  1. Who knows what direction the story will go, but from what little we know about Kate, my concern would be her motivation. I can see her family being concerned that she's doing this for Toby, whom she has quickly become too dependent on since Kevin moved east.
  2. @HeyThere83, would you mind posting some links? As an old Y&R fan, I'm curious to read what he has to say. I haven't read any interviews from him since he left that show.
  3. I didn't realize this had dropped! I loved Season 1 SO MUCH. I'm going to go ahead and create episode threads. Not sure if there will be much traffic, but I'm hoping!
  4. As usual, Meredith was working my every last nerve. I don't get what she thinks is going to happen if Alex goes to trial, versus taking a plea. He's not going to be found not guilty, because evidence, and because he's admitted to a thousand different people that he did it. He's guilty. Loving kids doesn't change that, and wouldn't be a factor at trial (only at sentencing). And if he makes them go through a trial, he's not going to get off with zero jail time. (I love Alex, and I know he won't go to prison, but in-universe it's the most likely outcome to a trial.) It just always annoys me when people try to tell someone what they should do about a plea. I get that she's trying to keep his spirits up, etc., but in the end, it's Alex's life, and she needs to respect his decision. He's the one who will lose his license. He's the one that will have to suffer the indignities and the dangers of prison. He's the one who will lose a good chunk of his relative youth. He's the one who will forever be branded an ex-con. I know Mere cares for him, but she'll go to work and home to her kids regardless of the outcome. Also, this exchange... Mere, to Alex: "It's not about me! It's about you!" Mere, to Alex, five minutes later on the phone: "You can't leave me! I can't be the only one left!"
  5. I've just created another thread for discussion of the Reddit account... please discuss the full episode there, and keep this thread for "typical" Spoilers like cast interviews, BTS pictures, etc. PM @deaja or me if you need clarification. Thanks!
  6. Creating this thread so people can talk about the first episode, details of which are posted on Reddit by someone who has seen it. No spoiler tags are necessary in here for Episode 1, so if you read beyond this point, know that you will be thoroughly spoiled. The other thread will remain for discussion of "typical" spoilers... cast interviews, BTS photos, reports from extras, etc. Also, remember, until this drops on Netflix, any information from this Reddit account is still a spoiler in any other thread, so let's keep the discussion in here. Thanks in advance!
  7. She says in the article that they've talked about taking her character in other directions from the weight story, so I think that's positive. As for the contract, if she's okay with it, I'm okay with it. At least I'm guessing this means the show is being supportive.
  8. Let me check with @deaja to be certain. Please stand by... :-)
  9. For me, it's more Rebecca's attitude than her actions. Even when she's playing the middle, it comes off as "Thank you, Randall, for being SO accommodating. Kevin, isn't Randall being wonderfully generous?" Even when she takes Kevin's side, it seems like there's a bit of a "wink and a nod" with Randall, like "I'm taking his side, but you know how he is." Which really annoys me, because she's supposed to be the parent. She just lets them do whatever and then heaves a big exasperated sigh. But I'll admit I may be biased against Rebecca, whom I just can't like for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me.
  10. It's funny... so many people seem to go back to the pool scene when thinking about Kevin and Randall's childhood dynamic, but I always think of the Superbowl episode. Jack hugs Kate, who's clearly his favorite. Rebecca grabs Randall, who is clearly hers. And Kevin just flings himself against them, because he has no one. (Incidentally, while it can't have been easy being raised with Mr. Does Everything Right and Mr. Everything Comes Easy, I can see why Kate isn't competitive with them. She had dad. And she's not a brother.) Kevin should absolutely realize that Randall isn't to blame for Rebecca's shortcomings when they were growing up, but I sympathize, especially with teen Kevin. I think it's just easier in a way to blame the favored sibling for "stealing" mom's attention than to think to yourself that "mom just doesn't love me that much". Even more so when people around them probably always thought that she was a great mom. In reality, she's got a lot to answer to regarding those boys. And I'm not letting Jack off the hook, either. Did it ever occur to them to ask Kevin what was wrong?
  11. Agreed! Having sex is an action. Getting pregnant is a twist of fate. So having sex at 15 (with an irresponsible idiot) was clearly inadvisable. But how many other girls in Lorelei's age group were acting the same way, but just got lucky? I think questioning Lorelei's actions is fair game, but getting pregnant isn't an action. It's just a possible outcome.
  12. Shut the fuck up, Richard. Geez! If I'm on the table and people have their hands inside me, please stop distracting them by making them create tall tales about me. Treat me like a bag of organs. I'm fine with that, as long as that means they're actually concentrating on that bag of organs, and not people who aren't even in the room. Shut the fuck up, Owen's sister. See my note above to Richard. Little Steph can stay. She was adorable, and actually, you know, helpful. I generally dislike Meredith, and Ellen Pompeo doesn't do much for me as an actress, but she killed me in that scene with Zola. Full on tears. (And I don't even cry watching This Is Us.)
  13. Agreed, @Winston9-DT3 - I don't see any danger there. Gemma's not a little child. She's a teenager with a smartphone in a suburban neighborhood. She can call her mom, text a friend, request an Uber. Heck, if she was worried, she could have simply apologized to Kate. She clearly had no hesitance about walking in that neighborhood. She was just pissed at Kate calling her out and standing up for herself. If I were Kate, I would have dumped her out just the same. If anything, I would have called her mother and said, "your daughter was being a total bitch to me, so I kicked her out of my car. If you want her, I left her at (intersection). Oh, and I quit. Be your own kid's mother."
