  1. From reading all the negative comments about Charles, I wonder if the show realizes that so many of us feel that way now. I don't think it was intentional on their part, to have us come to feel this way...I think it's just Darren Starr being tone deaf, or something.
  2. Love it! It was a little confusing. I didn't think they ever asked him to get involved. I thought Marcus said they were selling the glasses in his store, and he decided to look into the company further. Actually, to me it was worse than that. Since I don't recall them asking Marcus to bail them out, I think they weren't concerned at all about profitability or lack thereof. That type of trivial concern is far beneath their hipster-ness and the importance of their brand's vibe. Somehow, magically, it would all work out fine [crossed fingers for luck, fairy dust, abracadabra]...just like magically [ahem, parents] everything had worked out growing up. (I exclude Aristotle for the obvious parent situation, and I guess I'm mostly talking about the two idiots -- the stoner and the no-idea guy.) I like Marcus's tweet, because of the importance of people understanding the possible overwhelming impact to the business of something from someone's personal life. Aristotle's loss affected every.single.aspect of his business for the negative.
  3. Since I had so many major hates, I left off my minor ones. One of them, is that IIRC, they were congratulating Barb on how well the kid did at the public speaking portion of his presentation (or something like that), and she said something like "Yeah, he's a natural". I didn't get the impression that it was in any way sarcastic, nor that she was just blindly praising her kid...it sounded like we (the audience) were supposed to go along with that notion. But at the practice session in the house beforehand, he was anything but natural, and we don't have any reason to believe his delivery changed for the actual presentation. Another was that, in spite of how snippy/bratty Mike's daughter had been outwardly, of course deep down she really does like Abby (as seen in the video), and it's all warm fuzzies, almost instantly. I really like Jo and Albert too...therefore the writers will not let them remain together.
  4. OK, so here's my stab at why I think it will be Charles (regardless of whether I think it should or not): After all the years of the show with Charles and Josh, I don't think the writers will go the route of someone new. So if it is to be Charles or Josh, Liza had feelings for Charles all the while she was with Josh, even 'cheating' on Josh to kiss Charles. Josh has made it clear that he would like kids, and Liza has indicated that she is done with that. Charles is her intellectual equal in a way that Josh isn't. Charles is the more traditional partner in terms of age and experience, and most shows go that way. Charles is the one that events/fate has kept apart from Liza, and most shows go that way.
  5. Oh, forgot something. When Barb and her sister were discussing the husband/ex's infidelity, neither mentioned the equally big problem of the lie that he told to his wife about Barb having made advances to him in a restroom, that he apparently heroically fended off. This is sooo problematic because he used a lie to attempt to totally avoid having to take responsibility, which he thought he'd be able to get away with, which is doubly stupid because the sisters weren't still estranged, and it was very likely that the sis would confront Barb, and thereby hear Barb's side of the story and expose his lie. It compounds the cheating, and raises the relationship red flags to another level. On the fashion front, Abby's striped dress/culotte/whatever for her drinks/gab-session with the gals, was cut far too low, looked ridiculous, and required her to sit ram-rod straight on the couch in order for it not to cause a wardrobe malfunction.
  6. Hate-watching continues, in no particular order: Boy oh boy, these people sure go to their friends'/lovers' places of employment a lot, just for kicks...Phoebe went to Delia's to warn her off of Tony, Albert went to Jo's to touch base about the wrestling evening, and Abby went to Mike's to "bring him dinner" (not sure I believe it ever was about that in the first place). Aside from the unrealistic-ness of that, at most big buildings after hours, there is security and you can't just walk in and go wherever you want like Abby did at Mike's; and at big law offices you also can't just walk in during the day to visit your friend unannounced. I would imagine that given all the troubling incidents that have occurred nationwide, that places are even stricter than before, even when the people are known friends/family. It was also odd that Delia just expected Phoebe to come to her office at the drop of a hat to give her the shot. And continuing my comment about the last episode, with so freaking many personal arguments in front of other people...we've got Barb and her sister at the school, and Abby and Mike at work (which was so OTT, even for queen-of-making-scenes Abby) I also thought it was weird/unrealistic that Barb's kid would leave the classroom to come out to the hall and ask why the three adults were whispering Just like last week, when Abby unnecessarily dragged drama into her house by inviting Jake and girlfriend to stay for dinner (especially when she had specifically said they would only be dropping by the pick up the kids), Jo tried (unsuccessfully) to drag drama into her house by inviting Frumpkis to crash at her place. They made a big deal of showing the time (7:52) as Abby was getting pissed at Mike. So when we cut to Delia going to Phoebe's house, it was still very early in the evening for her to expect that Phoebe would