Adam Jones, my baseball boyfriend, is retiring as an Oriole on the 15th. Yeah, I bought tickets and am looking forward to going to a night game. It's easier to read the scoreboard.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
ebk57 replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
All of the Jacuzzi Bath Remodel commercials - The one with the woman who sounds like she's one of the porn stars in the SNL fake commercials, especially when she's naming all the remodel names: https://www.ispot.tv/ad/2lPv/jacuzzi-bath-remodel-50-off-installation-and-free-fixtures-featuring-christina-hall And more recently, the screaming woman. I hate her. -
On MGM+ tonight (August 20th) and next Sunday, August 27th. From the Epix/MGM+ website: "From Jigsaw Productions, The Kennedy/Marshall Company, Amblin Television, and Jeff Pollack—the team behind the three-time Emmy-nominated documentary Laurel Canyon: A Place in Time—the series tracks the history of the San Francisco music scene from 1965 to 1975. During this time period, there was a creative explosion in San Francisco that catalyzed and solidified a national movement for a whole generation. Incredible music, brilliant poster art, the birth of the FM radio DJ, the new journalism of Rolling Stone magazine, the emergence of growing-breaking live music impresario, Bill Graham, and seminal festivals—Monterey Pop, Altamont, and Woodstock—propelled Bay Area musicians onto a national scene and into the ears of millions. Some of the greatest artists of the ‘60s came out of that scene such as the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone, Janis Joplin, Big Brother & the Holding Company, Steve Miller, Santana, Moby Grape and so many more. Frank Marshall, Jeff Pollack, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Stacey Offman, Richard Perello, Aly Parker, and Alison Ellwood are attached as executive producers along with Jeff Jampol, Mark Pinkus, Charlie Cohen, Tom Mackay and Richard Story. Erin Edeiken and Tess Ranahan serve as producers. Ellwood and Anoosh Tertzakian serve as co-directors. Jigsaw Productions, The Kennedy/Marshall Company and Amblin Television are producing in association with FourScore Entertainment, Sony Records and Warner Music Entertainment." I watched part 1 tonight and it was wonderful to see the footage and listen to the participants talk about the atmosphere of creativity and freedom happening there. I especially loved seeing footage of Janis at the earliest point of her too-short career. Looking forward to next week.

We saw 4 shows last weekend and there were understudies on in 3 of them. I don't know it was due to covid, but still... One lead out (in Shucked) and the other shows had supporting actors out, but I don't think I missed anything since the understudies were great. Shucked - more fun than it had any right to be. I really enjoyed all of it. The music was fun and there were lots of laughs. Some Like It Hot - a brassy, sassy musical humdinger! I like how they expanded the Daphne/Osgood story line. I didn't really like the Sugar character re-write, so I was less invested in that story line. And while there's no way they could end it as perfectly as the movie ended, they did fine. It's not quite as fabulous as the movie, but it's really good. Sweeney Todd - got much better in Act 2. Not that it was bad in Act 1, but I thought Annaleigh was more... "appropriate?" ... as the show went on. Groban's voice is beautiful, but he's really not terrifying at all. Still, I thought it was a good production. Goodnight Oscar - Sean Hayes is fabulous, and his playing of Rhapsody in Blue at the end is entirely worth the price of admission! Which is a good thing since the play isn't very good, and neither is most of the cast.

Yes, and Saturday is George Costanza 'head night in Brooklyn. We're going home tomorrow afternoon. Ah well... Thanks for the thought!

It's a baseball game - it'll be fun!! Especially if the tickets are free! We're in NY for a few days and I may even go to the Mets game Monday...if I can't find anything else to do 😉 ETA: Okay, I just went and looked at tickets...and they're reeeeeally expensive. So maybe we'll just go have a nice dinner somewhere.

He is not, although I was confused when the team first hired him.

@Prevailing Wind, I asked in the Site Business forum and yes, this topic will no longer be in My TV Shows. There was some suggestion of how to follow it now, but I haven't been able to figure that out. However, since I also follow another topic here in Other TV Talk, it will be easy enough for me to check in.
-
Me. I was just coming here to see if I was all alone. I'll ask the question in the Site Business forum unless you or someone else already has.

Speaking facts that were prepared for him by the PR folks and put up on the TV screen by the tech people in the truck. I think most of the broadcast crew is kinda shitty, but he's the best pbp guy we have. I'm so pissed off about this. Almost as pissed off as I was about Jon Miller (I adtually wrote a letter about that and mailed it to the team!). It's just so stupid and a totally unforced error. Sell the team already.

Health and Wellness Chit-Chat: Your Primary Care Topic
ebk57 replied to JTMacc99's topic in Health & Wellness
I got the shingles vaccine as soon as I was eligible, about 5 years ago. Then, 2 years later, they released a new one. My doc made me wait another year or so to get it - which I did also as soon as I was eligible. I'm a huge fan of vaccines (although not of shots, but what can you do). I think I've had 11 (covid, flu, shingles and pneumonia) in the last 3 years. So far, they're working. -
Most of their catalogue is better than Stairway to Heaven.

Don't despair. It's still early...

Huh... maybe I should have gone tonight.

The name of the minor league hockey team around here affiliated with the Caps for a while. Named after the boat. I honestly missed most of the conversation (because I tend to tune out Smoltz whenever possible) so I'm not sure how they got to the point where he said he didn't know what a skipjack was and why the team would be named that. That part of the convo caught my ear. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skipjack_(boat)
-
Definitely should have gone to bed early for this one... Did Smoltz actually not know what a skipjack is? Bless his heart.
-
Well, that was worth staying up for.
-
And...I just got an alert that the game is about to start. So no doubleheaders.

As long as it's not Sunday. Bad enough that they moved the game to Sunday night. I'd rather not have to deal with traffic leaving the first game. I'd actually rather not go at all, but the person I gave the tickets to at the start of the season can't do night games because of kids. Sigh.

The power went out and came back about 4 times. My phone is charged in case the cable goes out. I think the rain is stopping, but I still hear thunder...somewhere. We'll see how this plays out.

It might look this cool outside my house, but I'm afraid to open the door. You may have to wait a bit for the Judge return.

Milestone Moments: All The Celebrity Vitals

She was so fabulous in the show. RIP -
Not that this answers your question, but Jen Psaki announced at the end of her show today that she's in this week for Chris Hayes. I looked at the website and the Twitter feed and I think the network doesn't really want you to know when the hosts won't be there so you'll tune in. I guess they don't want to think that anyone will tune in specifically to see a guest host.
