I was crying I was laughing so hard at that part. "This guy and the fucking arm!" Steven Yeun just nailed the whole thing, but that part in particular was fantastic. The Eddie Aikau part was making me laugh, not because the story was funny, but because I kept hearing all the Eddie parts in Jason Manzoukis's voice, which made it very entertaining to me.

Party of One: Unpopular TV Opinions
Princess Sparkle replied to mstaken's topic in Everything Else TV
I just started watching these two shows, so I'm not entirely sure if these are UO, but I'm gathering that they are: Call the Midwife UO: I like Jenny and don't find her boring in the slightest. The Wire UO: I cannot STAND McNulty. I want to smack him in his self-righteous, whiny face. -
S21.E03: The Girl Who's A Player
Princess Sparkle replied to OnceSane's topic in America's Next Top Model [V]
I cannot figure out why half the guys were drooling over Kari. She looks completely average to me, and I thought she was much older than 23 - she, looks-wise, reminds me of a low rent Denise Richards. Maybe her personality is awesome? Romeo is so obnoxious, which means he'll be around for awhile. I did cackle that his social media score was so low. I'm sure he didn't mean it sarcastically, but I got a huge laugh from Matthew saying "Wow, and Tyra looks good in the house too!" I also busted a gut when Will rolled his eyes at Adam playing beer pong and tipped his wine glass to the camera. -
Even though it didn't get big laughs from the audience, Tuscon State Racists gave me a huge belly laugh. I'm sure their breakup couldn't have been that acrimonious since it happened a few years ago and she has a podcast on Nerdist(unless she got it before they broke up), but the armchair psycologist in me says that Chris and Janet had a messy breakup. Some of those jokes about their relationship didn't really seem like jokes, if that makes sense - like the "how did you put up with me" "Drugs!" and "I hope this makes up for everything!". Those almost seemed like there was a little truth behind them. Just had a different vibe between the two of them than when his previous ex was on. And I would absolutely watch a new Three's Company starring Pete Holmes and Garfunkel & Oates.

They didn't laugh, but we (the audience) I believe are supposed to think it's funny that this crazy misunderstanding took place. And I believe what my Mom was trying to ping is that Lucy initially made the joke that Ricky hit her, and the point was "don't joke about someone hitting you, because it's not funny." Though, for all of Fred's anger, he did try to get the two back together by sending Lucy apology flowers in Ricky's name, because I remember that he messes up and puts his own name on the card (instead of Ricky's), which is what makes Ethel think Lucy is seeing another man. Which is very of the time, but it still is a little cringeworthy to watch.

Oh man, now I can't WAIT for this to come out. I tried to set a pre-order for it on Amazon though, and only the old version showed up. Anyone know why that is? Separate Emmy shallow note: I am a straight woman, and thought Kate McKinnon looked absolutely fantastic. It's so rare to get to see any of the cast members really dressed up and decked out, and she looked very lovely. I was hoping maybe she could pull off an upset, but I think Alison Janney got the win on name recognition alone. I thought Seth did a pretty good job hosting (hosting is a pretty thankless job, since people just assume you're going to crash and burn), but with his interactions with Amy, I kind of wish they could've hosted together.

Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality
Princess Sparkle replied to Kromm's topic in Everything Else TV
That goes right along with the classic, post-coital "bed sheet pulled up to a woman's chest, but all the way down for the man." I mean, I logically know why they do it, it just cracks me up every time it happens. -
My Mom LOVES I Love Lucy and had me watch them when I was a kid, but I distinctly remember her using one of the episodes as a "very special talk" episode. There's an episode where most of the episode (and the main joke) hinges around Fred and Ethel thinking that Ricky punched Lucy (he didn't, but Lucy says he did as a joke) and I remember my Mom drilling into me that Ricky hitting Lucy isn't a joke, and it's not something we should find funny. I do remember there being other episodes where Ricky threatened to hit her and it was supposed to be funny, but yeesh - really doesn't hold up well. As for more recent shows, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Buffy doesn't hold up nearly as well as I remember, especially those early seasons. I still like it, but some of it is just so cringeworthy. Whereas Angel, I think, holds up much, much better.

I don't think that happened because The Wire was on cable, because The Sopranos and Sex and the City both premiered on HBO before The Wire debuted, and were picking up awards by then. I think what happened because HBO put the majority of its drama award hopes on The Sopranos and since that was the more buzzed about show, it overshadowed The Wire for its entire run.Doesn't make it any better, but I don't think being on cable was why it was snubbed.

S21.E02: The Guy Who Gets A Second Chance
Princess Sparkle replied to Tara Ariano's topic in America's Next Top Model [V]
That annoyed me, because the photographer relayed what happened completely incorrectly, and butchered it enough that it made me wonder if he was purposely trying to cause an issue. Matthew didn't say "it's MATTHEW!", he said "actually, I prefer Matthew", which is so not a huge deal. They were just told they'd be seeing the guy the whole season, so it's not completely out of line for Matthew to try and assert what his name is now, especially because I'm sure most people naturally try and shorten his name. Adam and Romeo are clearly there for the drama, which is unfortunate, because I can't stand either one. Adam is that sad guy who can't leave behind his college days. I almost feel a little bad for Jamie, because I feel like she was brought on as a joke. There is no way they were ever seriously planning on taking her. I'm also surprised Ben made it over Josh, because while both had terrible photos, Josh is better looking. -
Actors You Just Can't Stand
Princess Sparkle replied to iPad's topic in Everything Else About Movies
I was so happy she showed how much of an ass she is on national television. Not only did she make it all about her, her tacky ass bellowed Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughy's names, practically whispered Kevin Spacey's afterwards, then actually sounded disappointed when Bryan Cranston was announced as the winner. As if her friends were the only two nominees that mattered. Ugh. -
It was The Violence of Summer (also one of Gil Bellows first on-screen roles I believe). He was also nominated for an Emmy. The person who I had a harder time connecting to a tv show was Paul Walker, because I think of him as strictly a movie actor (not that I'm mad about the inclusion. Just took me by surprise).

