Well, that was...pretty pointless. Although I did like the Cubs organist playing "Tomorrow" at midnight.

Chris Tillman made his first start of the season today. He walked 2 in the first. It took him about a million pitches to get out of the second. I was sure I'd be at the ballpark until tomorrow. Fortunately, we scored some runs. And the game actual sped up as it went on - exactly the opposite of normal. We even made it on time for our dinner reservation!
  4. I agree with your "okay" rating. I went with "decent". I think that every skit Chris Pine was in was musical. Which is fine. He can sing and dance, so why not. Loved the "Morning Joe" open. Kate is brilliant (that can't be said enough times!). I thought I heard that Joe and Mika didn't want SNL to do them... maybe there was no good reason to before now. But now - go for it!!
  5. Dave will be on with Alec Baldwin hosting The Essentials on TCM starting tomorrow. https://www.tvinsider.com/184670/david-letterman-alec-baldwin-the-essentials-tcm/ An interesting 4 films (I've seen 3 of them). Looking forward to this. ETA after the movie: 2 great Dave quotes about Walter Pidgeon - "his hair should be a National Park" and "He won the Academy Award for Best Posture." He and Alec were fun.
  6. I'm supplementing my fruit salad with cheese and crackers (smoked gouda and pepper jack). I was going to warm up the leftover pasta, but lost interest. Besides, Mr ebk will be working nights/weekends for another week, so the pasta will still be there. As will more cheese and crackers. And fermented fruit salad.
  7. That's an interesting article. I've used Noxema to wash my face daily since the stone age, and honestly haven't noticed any difference recently (because really, I'm not very perceptive). It was hard to find in the store for a short while, but it seems to be back now. I feel like I should go stock up...just in case. And check the ingredients...

All I can say is whew.... that was a tough weekend. I thought our bullpen was supposed to be good. Surprise!
  10. Ha! It was David Rubenstein, the chairman of the KC. And then I read that he's the founder of the Carlyle Group and I had to stop reading. Rita is fabulous. Mr. Rubenstein needs to brush up on his interviewing skillzzzzz
  11. That National Car Rental commercial with Patrick WhatHisName doing the self appendectomy? I have to turn the channel every time it's on (and it seems to be on between every half inning of this ballgame) because the noises gross me out. Not to mention the thought of an actual self appendectomy. Yuck. And Shake Shack makes very tasty concretes!
  12. Tonight, I'm going to see a new program at the Kennedy Center called Profiles in Creativity. Some guy is interviewing Rita Moreno. I'm looking forward to it. My sister is going to see Alan Cumming in another theatre at the KC, but since I saw that concert on PBS... and hey, it's Rita Moreno!

  15. Holy crap - Dave is at the Caps game tonight! Here in our Nation's Capital!! If only I'd known...I still wouldn't have gone... :-) http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/04/david-letterman-and-his-playoff-beard-make-a-rare-appearance-at-nhl-playoff-game
  16. This is so beautifully written! My vote would go to...both. Because Fried is one of the four essential food groups - Fried, Salt, Chocolate and Wine.

I think the Os - Rays are regional coverage on MLBN. I'm sure you'll enjoy that! (It's either us or the Cubs/Pirates - but hey, at least it's baseball!)
  18. I'm seeing it at the end of August. I'll report back...but you all know me. I'll report back sometime in October :-)
  19. Happy 100th Birthday Ella!!!
  20. I freely admit I didn't read this carefully all the way through, but when it showed up in my inbox, I immediately thought of this tread. https://www.tastingtable.com/cook/national/trader-joes-budget-meals?utm_medium=email&utm_source=TT&utm_campaign=Weekend&utm_content=Editorial
  21. There was a short piece on All Things Considered today: http://www.npr.org/2017/04/24/525406271/two-stars-share-the-stage-and-the-roles-in-little-foxes I saw it was extended, but it will still close before I'm up there at the end of August. Ah well...

I was there (it's going to be that season where the Os lose every Sunday game. Sigh...). All I kept yelling during the whole thing was "I have dinner reservations!" Because I did. Thank goodness, because if dinner hadn't been fabulous, the day would have been a total loss.
  23. Peeps with pencils and scissors stuck through them, then covered with stage blood and put in the window of my office at the theatre to scare the kids is the best use of Peeps ever! I really must see if I can find that picture...
  24. I'm planning on seeing Rhiannon Giddens in a couple of weeks by myself since Mr. ebk is working and I don't think any of my friends are interested (although I haven't asked yet...) If you really want to go, go!
  25. Okay...I know if you quote yourself you could go blind... So remember when I wasn't going to buy a subscription? Well, I did. I'm not sure what came over me.
