  1. I did watch. And for me I've had a POV shift. Now that I'm not expecting, or even HOPING that ANYthing will make sense about this show.....now that I'm watching JUST to snark and rip it to shreds, it's soooo much easier on my blood pressure. I don't care anymore. It's amazing how much LESS stressful the viewing is when you don't care. Thank goodness for the paradigm shift. No more yelling at the TV. Just pity. -- Veronica and campaign manager Maggie. Maggie is a wuss. As much animosity as I'd have had toward her if I were Maggie. I'd have been ready for the bitch. Bring it on, Vur- rah-nih-kuh. Since she likes throwing her weight around so much and bulling hotel workers. That fight was WEAK. -- Jim in the dungeon. 1) He wouldn't even BE in the dungeon if his house had some frigging SECURITY! His "let me go right now. I'm telling you for the last time" scene went on waay to long. Because he said it's the last time.....something like FIVE times. OMG the scene pacing and dialog continues to be weak on this show. He bravado about not signing any thing was so weak. When the 'deep voiced' hooker types came in I was like, "oh shit" she's not going to have him beat up! -- The Hannah friend who-made-take-home-plates-of-food chat. If they go to church and are such friends, wouldn't she already know the story about the grandbaby and Quincy? IF Hannah lives in a nice neighborhood and a nice house....then....I dont' want to THINK about what the "old neighborhood" was. -- NOT looking forward to the make-out scene between Hannah and the dead, little girl's grand dad. I think they've already teased that Benny comes in and starts to beat the guy up.
  2. So proud of myself. I didn't watch. Some of what I just read about the episode, though is exactly why. Thanks for the recap This way I can snark on the show -- and be spared the pain of watching. You're a stronger person than I am. -- I can't believe this house as NO security. "Federal" judge and people judge drive right up. OK -- That the hotel person just opens the door no checking that it's her room. OK -- Veronica's threat to Quincy. Please... -- Jim's kidnapping....No words. (To be fair, I did watch a repeat episode of one I missed last season that was aired las night. The one where Celine's son confronts Jim...because you know, she's the maid but she didn't open the door, and someone shows up at the door of a federal judge, SAYS he's from the campaign and Wyatt just let's him him and roam the house.....Oh yeah and Amanda's doctor ASSURED Jim and Kathryn Amanda was OK after some TOTALLY bogus session on the patio: "Is she OK",...."Yes, She's OK. ....."Is she really OK." ........: Yes she's really OK." ........"Are You sure she's OK." ..........."Yes she's find. She did seem anxious so I'll prescribe some sleeping medication". Oh good heavens....
  3. Finding out how absolutely fake many design, real estate, remodel and makeover shows are has totally turned my off from most of them. And I used to be ADDICTED to HGTV.
  4. 1) LIOLI is taped in Canada, it's a Canadian show. Hillary and David in Toronto. The second version tapes in Vancouver. 2) I've read that the producers tape TWO VERSIONS of the decision and pick the one they want to air. I've never seen this confirmed. And I doubt it ever would be. Supposedly the two answers were taped to keep the hillary david win/loses even. If wiki is correct, clearly 75 to 55 is NOT even...but to me, that still doesn't mean TWO endings aren't taped. I know a bit about TV production, AND know a couple that was on another show. So I have an idea about how fake a show can be....it can be VERY fake. Sometimes they make up or tweak stuff that doesn't even need to be faked, but they think it will lend more drama to the story. It's super manipulated. Personally I HATE that certain scenes or developments on "reality" TV shows are faked. Because is IT PRESENTED as what actually happenrd. The situations are presented as real. IF it's a scripted show the people are characters and clearly viewers are not deceived about that. But it's not so in 'reality TV.' -- I've heard that on one shoe where change the DESIGN of the house to SELL it, that sometimes the afters weren't really finished on time so they'd just glue tiles in place or cover something up to film the reveal. And a separate work crew would come back to finish things up correctly, if need be. -- On a show about improving the APEEAL of you show from the CURB I heard that the designers were AWOL and not communicative throughout the process sometimes and homeowners had to make calls to get discounts on the windows or roof they wanted. That the homeowner told the designers what they wanted and the designers sort of just came in for the taping. -- One person who was on House Hunters International posted online about it saying the voiceover lied about several aspects of this episode. I THINK it was Singapore. If I recall correctly, they said on the show he'd just moved for his job. He'd actually lived there for a few years. They said the person looking with him was a girlfriend -- she wasn't. They said his realtor was a realtor -- he was actually the buyers friend who was visiting PRETENDING TO BE his realtor. So this so called realtor -- wasn't from Singapore, wasn't his realtor, wasn't even a realtor at all. Why would the show even lie about stuff like like? What's the point. Just say the guy had been living there and finally decided to buy. Is it really that key that you say his job just transferred him and he wanted to buy? Either way he'd still buy so why lie about it? So now I'm thinking all the HH Int'l shows are faked. I bet the people buying have been already living in the country, and none of these are people who are "JUST" moving for jobs or retirement. None of the realtors are real. None of the friends are who they're presented to be, etc. I just listed these as examples as to why the fakeness Love It or List It is totally believable and ruins part of the show for me.
