  1. I’m not sure about the scripted part but I had a feeling that once Laura and Jeff went out fishing someone else would come along and help themselves to what’s there. Were they that hungry that they couldn’t at least not make a mess before leaving? I guess they didn’t figure the spot was where other XL people were staying. Anyway, it’s interesting that twice now Laura and Jeff’s spot was the welcome wagon, I wonder if the other team will find them first when they get to that area or will they find one of the others first. Rylie could use some company now, right? I’m guessing that Laura and Jeff enjoyed that fish without sharing with the others, lol.
  2. @little hermit Regarding Manu’s brother I believe you are correct. About the episode you mentioned per the show’s Wikipedia page Russell and Manu were a team then there was the other couple, the guy was ok and the young woman sat around all day doing absolutely nothing for the entire time. Manu did not get along with her at all. So for this challenge I am curious to find out how he acts here with the other people. It would be nice to see him act better this time. Then Rylie and her disagreements with Manu - when they were all meeting Jeff and Laura, didn’t she even look at their shelter, how it did not have green bamboo? I guess not.
  3. @Lady Iris Regarding Russell, I think you may mean Charlie. EJ isn’t part of this challenge. Lacey had what happened to her coming due to her abhorrent behavior.
  4. It’s risky given they’ve already been there for 21 days and had a rough time getting to their spot on the beach but I guess they figure they’ll do alright alone - Jeff did fine with only him and EJ (and Shane for a short time) on the first XL challenge. Most of that bunch put together were no prizes either and I guess both Laura and Jeff want to avoid that behavior entirely. IRC he was the one with the most success catching the caymans.
  5. About Laura and Jeff and their wanting to stay a twosome, that should be interesting going forward as it looks like next week another team shows up and is told the same thing. At least they offered the girls’ group water before sending them away. I don’t know how Manu was able to focus either given her brother’s illness. I hope we see Manu again in the future. Yeah, Russell seems ok so far but he started out with no women around him. We haven’t seen much after they merged with the other group yet. Maybe since he doesn’t have that fish net he’ll be better this time. Jury is still out for me about him. Laura and Jeff have that (sort of) nice boat to go out fishing. I wonder if their wanting to stay separate from everyone else and having this boat will create some animosity amongst the others.
  6. I’m happy to see The Shield in your top 5, IMO I’d rate it higher - although when comparing to the other shows on your list I didn’t watch some of them and saw only a few episodes of others. The Shield for me was must watch TV, I also own the series on DVD. For FX to have this series serve as their entry to original programming on their network was a wise choice. On a side note, given the escalating cost of cable TV, I’m glad a cable network such as FX that started out with mostly reruns turned to producing some original programming. Other channels don’t always do that.
  7. I’m watching season 4 XL marathon today and couldn’t believe how Gary kept going on and on about that stinky meat ... then Matt shows up out of the blue with good meat that everyone chowed down on. I prefer any meat I eat to be free of flies buzzing around it myself. That Lacey is a real piece of work. I hope to never see her in this show again. Glad to see Shane made it further this time. He didn’t deserve what he got during the first XL challenge.
  8. I loved last night’s episode showing the humorous clips from the various episodes. I hope they do it again sometime - a couple of the clips had me laughing so hard I was in tears.
  9. I’m looking forward to XL next week! It looks like an interesting bunch and how they were grouped together as initial teams. I’m a bit surprised to see Manu again, given her illness at the end of her original challenge and long rehab. She appears to not give up easy so here’s hoping she’ll fare better this time. I’m also looking forward to seeing how well Jeff and Laura do after doing a separate 20 day challenge first. There’s a bunch of 10 minute episodes on Discovery go about that challenge, I wish those episodes were longer.
  10. I’ve noticed this as well, I think I’ve seen multiple appearances of Robbie’s striped shirt. I wonder if the multiple appearances were due to shooting scenes for different episode on a particular day paired with Fred MacMurray’s availability at the time if he was in some of the scenes.
  11. She stalked Robbie, saw he got married then targeted Chip instead, LOL. Another example of the people behind the show not keeping track I guess or they did not figure we fans would be talking about the show as we do many years later 😊. Plus the black and white episodes were not shown again until the late 80s. Tomorrow’s MeTV episode includes a pre-Katie Tina Cole (I think her 3rd and last appearance before the California episodes) playing another girlfriend of Robbie’s. They were always paired together.
  12. He was a dual major? Or He has 2 degrees? Or The show did not keep track of stuff like this well?
  13. I’d vote for #1 if they couldn’t find anyone to satisfy #2. Since the show was already on a while already I guess they couldn’t do anything new or fresh to keep people interested except marry Steve off. Since Ernie was older they lost the little kid stories for the show so we get Dodie whose story lines were pretty dull IMO.
