  1. Talking about the Fire Island scenes being mostly accurate, I think the writers get the jist of the history, although those who actually lived though the times or studied them can find errors or omissions. For example, the big candlelight march showing Frankie, Jerome and Tim together was the night Mayor Moscone and Supervisor Milk were assassinated, not a few days after the White Night Riot. This was an opportunity to show those fellows together, so it wasn't a big deal in the long run, but accurate it wasn't. And I'm not so sure Marcus would have been worried about losing his job at SF State in 1978, when the City had anti-descrimination laws by then and there were a number of out gay and lesbian faculty. But that was kind of residual fear from his previous experiences.
  2. 1) Mr. Roger's show was produced by the PBS station in Pittsburgh, WQED. 2) As for Rachel Bloom being wasted, I think it was important for a known actress to play that part. It gave the viewer an extra sense that the character was a good producer and that WGBH was lucky to get her. It also showed that she did a good job, but that Julia, in truth, did not want to work for an experienced woman. Avis understood that even if Julia didn't.
  3. I found Agnes's coming to comfort Ada as more self-serving than mere comforting of her sister. Agnes assumed her sister would be grateful for her offer of help to care for the ill reverend. With her husband gone, Ada would come back to live with Agnes. It all works out for Agnes who never wanted Ada to leave her.
  4. The real life Fortune was very much married at the time. He did separate from his wife, but not until 1908, much later than when the incident at Tuskegee took place. But who knows what fictional take the storyline will follow.
  5. Consuelo Vanderbilt was 18, about the same age as Gladys when her mother forced her to marry a British duke. Consuelo was vehemently against marrying the duke, but her mother eventually got her way. (It's a long and fascinating story, but this is probably not the place to go into it.) It was a loveless marriage for both parties, but considerable money was involved to save the duke's palace. Perhaps a similar situation will arise with the Russells. It apparently was pretty common for wealthy Americans in the Gilded Age to marry off their daughters into English aristocracy. -- Edited per correction by Roseanna
  6. I did like the way at the funeral they combined Esther/Behzig and Golda reciting the mourners kaddish along with the drumming and chanting of the Native ceremony. I don't know why Leo and Dora stood back when their supposedly deceased mother appeared. They should have gone up to her for a hug, too and she should have approached all of her children for a group hug.
  7. So what happened to the "celebrity" Rick got to attend the ball as TC's date? Did she show up anyway because they didn't bother to let her know TC didn't want to be set up?
  8. You never know what turn a fictional story will take, but the publisher was a real person who lived until 1928, so hopefully they'll stick to reality.
  9. Speaking of bad writing, the ex comes to the sister's house to ask her if she wants to go with her to a show, since she unexpectedly has an extra ticket. (A phone call would have been more practical, no?) Was this just an excuse to see her? Then ex gets called away for a case, but doesn't leave the promised ticket(s).
  10. Schine's famility owns the Ambassador Hotel? That's where RFK was assassinated years later. Small world.
  11. It was asked: Does that mean the husband doesn't get his $3million? I don't think the widower cared about the money. The VIPER squad was disbanded and the judge was arrested for changing the address. Also, I don't know why they couldn't have proved the victim was unarmed.
  12. Considering Schmackary's Cookies is a real bakery and are proudly promoting their appearance on OMITB, I doubt they would be promoting their appearance if their business is rat infested. Perhaps you were only kidding, but some people might take your comment seriously.
  13. "Jackie stopped dying her hair...." Perhaps that's because it was dark for her role In Dark Winds and she didn't have time to dye it back.
  14. Why did Joy's mother send the wedding dress to Charles's apartment? Hasn't Joy told her the wedding is off? Hmm...
  15. I like that after their talk where they opened up to each other, Jess and Sunny are getting along and working well together. It's funny to watch the reaction of the other members of the squad, who don't understand what changed. Jess is thanking officers for their work and Sunny is no longer complaining about her all the time.
  16. Season 5 Episode 3 Sunny's fiancee is pregnant and he's promised to be home that night to discuss whether they both want to continue the pregnancy. IIRC, he's already avoided speaking with her. Instead, he heads off to interview a suspect in Paris. This couldn't have waited until morning? It's not as if Karol, the suspect, was about to flee.
  17. Fittingly, this theater was the site of the 2023 Tonys. It looked liked a fantastic place.
  18. I'm sure someone will know the answer to this, but how did the belt buckle, which seemed to be made of copper or brass, turn from a brownish look into the white feather? Was it the heating process?
  19. On the other hand, during their away from the nesting house week, Abby can stay at her mother's lovely home, while Frank has to find someplace to rent.
  20. abbyzenn, did you just give away a spoiler?
  21. S02.E08: Family History Glad we got to see some Jerri backstory, but it was handled rather badly, IMHO. Sure, her daughter was traumatized by Jerri's drunken behavior, but why didn't Jerri point out that she hasn't had a drink in 26 years? Doesn't she believe Eleanor that Jerri has been sober for all that time? If the daughter is worried about Jerri behaving badly with her daughter, why don't Jerri and Eleanor's other kids tell her how good Jerri's behavior has been with them? Do either of them have kids? I'm glad Jerri's daughter is sitting down with her, but it seems that if Lucy was a half-way decent therapist, they could have dealt with this in the session.
  22. Charlotte and Harry are both busy, but they're also rich. Hire a housekeeper to help out. Aiden is blowing Carrie off for five years and she's okay with that? His son needs a therapist, not a helicopter father. I agree with the poster who said that the boy has played his father to break up with Carrie. Even if he felt that he needed to spend more time with Wyatt, if he REALLY cared about Carrie, he would have tried to work out a schedule where they could have kept seeing each other - BEFORE five years (snap!) passed.
  23. 1) Where are Che and Miranda getting the money to rent that nice place and pay for all their other expenses? The pilot hasn't sold and Miranda isn' working. 2) Why didn't Miranda first try calling her missing phone instead of Carrie in New York? Or doesn't she know that either? 3) Searching for her phone, Miranda threw all the seaweed and garbage that they'd spent the whole afternoon picking up out of the trash baskets back onto the sand.
  24. I thought that Devi jumping to the front of the line was really obnoxiouos behavior and she didn't deserve a second chance. I'm surprised the other kids just stood there and didn't say anything, like you would if someone jumped the line in the bank or the grocery store.
  25. I felt sorry for the Hunt kids. If you're wondering how their lives turned out, here is the answer. Spoiler alert: not so well. https://thecinemaholic.com/where-are-e-howard-hunts-kids-now/
