They did that for me as a birthday present, and I really appreciate it! 😄
  2. RIP Peter Marshall While I loved the Hollywood Squares (didn't everyone?), I had the good fortune to meet him when I worked at the theatre and he starred in the national tour of La Cage Aux Folles. He was a lovely person.

Why does the commissioner hate baseball???????
  4. The Closer Looks have been fire this week. I think Seth is doing the best stuff on late night TV now, and has been for quite a while.
  5. All about Flo Gift link to the NYT article from November.
  6. I've never colored my hair (it didn't really start getting gray until my 50s and now is gray near the ends, but not so much at the top). I haven't cut my hair since 1979. I wore makeup for a few years in my 20s, and then in my 30s-40s only when going to an event. But I stopped doing even that 20 years ago. The only reason I get pedicures is that my toenails aren't quite presentable and I like wearing sandals. It's all I can do to shower, iron my clothes and brush my hair before I leave the house - which I try not to do too often these days.
  7. At the risk of sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong, I read @Quof's Taylor Swift comment as referencing the acceptance of the grammar issue being discussed before. It doesn't sound right to them, as Taylor Swift's music doesn't sound right, but everyone else accepts it. At least that was my interpretation of it.
  8. I love pedicures, mostly because I love wearing sandals in the summer and wouldn't be able to without pedicures! I may have an infrequent manicure (I'll probably have one for my birthday and right before vacation), but those don't last long because, as was mentioned, I do use my hands, so I don't have them regularly. My favorite spa closed during the pandemic, but I've managed to find a couple near my house that are good (not as good as Red Door, but we do what we have to).
  9. If you don't need the money and you're that unhappy, maybe you'd consider resigning with a proper 2-week notice and be done with it. No need to put up with that aggravation if you don't have to.

And let's not forget the Os opening the 1988 season going 0 - 21. I try to forget, but I can't.
  11. I saw this and was initially excited - then remembered that I hate Godot... We'll see. I am really excited about Denzel and Jake Gyllenhaal in Othello!
  12. I am very old, but have never heard this phrase before. I love it. Thanks for posting!
  13. The Vancouver hockey team is the Canucks. I hope that's not an insult...
  14. It also could be that your cable provider (or streaming provider, or whatever you're using) is delayed. We have Comcast and if I'm in the bedroom with baseball on the radio, then go out to the living room where it's on the TV, I already know what happened because the TV is so far behind real life. Also applies for phone alerts at the end of the game.
  15. My mom was like this about Halloween candy, which is why our hauls lasted almost until the following Halloween. It worked out.
  16. My Twinkies story - my bro went to the Peace Corp in Kenya way back in the day. We sent him care packages. Once we stupidly sent it surface mail instead of air mail. That particular package had homemade treats and some store-bought treats. It took many, many weeks to get there and the only thing still edible was the Twinkies. Because they are made of things not found in nature.
  17. From USA Today via Yahoo I found this interesting in that it agrees with you (and everyone) about how bad the commentary was, but disagrees about being there in-person versus watching on TV. This person says it was fabulous being there and not so great on TV.
  18. I just saw that Colin Jost is the correspondent in Tahiti for the surfing. Which I find really weird, but really funny. At least this just concluded segment was really funny.

I do see more parents using noise cancelling earmuffs on infants, and I applaud that since it's really loud in the ballpark. We sit in the shade (always!) but I do hope they're using sunscreen. There's a play area at Camden Yards, but as you say @Notabug, tickets aren't cheap and around here, there are at least 3 minor league teams. I like to think I'd start kids there, but what do I know? I discovered my fandom watching games on TV and listening on the radio. We didn't go to games until I was at least 10. Did I already say get off my lawn? 😄

Unfortunately not weird, but IMO, not really smart. But I don't have kids either and I really don't understand bringing those that are that small anywhere. Every Sunday at the ballpark, I see parents with kids who are carrying around ginormous bags filled with infant supplies and/or who knows what so the older kids will be amused because they certainly aren't amused by the game. I guess I don't get why they don't start out with minor league games - they're cheaper, closer to the field (so the kids can feel like they're almost part of it) and have playgrounds and stuff to keep them occupied if the game isn't doing that. The infant thing I truly don't get. And...get off my lawn!!
  21. Not if we're lucky.
  22. There ya go - Amelie Mauresmo! She's French.
  23. 😄 That's very kind of you... because why would they have basic advance info for something that's been in the works for years. 😉
  24. Since I'm not really listening (how unusual...) and don't know if they said this on the TV, the NYT says that's Joan of Arc on the horse. So far, the best part of the whole thing.
  25. I'm the same age as you are. I grew up right outside of DC in a wonderful, close family. And I am definitely of that generation and totally understand and identify with the concept.