  5. The DogWoks guy was a hoot, but the BEST line :):):) was to the Marse man child...when Marcus said: "You better go call your mamma and get my money back." Now THAT cracked me up.:):) I'm STILL laughing at that one. OMG that was funny...... That's the truth. But with Popcorn Lady, he only has one - uh - person -- to deal with. The the Trailer couple he has two., and not matter how well they get a long, the history there could "pop" back up at any time. I dont' know that I'd risk it.
  6. Just watched a Sunday marathon of "Love it or List It." Love Hilary and David! -- HATE the premise. And the fact that I just can't believe the budget details as presented. NO one puts 30K....50K....75K.....or 90K...into a house when they're going to sell it the next month. MAYBE -- IF you're thinking about selling in 5 YEARS or more...so you get some use out of those great updates and the remodeling. But no one does that kind of remodeling to sell in a month. They just don't....because you're not going to get your money back. You LOSE money on the reno, and who does that before a sale. So that part of the show is just crazy. I've heard two endings are taped, and couples go on the show with no intention of moving, but just to get the work done at discount. THAT -- I believe. So why the fakery of the "do they stay or go?" I know because that's what makes it different premise from all the many other remodeling shows. I just hate it when I'm lied to, and fake stuff is presented as truth. That's all. They've GOT to be inflating the budgets. Also I've never seen a house YET, where David says the value of the house has gone up LESS than the reno cost, so people have actually LOST money. In real life, you can count on ONE hand -- minus a couple of fingers -- where reno costs IMMEDIATELY INCREASE the sale price of the house over the cost of the reno itself. If you have a house that would sell for 150K -- and put in a 50K kitchen upgrade -- that house is NOT going to automatically sell for 50K more than it would have. No buyer is going to pay 50K more just because a seller JUST put in a new kitchen. ALL agents will tell you if you're selling -- do SMALL, INexpensive things. To just get the house you have ready for sale. NO major renos before sale, because you won't get your money back -- without time and RE appreciation. But this show expects us to believe people do major bathroom and kitchen renos -- and make money just like that. If you put a 50K addition on my house....it's NOT going to sell for 50K than it would have the week before. So you've LOST money. Who puts 50K into a house to sell it for only 25K more. Duh. I'd just like to see a reno show without the FAKE drama -- REAL remodeling is drama enough.
  7. I liked the episode....more than the Simple Greek episode and an HELL of a lot more than ASL Signs/Sharla Popcorn redux. I would have loved a conversation with the people where the deal fell apart: Marse, Dog Works, Skulduggery, etc. I should never wish ill for anyone...but of all those mentioned...it's the Skullduggery folks I hate the most... for me because I guess it's the most inexplicable, The Dog Works guy and Marse son guy have issues that's just clear so I right them off. But the Skullduggery deal -- the brothers and dad....it was amazing how that turned out...I still marvel at it. I was blown away by his 'integration' of his own companies......what do you know ....Athans Motors turned AutoMatch....gets 85 percent of its cars from.....(drum roll please)......1-800- Car Cash. And Shulers biscuits are in Crumbs....and didn't we see that there are now Crumbs Ice Cream flavors made by Mr. Green Tea? You go, Marcus.
  8. I agree the deck is a plus....no doubt. But I think there could be some ligisticall issues with usage as well. That's all.