be home from her date. And for Delia to then continue being willing to just wait potentially hours and hours at Phoebe's house if the date had gone well? The real Delia character would be skeeved out by Tony, not turned on and intrigued. He's been in prison, and she would know about the history of unreliability, drugs/drinking, etc. She absolutely would not have pulled her dress up and panties down for basically a complete stranger, especially when, if she was really desperate for the shot, she could have revealed far less to expose the area that needed the shot. Yes, Delia came off as a little flirty with Tony at Phoebe's house, but she did not "lead him on" the way Tony accused her. His comment rang pretty entitled/potentially scary to me. Again, it won't be a red flag to her, especially since, as voiceover pointed out above, Phoebe's lecture turned Tony into the "best kind of candy" For Pete's sake, do people really dress the way Abby did to hang around the house and eat dinner? Totally unrealistic that two people like Mike and Abby would not have had a discussion prior to blending their families, about the issue of disciplining the other person's kids. First, a conversation between Mike and Abby, then probably each with just their own, then one big conversation altogether with all the kids. Mike's brat daughter needed to be shut.down with the "whipped" comments. Abby was soooo absurdly a try-hard in those 'togetherness/happy family' scenes around the house. As usual, my #1 hate is reserved for Abby, and it's a tie between 1) her absolute idiocy and wildly overstepping her bounds at the restaurant (as well as being horribly unable to read a room) when she mentioned about possibly getting the mic that Mike's daughter wanted, and then later saying to the daughter that "I didn't realize your mom and dad felt so strong about not getting the mic" 2) the inane-ness of Abby's statement to Mike's daughter that "I'm going to put myself to bed". Really? Adults say "I'm going to bed." Children, who are used to being put to bed by someone else, might say "I'm going to put myself to bed." I was confused about something that was said but I didn't quite catch. When Barb and her sister were talking at Jo's restaurant, and the sister mentioned about meeting with the pastor, the sister said, "I still love him." Then she said something, and even though I replayed it three times, I still couldn't understand what she was saying...the part in bold is what it sounded like, but I know it's wrong. "Thought I could cheat yet, but I can't." Does anyone know what she said?
  7. I didn't prefer Josh and Liza together, but that was back when Charles was more likable, and before the lack of kissing chemistry between Liza and Charles had overwhelmed me. Now that Josh seems more mature than Charles, and given that there's never been any kissing chemistry problems with Liza and Josh, I guess I'm trying to convince myself to change my allegiance!
  8. Maybe boring, but I loved these two as a couple...very nice change of pace from the various combos of single/married/dating dysfunction we've been subjected to over the past years.
  9. This, a million times! And it seemed uncharacteristic of Liza, who we've seen being very concerned about things she does impacting people negatively. I feel like we've especially seen her demonstrate concern for people in a lower station being put-upon, given how Diana treats her at work sometimes.
  10. I happened to have paused the show right on a scene where his lips were pursed out, just like the look of the actresses who play Alison and Helen on The Affair...very duck-lippy. It didn't ring true to me that Liza would have chosen that moment on the street where Charles is clearly pissed, to make a pitch for him getting to know the real her. First of all, the traits he likes (supposedly falling in love with) are the real Liza already. But mainly, I thought she was better at 'reading a room' than that, and would have known that was not the right time. But then again, she did mis-read it an episode or two ago, when she was in his office and he started saying something about how she hasn't been treated fairly in this office (or something like that), and she interrupted him thinking that he meant from the 'personal' perspective, so she went blabbing about her personal feelings about him...when actually, he had meant 'professionally'.
  11. I'm confused about where Alison works vis-a-vis Montauk. Way back when, Noah got very pissy about how far away it was. And the worker who told Alison that the conference would be in Montauk, seemed to be saying it in a way that meant that it's not just the next town over. So why on earth would Alison call Cole, and why would he come, from multiple hours away in Montauk to help jump start her car? Seems like a very valid point! Also, it would seem to be very easy to spin her possible new hospitality industry employment with the Japanese group, as the "specialized skill" (I think that's what she called it) green card criteria Luisa was saying that she doesn't have. She and Cole could take the buy-out/franchise opportunity, she could take the job and they could move to Miami for a few years, she could become a citizen, and then with all their money they could move back to Montauk and buy whatever kind of business they wanted to run. Heck, they could probably come back and run the Lobster Roll, since they would still be part of the ownership group.
  12. Rarely do I think a guy looks better in glasses, especially those dark-rimmed hipster-ish ones, but wow, Connor went from "not" to "hot" in the brief shot of him wearing them...he should wear them more often! Very interesting analysis...I totally agree, but hadn't thought of it.