  14. Haha! This show is quickly becoming "Everybody But Alicia and Cary". They should have just sent Alicia off somewhere and kept going where they were. Sheesh!
  15. From a new interview with Matt Czuchry... So apparently Logan isn't in the final scene, FWIW.
  16. I'm hoping for a meteor. A very small one, hitting Trump Tower.
  17. What I shared on FB tonight: Before the world goes crazy tonight, I just want to say... the Ship of State has sailed rough waters before and survived. To the "losers" - stay calm, ships turn slowly. To the "winners" - you can't steer it alone. And to everyone - we are all on this boat together. We all have to do our part to stay on course. There's been so much talk about how divided the nation is today. Politicians, the media, our government leaders... none of them can fix it. Only WE can unite our country again. We need to get to know people who are different from us. Open our hearts and minds to other perspectives. Focus on what we have in common instead of what sets us apart. Educate ourselves on the issues from multiple media sources. And above all, we need to GET INVOLVED. In our communities, our schools, our local charities. And yes, in politics. As much as I have lamented the horrible choice between the two nominees from the major parties, I must take my share of the blame. By doing nothing and allowing others to make those choices, I have been complicit in this farce. No more. No more "lesser of two evils". No more "holding my nose". No more. We deserve better. America deserves better. Let's do better.
  18. I'm totally a Kevin. Not my story so much - I'm the youngest in my family, and I don't think I ever wanted for attention. But the deflecting attention with humor, telling everyone your life is better than it is, the fear of failure that results in either not trying or pretending you didn't care in the first place? Yep, that's me.
  19. Guys, just a friendly reminder to keep the focus of the conversation on this episode. Not that the anecdotes about the comparative benefits of private versus public schools aren't interesting, because they are, but if it doesn't directly relate to Randall's experience in this episode, it's veering away from the topic. Cheers!
  20. The Chicago Cubs just won the World Series, y'all. After 108 fucking years. I'm a Cardinals fan, their biggest rival, but I have so much joy right now. Anything can happen. Even my asteroid. #FlyTheW #NoMoreNextYear
  21. As much as this pains me, he is correct in some states (not Illinois): http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/national/can-you-change-your-early-vote-yes-some-states/CAmFsM9kabIeog0sGVOTyJ/ But he's still an idiot, and I'm still waiting for a small asteroid strike.
  22. Seriously. They* would believe this. I've been supporting McMullin on social media, and you CANNOT get through to these Trump people that even if McMullin takes Utah, it will NOT help elect Clinton. The electoral college has to be won by a majority, not a plurality. Apparently they all need to take basic math again. And civics. And logic. All they can do is spittle-scream, "A vote for him is a vote for Hillary! And lies! And dead babies! And ISIS! And you're going to HELL!!!!!" Jesus, I do not want to be affiliated with those people. I'm a conservative**, but I'm no Republican. I'm no Democrat, either, but the Republicans have lost me forever by showing what huge cowards they are. *Not all, obviously. Some people are voting for policies. But I don't think those people are the nutjobs screaming at people all over the internet. Yikes. **Also, I feel like I should probably make clear... I mean conservative in the original "smaller federal government, lower taxes for the middle class, help to grow small businesses" way, not whatever bastardized version the GOP is selling these days.
  23. Bolding mine. Yes, God yes, to all of this. I suspect I'm to the right of most of the people here - I'll confess I only read a couple of pages, because I spend most of my time trying to forget that this election cycle is real and not some horrible nightmare. But Donald Trump is inherently unfit to be President. Forget that he has no record, no clear policies, no qualifications, and no restraint. He is repellent. Trump is the embodiment of the divisiveness and hate that is so troubling in today's culture. And don't even get me started on the p**sy-grabbing. I'm supposed to fill in an oval for a man that I wouldn't trust alone with my nieces? No, I won't do it. Anyway, I thought it was important to speak out and note that there are plenty of us who are center and center-right who are also strongly #NeverTrump. It's something all thinking people can agree on! Cheeto is a unifier after all. >:-[ For as much as liberals hate Trump, imagine how horrifying it is to end up with him as "your" candidate! (Not that I've ever been party affiliated, or voted on party lines - I'm somewhat skeptical of anyone who agrees with one party or politician 100% of the time. My beliefs are all over the map, depending the issue.) My vote doesn't really matter, as Illinois is solidly blue, but I'm voting for Evan McMullan. I want to send a message to the Republican party that just because I lean conservative, that doesn't mean they own my ballot and I'll vote for whatever cretin they nominate. And I want to send a message to the world, and my more liberal friends, that not all conservatives are racist, xenophobic, homophobic, misogynistic assholes. (Although social media makes me wonder.) Following Evan, I've seen so many posts from Trumpists saying things like, "we can't let Hillary win!" Who, pray tell, is "we"? I sure didn't have anything to do with nominating that nutjob. I said all along that he was a deeply flawed candidate, with no chance to win the general election, even against HRC. So don't come crying to me now that your chickens are coming home to roost. There were so many times that he could have been stopped, if someone had just shown a little courage. I've lost a LOT of respect for some "leaders" who failed to act. Basically, I really miss the days when I felt like our leaders had our best interests at heart, even if their views differed from mine. Thanks for this! I needed the laugh. Great palate cleanser.