  9. Yes. But no more so...and anyone else he's dealt with...from what we've been shown anyway. Was Mike more frustrating than BIL Ewell from Shuler's...or the Father/Son team at Skullduggery.....and Marcus wasn't that short with them. I don't think he LIKED ANY of them -- not even the wife and kids really...none one them. And it's only human nature than when you don't LIKE someone or you don't feel SOME kind of connection -- you'll tend to be less patient and be more frustrated, especially if they make you work more. I think that's it....The situation with the COMPANY wasn't what he thought it was....and so he was slightly pissed that he had to do more lifting than he expected. I agree that he wanted the BUSINESS -- but not the people....BUT he was sort of stuck with them, and got pissed he had to basically start ALL of them from the ground up accept for the location leases. But he still figured that was better than not doing the deal and finding some other one to replace this one.
  10. I know each deal/business is different...but that said that is NOT how Marcus reacted and responded -- which seemed to be a shorter fuse -- when he dealt with practically any other businesses on the series going back to the first season. He's been incredulous, surprised or initially shocked about how all of them have done some aspects of the businesses..... he's been insistent that once he puts money in HE'S in charge -- and yes, he has even blown up at a few. BUT, never went from zero to 10 so quickly. He blew up over people saying say were offended. That's usually NOT the response -- a professional with Marcus' tact would come back with -- when people say that. He was more frigging patient with: -- the LA Dog Works guy -- who clearly had some temperament issues. -- the husband in the Michael Sena gym episode -- the woman who started the Eco-Me cleaning products He was even more patient with the ex-couple who ran the trailer company in Florida! Something about his attitude was different in this episode.
  11. Nevermind. ETA: So much was unsaid.....Marcus' turn-around necessitated a WHOLE LOT more explanation to the audience. I say a lot more, but that would mean we got SOME explanation when we really didn't get ANY....so indeed SOME explanation was needed -- with details given what we saw last time around. Again, NO mention of the boyfriend...who was sort of like a fiance, right? First, we have Marcus' attitude in the ASL episode which was cut short, for an inexplicable update on Sharla. Then, Marcus' attitude in the Greek Gyro episode, another one with SEVERAL relevant things NOT explained. These two eps back to back have thrown me a bit....and not for the good when it comes to my views of the show.
  12. I'm a sucker for minutiae and details...... I still don't know for myself whether Marcus is the one who came up with the name. Technically, I don't he ever said explicitly that HE came up with the name. He talked about branding experts, defended the name, and then said the he is a branding expert. But he never said HE came up with it. After he said that, I thought he might have come up with it..... then asked his team what they thought and they signed off on it as, "simple, easy, clear...yeah that's good" sort of thing. Also, I have to admit I did think immediately to the Mr. Green Tea example. IF he's such a branding expert why didn't he come up with both the choices he gave that family to chose for their new product. He clearly had and outside team or his team come up with it first, THEN he looked at it, liked both and presented them to the Green Tea folks. And it was clear he likely would have been OK with either one they chose. Maybe because he was raised Greek, or because he came up with the name himself -- but he was clearly personally invested in the "Simple Greek" name. He was too defensive about it. What I could have envisioned was his team coming up with "Simple Greek" -- but because of the families offense taken -- come up with something else that's just as clear, just as simple, and conveys the same thing....just not 'the SIMPLE Greek." But he wasn't open to that at all. Also it's not so much that he defended the name it's HOW he did it. with his "I'll take my money and go" routine. It didn't seem necessary for him to go there. He just jumped right to personal defense mode. I found HIS reaction offensive. I though, 'whoa, Marcus." I'm with you and love you and everything, but you didn't have to go there...and besides...there are brand CONCEPT people, and then there are brand BUILDING/EXPANSION people. Brand MARKETING is VERY broad.....just because you'r good at the ADVERTISING side of it -- coming up with the name, promotions, creating graphics, etc...does NOT mean you're good at the BUSINESS side of BUILDING and EXPANDED, and being CEO of a brand. Most CEO's likely HIRE the brand advertising/marketing folks, MARCUS. Lemonis MAY indeed be good at both. BUT...I din't think HE came up with any OTHER new brand that we've seen on the show. Did HE come up with the new name for "ECO ME" naturally cleaning products company from the first season, or the protein bites of the workout gym wife? Hasn't it been understood that he has a team that does that? That's why his defense of Simply Greek was off. I think in this case HE thought he was the expert in all things Greek including the name.