  13. I am soooo hate-watching! I just couldn't, with so many things from this ep, many of which just make no sense but are plot-furthering devices: Delia's flighty-ness about the whole baby thing, like it's just a fun lark Delia bringing the sperm donor printout with her to the classroom stalking and shoving it the face of some guy she doesn't even know, and Phoebe going along with the idea...what the hell kind of a reaction did they think it was going to get? Phoebe's kids immediately taking to Uncle Tony, so much that they make him a wonderful breakfast The kids not being skeeved out that Uncle Tony was in prison (no, not all children would think that is so cool) Phoebe getting started with giving a speech to her kids about Uncle Tony leaving when she didn't even know yet if that was true or not Jake and what's-her-name being invited to Jo's party At Jo's party, with an opportunity to sample food prepared by a famous chef, NO ONE volunteers for the taste test When no one volunteers for the taste test, Abby thinks that out of all the people in the whole party, it's best to volunteer someone who Jo barely knows along with someone Jo has never met before Jake insisting that because he pays child support, he gets a say in what Abby does to the house that's no longer his, and Abby caving and letting Jake force her into asking his permission for the drywall installation Jake telling Abby that he's going to propose...Abby then telling her friends and mother-in-law about the proposal...the mother-in-law blabbing about the proposal at Jo's party Everyone, always, conducting personal arguments in front of other people But my #1 hate-watching moment from the entire show (drum-roll please) was when Abby, who had just been talking to Mike about how Jake and what's-her-name will only drop by to pick up the kids and be gone soon, changes her mind after seeing them/meeting the girl, and invites them to stay for dinner...and doesn't call Mike to warn him (which the Abby character actually would have, at the very least so that he could have changed his clothes for her look-at-my-great-and-handsome-boyfriend shtick). She simply invited (literally!) loads and loads more drama, which is one of the many things I hate about the character. On the plus side, no Barbara...sorry, but the way they shoe-horned her character in to the inner circle of the 4 women, has bothered me from the start. It was a bit more realistic with how they did it when Alanna Ubach replaced Janeane Garofalo, because of the nature of their characters, but even then it was a bit of a stretch.
  14. The part that really showed his true colors, is that the very first words out of his mouth when he got to sit down with Becca, were something like "You owe me about 50,000 kisses." That is the attitude he chooses to put forth during his valuable discussion time? Plus remember that while talking to the guys beforehand as he was melting down, he said something like "She needs to prove herself to me." We've seen guys that were cocky, like Jordan, but this was a different level of entitled and delusional. When he was giving that spiel about how the best went last during the singing competition, and he is the frontrunner now, and he didn't need to make time to talk to Becca during the party because she was saving the best for last again, it was just bizarre. We're from the DC metro area, about 90 minutes outside Richmond. Virginia's motto (popular years ago) was "Virginia is for Lovers". When Becca said something about going south to somewhere known for love, my son said "Virginia?" I didn't even pay that any attention, because I thought it was so ridiculous that of all the places this show could go, they would choose Virginia...aaannd yet, they're going to Richmond [stunned silence]. Although I don't find Wills that attractive, and he seems way too low-key and low-energy for me, I have to give him mad props for how he handled the Chris-cut-in drama, which he basically transformed into a no-drama. Also props to Jordan for admitting that the Zoolander stereotype was true! After they announced about going to Richmond, and with this hot-tub-and-desert scenario still in my head, I said out loud "The producers must hate Becca."
  15. What a great phrase...and so appropriate because during those emotional times when he's bottling things up, he even looks constipated!
  16. I could almost, almost, understand the rationale for buying fast food for dinner; with 5 kids and her, it could be challenging. However, buying fast food for breakfast???? That actually requires more work/time. Instead, get some reasonably healthy cereals, milk, and some fresh fruit...the kids could fix it themselves, it would be cheaper, it would be healthier, and it would be easier.
  17. Love it when people "get" the dangling participle problem! Eric, definitely yes. Eventually they will get around to a black male lead, and I hope it's him. Aside from that one rant about "my name is in your mouth" or whatever, he seemed well-behaved, and I loved his enthusiasm, maturity, and kindness around Rachel, especially given that I seem to remember he had a pretty bad, no-male-role-model upbringing. Kenny, OTOH, had that prolonged profanity-laced tirade on his two-on-one (with Lee?). And while I can appreciate that he was emotional, he set an absolutely terrible example for his daughter, and missed a great opportunity to model how to handle such emotionality (nod to Jordan!) in a way that doesn't bring you down to their level.