  14. I saw the episode “Marriage and Stuff” on MeTV yesterday and found the mention of Mike and Sally odd but it was just a convenient plot device. Really, would Steve just run off and abandon his sons like that? I thought the episode was silly and like a tame version of a Three’s Company episode. I guess not enough time would have passed for Mike and Sally to have decided to move from “back East” to Arizona? However, it seems like more often than not TV shows then didn’t really pay attention to continuity because the alternatives the writers came up with in their minds were better story wise. Plus I’m sure they thought no one would pay attention to details like this. I agree they should have shown the wedding between Mike and Sally, especially since they had a lengthy engagement. It would have been nice to have the characters appear every so often but I’m aware of what was going on the behind the scenes that would have not made that possible. Oh well. Something else I’ve been wondering is according to what I’ve read (either IMDB or Wikipedia, I don’t remember) that when the show was in development they wanted to call it “The Fred MacMurray Show” but he objected - if they did I wonder if they would have added Ernie after Mike left.
  15. I enjoyed last night's episode with the couple (sorry I don’t remember their names) - she didn’t want to be there in the first place but he talked her into it. I’m glad things worked out the way it did and there was not too much drama or carelessness on either of their parts, i.e. one almost cutting their finger off or something. Going into it they each knew what they were getting regarding a partner for the 21 day challenge, something we don’t see too often on this show. I loved the ending!
  16. I’ll watch The Twilight Zone over and over when given the opportunity. I’m not a fan of the 4th season hour long format either. Of all the episodes in that season I’d say that only 2 fit that format well - Death Ship and Miniature. Rod Serling would have done better if he produced 2 half hour episodes at the time when CBS gave him a full hour.
  17. @lu1535 If I’m following you, you bring up an interesting question about what one can bring for a challenge. I’m not sure if I’d bring a pet but starting out with a meaty live animal would make at least the first few days of the challenge much easier! If it’s that or something else like a fire starter, knife or netting would the animal still be a good choice? I watched parts of last night’s 10 pm episode - I missed the last 15-20 minutes since I fell asleep. That guy seemed too gung-ho for my tastes and I found it a bit funny that he had to tap so early vs the “weekend camper” who had to go it alone for most of the challenge. I was a bit afraid for her when she was alone at first hearing those noises nearby. I’m also tired of these people who come on the show to demonstrate to their little ones how tough they are.
  18. Who knows what happened to Wilson. There was an episode where Wilson and Tramp didn’t get along but by the end of the episode they were friends. I guess Wilson went off to the same place as Tiger, the Brady’s dog.
  19. Hazel is on FE TV weekday mornings. I am not a fan of the show either but for those who are, enjoy your 2 hours of Hazel. https://fetv.tv/shows/ They appear to have a lot of the same shows as Antenna TV, COZI TV and MeTV.
  20. Robbie was in the reserves at least during the season he and Katie had the triplets. It would have been an interesting story line to pursue more of instead of having him marry so quickly. They never had Chip enlist in the reserves. Both attended college so they could each get a deferment. So the fan fic could be Chip flunks college and gets drafted? If the show lasted in to the 70s it would have been interesting to see what storylines they would have pursued - if one wanted to learn about the 60s by watching this show they would have missed a lot of what really happened. I wonder if the same approach would have been made for later 70s episodes.
  21. I’ve been a Twilight Zone fan for years. I discovered it in reruns on Channel 11 (NY) during summer vacation when I was a kid and had to see them all. I’ve also seen the CBS revival series in the 80s and the UPN version in the early 2000s. Neither one held up to the original, IMO. I’m not that happy about the new series being on All Access either since I’m of the opinion that we’re paying plenty for cable and we shouldn’t have to pay more for these streaming channels. Anyway, the SyFy channel had an all day marathon of the better episodes and I had to watch!
  22. @Tom Holmberg Yes they both have British accents. I have no idea why the original Star Trek is on BBC America either since the closest any of the cast comes to a UK affiliation are William Shatner and James Doohan, both Canadians. Also another annoying thing was their comments in the pop up boxes appearing through the episodes and the movie. Going back to not showing First Contact, at least that one stars Patrick Stewart.
  23. BBC America has been showing Star Trek the original series all day. They’re showing the best of Spock episodes along with comments from someone who is seeing it for the first time (why are they doing this???) and has an annoying voice. I bring this up because they’ve also shown some of the movies, not one of them is Star Trek First Contact which would be appropriate because today is First Contact Day!
  24. I think they are protected by law. At least that was my understanding when I was visiting the Grand Tetons National Park watching the buffalo. Anyway I watched the 2nd hour of last week’s episode after the two teams merged - boy that guy Seth is a piece of work. He has only himself to blame for his problems. Watching tonight’s episode that one with the long hair (sorry forget her name) seems like a lot of a do nothing. Interesting idea to have a team of 3 for a change, even if it didn’t really go to plan regarding tapping out.
  25. I watched Laugh-In during it's original run with my parents when I was little (I think they were the later episodes which were not as good) so I’d catch some of the episodes when I still had Decades. Some of it is like a time capsule showing the viewer what was topical at the time, so it’s like a pop culture history lesson.
