this show isn't known for being super-dark. What was the point of having Tanner walk in the opposite direction from the gathering with Carlos at the end? Is this show really cancelled, and we will not find out who killed Mia? I really enjoyed this show, and will miss it!