  18. Thanks for the explanation! At least you've got some logic behind it. What was so weird about Becca's, was that she didn't do it upon first seeing someone, which is the "correct" B'ette way...she did it after getting out of the car with the person she'd just been riding with! Also, I didn't know who Jason Momoa was, but I went to look and I have to respectfully disagree. I don't think Leo is particularly good-looking, but he is definitely better-looking than Momoa and his frightening eyebrows. Leo looks like he'd be a nice, warm, friendly person, and better-looking with short hair.
  19. I don't get the brand at all. When I kept seeing it, I figured it was for a heart-related charity, like how people wear different colored ribbons for charity. Otherwise, uh, why would you want to wear a huge broken heart logo? Is it supposed to be for people to wear when they've recently broken up or had a death that has left their heart broken? So I went to their website https://brknheart.com/, and this is what it says in About [the bolding is mine, for my analysis afterward]: Don't be fooled by what you see, this heart is unbreakable, this woman is unstoppable. No matter the challenges and hurt our hearts may be confronted with, we get back up. Women persevere. You can't minimize us. You cannot tear us down. We will never stop showing up with an open heart, ready to take on the world. Pop art shades and subtle monotones artfully coexist on our hoodies, t shirts, button downs, outerwear, sweatshirts, sweatpants, bags, and accessories with an urban, rebellious flair. BRKN Heart is a minimalist line of casual sportswear essentials with an edgy, graphic feel and a compelling message. We source only the finest materials from cashmere to pima cotton to leather, our clean designs that spotlight an evocative logo capturing the spirit of an era that glorifies the power of celebrating your true heart without fear. WTF? First of all, if the heart is unbreakable, then why are you showing the exact opposite? Wouldn't that be like owning a cake/pie/cookie bakery and only having advertising photos showing bread? Second, they have products for men...nice to not only tacitly ignore them in your mission statement, but explicitly exclude them Third, there is nothing edgy or graphic about solid color clothing with a heart on it. Fourth I literally have no idea what the message is from looking at the clothing. Fifth, it is not an evocative logo...it looks like something from the American Red Cross organization. Sixth, what era are they talking about...is it now? Seventh, since the logo literally depicts a broken heart, and that is what the entire line is called, then that is what is being celebrated...so our true hearts are broken. Their About statement reads exactly like the written equivalent of what Marcus did when he re-branded that salon's hair care line. It's so much verbal diarrhea, that is supposed to convey some wonderful/uplifting/strong/powerful message but actually means nothing. Actually, it reads like something that if it was written by a company other than one of Marcus's, he would have done a takedown on it.
  20. Yeah, but it was so unrealistic that she chose to say what she did to Charles at that moment, in front of Liza, and in front of the crowd which was probably still looking at her...and it was also so unrealistic that Charles stared so intently at Liza while saying what he did. Depending on how hurt or angry Pauline still is, she could use the info that she clearly just figured out, to ruin Charles and maybe Empirical, all while her book sales would probably go through the roof. Also, when Charles mentioned wanting to talk with Liza after the book tour (prior to their blow-up), she seemed totally fine waiting how ever many weeks that would be. It's just so stilted that after finding out for sure that his marriage is over, she'd be fine waiting that long to even have a personal conversation with this guy that she's so gaga over.
  21. I re-wound it because the whole thing had been confusing...I don't think that he was saying anything in particular, because it looks like he used the whispering as a ploy to get close enough to her face to kiss her.
  22. Then I'm very glad I never watched SATC! The only show I watched that did that, was Grey's Anatomy, where they would literally run into an ongoing surgery to urgently blab about some personal "crisis"...and I stopped watching because of it. This is the only show I hate watch. There are some others that are at times an annoy-watch (Younger, The Affair), but nothing approaches this show...and it's been that way from the first season.
  23. I love the call-back to the Geico commercial phrase! My husband and I always say that second part to each other after either of us says the first. This bothered me SOOOOO much! I feel like what happened for me with Rachel, is happening with Becca. I really liked Rachel, and thought she would be a great Bachelorette. But she got really full of herself really quick. I feel the same way with Becca. She just totally and completely ignored Wills' heartache, even though she is supposedly trying to get to know these guys on a deeper level. Even if she knows she isn't really feeling it with him, she could at least have been polite and asked him about it when he first mentioned it. I had thought maybe the editing monkeys had cut it from that first conversation, but it was obvious from how he brought it up the second time, that she indeed hadn't asked him any more about what he said. I would think that if I were the B'ette, I'd jump at the chance to discuss something unique in the conversations with the guys, rather than listen to myself say versions of the same thing over and over to different guys.
  24. The only truly passionate, open-mouth kissing I've seen her do, even with the people she really likes (Garrett, Blake), is Jason. I feel like we've seen her kiss almost everyone, and usually initiated by her with her phrase "Come on, bring it in" or something like that. Love this phrase!
