The Annual Grammy Awards - General Discussion
ebk57 replied to chitowngirl's topic in The Grammy Awards
Okay, I'll give the no-pants thing to James. Pretty good bit on the fly... so to speak... Mr ebk just marveled that Ed Sheeran flew from NY today to do this. Long day. -

They're more than his backup singers. They're Daft Punk. And they're pretty good at what they do.- 2.3k replies

Don't leave yet @Mumbles. The NYT said he's only be on for about 20 minutes during the whole show! And, like @mojoween, I'm mostly here for the concert. It amuses me that most of my music "knowledge" comes from SNL. And, in the old days, David Letterman. -

I just read that he never won a music award during his career. Just a video award and a lifetime achievement award. So now, posthumously, he won three. Did LL do something to piss off CBS? -

I love Adele's dress! So much better than the one she wore on the red carpet. And...she's amazing. -

MSNBC: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Vaulted)

Not that I subscribe to "staying out of that 'hood"... but the Sox stadium is right on the train line. So you just walk across the street, with a lot of other people. Then walk back after the game with a lot of other people. You'll be fine. The worst part is the actual stadium. It's so bland. -
The open was perfect. I loved the Black History chocolates. Kate McKinnon can do no wrong - none. The KellyAnne/Jake Tapper sketch was brilliant and her Elizabeth Warren was wonderful. Oh, and Jeff Session. She's perfect. I also liked Leslie wants to do Trump (ew...). I'm also glad she's still with Kyle. The rest of the show was okay. And Ed Sheeran is wonderful. Overall, I loved this show.

Seriously, this show can go nowhere but down after that open. Hilarious.

Stephen was the last minute guest replacement this weekend on Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me. It was pretty funny.
-
I believe his real name is Aaron Bleepin' Boone... So this was the year I absolutely knew that fans voting for the All Star Team was wrong. My sister voted for Bucky because he... had a cute butt. Oy...............

I'd definitely go with B

I was having this exact conversation with someone I met today from a band website. We were saying it was so much easier in our misspent youths to see every band that came to town. And me, being the theatre geek, said it was also easy to see every show I wanted in NY and here in DC. But now... I don't know how the kids do it. I feel for them. And I'm grateful that I have disposable income now to see the stuff I want to see.

I'm not a Saux fan, but I am a fan of another AL East team. And the answer is YES Especially the way is went through NY...

Real Time with Bill Maher in the Media

I'm grateful that the hotel we are staying in this week doesn't have HBO. -
I heard about this and meant to post it here. The Variety article doesn't say what channel the show will be on - it's channel 94, Comedy Greats. Love this from Craig: It's like Game of Thrones in your car without pictures. http://investor.siriusxm.com/investor-overview/press-releases/press-release-details/2017/Comedian-Craig-Ferguson-Launches-Daily-Show-Exclusively-on-SiriusXM/default.aspx Damn, I miss him. This is something to listen to on my way home from work. Yay!!

Just got home after seeing Bettye LaVette. She's a force of nature - a fabulous evening. I encourage you to catch her if she comes through your town.

Late Show With David Letterman - General Discussion

Listening to Deep Tracks on XM radio tonight, I was informed that today would be Warren Zevon's 70th birthday. Which just made me miss Dave even more. And miss Warren... -
It did at one point. I don't think it's the black mark it once was though. Equity has lost (or given away, depending on your point of view) a lot of power over the years, so doing non-equity tours probably doesn't keep you from getting your card.
-
That is because the Rent tour is non-equity. So I doubt any of the actors would be known. The show is coming through town here in the spring, so I can't say if the cast is any good. I do know the director though. He's a great guy. But I still can't say if the cast is any good...
-
That was the beauty of the original. It took on media cynicism way back in the mid 70s. So there didn't have to be too much lyric change IMO.
-
Che did the story during WU. And Kate as Olyah was wearing a pussy hat while standing outside the window.
-
Kate doing Roxie Hart was the highlight of the show for me. I liked the cold open. The monologue was good in spots. WU was good in spots. I always love Leslie. Loved Che telling Colin he kept his cousin from robbing him. And yeah, I teared up at the end during To Sir With Love. The mug was wonderful. Otherwise, not much worked for me. I'm a little disappointed.