  13. Shuler's is in South Carolina. I hope they get LOTS of umbrellas. S.C has plenty of pleasant afternoons, but can also have hot sun that can stroke you out, and fierce storm winds that can blow anything on that deck right into the water or back into the restaurant. Sure they can anchor the seating, but it should also be moveable. So the deck seating layout can be versatile for what ever event is there....and IF you do that you have to be careful HOW it's anchored....so people don't twist and ankle on an outlet or hole that was left uncovered from moving the umbrellas and chairs around. To me the big plus of the deck is it could be set up for any need ....regular seating or special events.
  14. Wow. Would he do that? I won't care if he does. BUT -- since they' were the founders, and their kids were going to take it over....it COULD be spun by critics as 'the big city slicker taking their business away from them." Sure -- by the time he does that the business will be worth more, but at least before him came it was THEIRS to manage or lose. I wonder if Marcus didn't set up HIS OWN company to own his 55% -- or own the equipment -- or some set up to proect himself form the couple's incompetence. At least with Marcus, I feel the franchisees should do better. For the life of me I never have understood why people who are in, at or close to retirement -- as couple of the franchisees seemed to be -- would open a frigging restaurant, or ANY business that's dependent on OTHERS to be successful. It's one thing to retire from being an accountant for a corporation at want to to that part-time on your own, working when you want to or getting clients if you want to. It's totally different to start a franchise operation. WHO THE HELL, looked at the main corporate restaurant that was featured -- and said -- "I know." I think I'll buy a franchise from these people!" It reminded me of all the people on Food Network's "Restaurant Impossible" who said. they used their retirement money, or they used their PARENT'S retirement to open the restaurant. WTH?! I was too. (like he did with the Mr. Green Tea folks when they launched their gelato line). I have to believe that 'SimpLY Greek" was taken already. It's so obvious that, that has to be the reason it wasnt' used. I know the choice OF the name, and having options to choose from, are two different things. But certainly a choice would have been nice to see. I was shocked by the way that was handled. You think Marcus is getting tired of dealing with these people. Getting there and it's not what he expected? Or God forbid he had a personal issue he was dealing with of air. Of course I have know idea if the shows are AIRED in the order they were taped. But these last two, he seemed to have no patience for the owners. The question about the mom's car accident seemed forced, his care/concern seemed routine. I contrast the question about the mom's accident.....versus how he asked about and reacted to the 'courage b' son and his issues with his dad's the death and the responsibility he's shouldered, or even the 'attitudes' of owners from the previous seasons like "Athans Motors" or the Michael Sena gym episode. Something just seems different. A new producer maybe? Could be anything ...or nothing. This was just the second straight episode that did nothing for me. Did they save them for last because they were the weakest. I definitely am looking forward to the season finale "update episode." Can't wait.
  15. I know. This was the first time the question about the family involved felt forced. It's like they knew what to say. And of course they did. Because I'm willing to bet producers told the kids, when Marcus asks about your family tell him about the car accident. Other than that it just wouldn't have come up like it did. There's no way I think that was spontaneous. I don't mind Marcus asking about "the people" and how they get along. That's important for him (and us) to know. But his conversation with the adult kids -- AND her outside was too much. Maybe that's it. Those scenes (which I think were back to back) took viewers away (too far away) from the business side of the show. Hey, if Marcus wants to turns around failing businesses and make money I guess this business qualified for his help. But 1) these folks showed me nothing in terms of their management, 2) they weren't that likable and 3) the son with the crooked eye bothered the HELL out of me. (sorry) This group is clearly going to need day-to-day oversight from a Marcus corporate manager more than others. This is the first deal he's done that I have seen (I didn't see salon/spa and pop weasel) where I felt the business owners couldn't take the ball and run with it after he left. We'll see..... Changed menu or not, I wouldn't eat there even now. Once i see your food starts out frozen, I'm done. It may be so, but don't go on TV showing me that! I mean it wasn' Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, but once I lose faith in the food I'm out. And as was said, we didn't SEE the menu revamped. FROZEN dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) and spanakopita -- I can get at Trader Joes!
  16. I totally agree with both of you. My question is if Marcus weren't raised Greek and this were not a Greek restaurant would he have done the deal? Given that he changed everything about the business. And I'm not even sure those are the questions I really care about. I just found myself asking "why" at every turn. Underwhelming -- about the people, the premise, all of it -- is an understatement.