S21.E01: The Boyz R Back
Princess Sparkle replied to Rhondinella's topic in America's Next Top Model [V]
I could not figure out why exactly that set her off so much - it seemed like such a random thing to get angry about. He didn't even appear to be asking her out or saying he thought he could date her (which is what Kelly seemed to be screaming about), more like "wow, yeah, you're super hot." Which normally is unprofessional, but not on a show where Tyra has just asked you to teach her the booty song. -
Movie Endings That Rock!
Princess Sparkle replied to BizBuzz's topic in Everything Else About Movies
In addition to the ones already mentioned (The Usually Suspects is one of my favorite twists), Primal Fear had one of the best "Oh shit!" endings for me. I'm still mad Edward Norton lost the Oscar to Cuba Gooding Jr, because the strength of his performance is what helps pull off the twist; just as the strength of Kevin Spacey's performance in the Usual Suspects. My jaw was also on the floor for the endings of the first Saw,The Blair Witch Project and the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Carrie just straight up scared the shit out of me (geez, I watch a lot of horror movies.) And in non-twist endings, I really love the endings of the first Rocky and The Godfather. -
I feel like there are so many, but the ones that pop right into my head as being hilarious are: "Cunnilingus? Girlfriend can spell!" - Ryan O'Reilly "I shat on a man's face. That isn't normal." - Beecher And it wasn't a quote, so much as a look, but the look Said gives the man who delivers his book about the Oz riots is hilarious - I think Coach Baron at TWOP described it as a ""I pity you, you fat, fat man" look, and it's so accurate.

There were some legitimately hard matchups for me to choose on in that bracket - it took me awhile to decide in the Chevy Chase/Dan Ackroyd, Sandler/Farley, Carvey/McDonald and Forte/Samberg matchups. I want to choose my top 10, but I think it might take me a bit to decide - do I give more weight to hilarity, or what they did for the show? (I'ts the same reason I had trouble choosing in the matchups) For example, while he may not have been the funniest person on the cast during his time on the show, I know my top 10 list would have Andy Samberg, just because the Digital Shorts completely revolutionized SNL.

Well, there goes my day at work....
-
I somehow missed this episode the first time around, and I'm so delighted to have finally seen it - the Captain's "My wife was killed by a man in a yellow sweater!" was so unexpected to me that I howled with laughter. And while the Boyle Bingo made me laugh in the beginning, I loved that they brought it back around in the end when Jake finally got Bingo. And to completely dip into the shallow end of the pool - Andy Samberg wore that suit well at the very end. He looked extremely handsome.

I think all the storytellers are drunk, it's just the level of drunkeness varies from person to person - there have definitely been episodes (like the Charlston one for example) where people are on the floor drunk, or puking.

Movies Based on Real People
Princess Sparkle replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Everything Else About Movies
One of my all-time favorite Joaquin Phoenix performances is Johnny Cash - any other year he would've won, but not when nominated against Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Capote and Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain. I did think Joaquin and Reese played extremely well off each other - they had an amazing amount of chemistry. In the "best" list, I'll throw in Born on the Fourth of July. Hands down Tom Cruise's best performance, and the film is just great. I also think 127 Hours is probably James Franco's best movie, and I was rooting for him to get the Oscar that year - Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg was a close second for me, and I also really like The Social Network (even if it isn't the most accurate). And in the worst category, I'll just leave one of my favorite Cracked articles here. -
Unfortunately, after giving up cable right before this new season started, Whose Line isn't on Hulu Plus. Which now I'm mad that I've been robbed of Brad Sherwood.
-
I'm still here! The only episode I remember distinctly from this season is Killerz though - I've probably seen the others and just don't recognize the names. Or maybe it's because I like to pretend that Adam never left, and is still hiding around the DAs office whispering "Take the deal!"

I wish I still had the Robin Williams episode on my dvr, because I had it on there for YEARS. It's only up in bits and pieces on youtube, but he was hysterical - and out of all his jokes, my favorite was his deadpan "I have a career, what the hell am I doing here?" during Scenes from a Hat. One of the things that strikes me, from these episodes to the Aisha years, is how much better Jeff Davis has gotten. He wasn't one of my favorites during this Drew Carey years, but I think he's one of the best on the show now. It also really makes me miss Brad Sherwood - I floved him during these years. He was the best during "Questions Only" and "If You Know What I Mean." Do they even do "If you know what I mean" anymore? I used to love how bad Colin was at it. I will post my two favorite Whose Line clips ever - I think they're on most people's lists as the best sketches, but I watch them whenever I'm having a bad day. The "Wrong Name" Irish Drinking Song - Colin's "Meow"s are the best part, as well as him being the only one left standing at the end: And the Arctic Tern part of the "Greatest hits about Birds" sketch:

I think I damn near died laughing at the Waring segment - I don't know who was acting out the "I know this guy who got stabbed getting a handjob" part, but her reaction was perfect. Busy Phillips was hilarious. I also loved Derek Waters being unable to contain his laughter at how drunk Mark Gagliardi was.