  17. This is quacking like a duck. We're all having the same feeling about this episode.
  18. This is the first episode of the Profit where I really felt cheated. I agree the ASL part was rushed, just to get to Popcorn Lady -- and who the hell cares about her after that craziness of the the previous encounter. I can't believe Marcus invested with her. Advise her, help her, guide her -- but invest MONEY in her and to business WITH her...uh, HELL no! Did she really show you that she was that 'changed and enlightened about how to conduct an honest business? Really, Marcus. Come on. This is also the first episode, I intentionally did not watch again as a repeat. So CNBC lost my viewership last night. I don't want to see that episode because I don't agree with how it was done. I've watched every other episode at least twice. Most three times or more. That's how much I really like the show -- and Marcus. But this episode...no.
  19. 1) I have questions about the OTHER business owner who was a customer of ASL who contacted Marcus about a supposed lawsuit and ASL's supposed reputation in the area...I think HIS motivated was to screw Anthony, because Anthony has sued him to get paid. SO I don't know that I would have put him on air without vetted him A LOT first. Marcus said you don't sue customers. So you mean he'd never sue a business (client or supplier) that owed him money? Sure you pick your battles, and ry to work it out. But sometimes you sue to get paid. 2) IF ASL's rep was so bad, how were they still doing so much business? 3) I think Anthony also mis-read Marcus, and thought Marcus might see his attitude as part of his work. work work ethic. I DO think Anthony works HARD. They said on the show he does the installs scouts sites etc. With three sales people, how much PRE-sale interaction did Anthony USUALLY have with customers? Would he even have been on an appointment like the Pirateland meeting. Maybe so because it was a bug job, but it was MARCUS who asked him if he agreed with the other guy saying it could be done in a week, HE didn't jump in. Marcus PROMPTED that contradictory answer. 4) True. Anthony was no where NEAR the worse owner attitude wise. But it's also amazing that he couldn't clean up or tone down his shit for taping on a frigging business show.
  20. Of the two of them HE seem better in terms of management. Sorry to say, I wasn't impressed with her at all. She didn't seem to know much about her own operation. And if you're one of only two principles -- even if they handle different parts of the business. I would have known my stuff for Marcus and TV. Talk to the Planet Popcorn lady about not coming off well on TV when you're trying to grow a business.
  21. It sounded to me like he'd retired from or left his gov job but not to help them. It sounded like he wasn't really doing anything else, and so he turned his attention to helping the in-laws. IF he went back to gov or was hired by ANYbody to do PR, I hope it's as a worker bee. Because he shows me NOTHING in terms of being a manager. He was WEAK.
  22. ASL Signs -- still processing how that went down. Marcus clearly didn't like the guy's attitude.. But I'm still wrapping my head around it all. And I know ASL are his initials, but knowing (which he probably DIDN'T) that ASL also stands for American Sign Language, and the many people might associate it with that.....that alone would at least have me thinking about not just using the initials ASL Signs. But perhaps that's just me. Now....POPCORN LADY -- I guess I'm still figuring that out too. The packaging looked weak. IF I order her popcorn online, how quickly does it get popped and immediately shipped to me. It looked like the product sat around in bags. Marcus even said, you can get popcorn anywhere, why would I buy her? And did Marcus or her say ANYthing about the boyfriend. You canNOT do an update and not at least say whether he's still in the picture. Also, I guess Marcus and the show wanted to focus on the deal, but as a viewer I think they should have asked, "you lost the Disney contracts....what the heck did you THINK would happen once they saw how you were doing business?" I still don't think she's wrapped too tight. MAYbe her business going down the drain woke her up, but I'm still not impressed. I do NOT think her mind is a steal trap, let's put it that way. The 'sharks' on Shark Tank have nothing to worry about.
  23. Yeah. I hear ya. I don't know whether it was you or someone else (sorry)...but I also totally agree about the big exposed deck. I get that they did need more seating and tables inside and out. But so much outside seating that would be weather "vulnerable' -- with not additional INSIDE seating. was crazy. Forget that it rains do you know how frigging HOT it gets in the SC sun? I KNOW they MUST be thinking about having pergolas or umbrellas overhead. (But they just become projectiles in severe storms.) I do think the voiceover said they were going to expand to add a store, but personally, I was never clear about how much INSIDE seating would be increased. And THAT is what I think they needed most.
  24. You didn't like this guy more than the Dog Works owner in L.A.?...THAT guy seemed to have some "issues." The Key Lime guy wasn't that "volatile." (How's that for a way to describe it?:))
