I’m surprised they didn’t submit Sterling either, but I bet he’s submitting his guest spot in Brooklyn Nine Nine instead (which was a stronger comedy role). Submitting Saorise over Tiffany Haddish is legit baffling to me. Very strange choice.

Mod Reminder: The only things to be discussed in the weekly episode threads are topics that are discussed on the show. No personal politics, no using something as a segue to talk about something not on the show, and no sniping at your fellow posters. If you see a post that is off-topic, report it. If you see a poster whose opinions you disagree with, but they aren't against the rules, then use the ignore feature. Going forward, any off-topic posts will be removed without warning.

S43.E20: Amy Schumer / Kacey Musgraves
Princess Sparkle replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
I like Amy well enough, but oooof, I thought this episode was pretty bad. I think this is destined to be one of those episodes that is completely forgotten about, especially because it's going to be sandwiched in between Donald Glovers great episode and what will be Tina Fey's fantastic episode (she's never hosted a dud IMO). I liked Lil Rent, and for whatever reason, Kyle's mom in the cold open delighted me. She seems like a character. -
S43.E19: Donald Glover / Childish Gambino
Princess Sparkle replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
Apparently, Cecily has been waiting to do the sketch for awhile and just needed a host who knew what she was referring to Also looks like Chris Redd was responsible for the Friendos sketch -
S43.E19: Donald Glover / Childish Gambino
Princess Sparkle replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
My god, is there anything Donald Glover can’t do? I thought it was going to be hard to top the Mulaney episode so soon, but Donald Glover was (unsurprisingly) fantastic. And I need those Childish Gambino songs ASAP; Saturday was a jam. There’s already a “Cut for Time” sketch on the SNL app, which I also found funny. Not sure if it’s on their YouTube channel yet, but if it is, I’ll add the link. Eta - found it -

I saw this story pop up this morning on Lindy West's instagram - Aidy is set to star in the adaptation of Shrill for Hulu. Ecstatic for Aidy, but I bet this means Aidy leaves at the end of the season

Last two shows of the year announced - May 12 is Amy Schumer/Kacey Musgraves, and the finale is Tina Fey/Nicki Minaj

S43.E18: John Mulaney / Jack White
Princess Sparkle replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
I don’t either - he posted on his Instagram the pics of him cracking up twice in the same spot and he said “Kenan always gets me.” So I don’t have any trouble thinking that Kenan coming out as a lobster and singing cracked him up twice. -
S43.E18: John Mulaney / Jack White
Princess Sparkle replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
According to his twitter, Lobster Les Miz was something he and Colin Jost wrote in 2010 and it got cut, and Switcheroo was something he wrote in 2009 that was also cut. I’m glad they brought both of them back; they were hysterical. John Mulaney killed it. I know it helps to be a former writer (and a prolific one) , so you already know the format, but he was exceptionally good. Hopefully this introduces him to people who haven’t heard of him. -
I feel like the only flash we got of how the judges truly felt was when they were initially walking around, and Nunez and Ollie both agreed Rolly was the worst. And you could see the realization that producers clearly said they needed one person from each team to stick around when Ollie said "Team Steve could end up with no one" and Nunez just paused, didn't really say anything, but had an "Oh fuck, we can't do that" look on his face. Just the fact that there were no votes for Rolly to go home was bonkers. I also felt like they didn't really want to say it, but Deanna's portrait looked more like the picture than they wanted to admit. Because I'm sure that woman is lovely, but when they were showing the side-by-side, she did have slightly buck teeth and a wonky eye. Which is fine, but they shouldn't act like Deanna butchered the photo. Josh's portrait might go down as one of the best I've ever seen on the show. It really looked like Ollie and might slightly edge out the Dave portrait Jime did back in season 3. I would never have expected to say this at the beginning of the season, but he is really growing on me. I think he and Deanna's friendship is sweet and seems quite genuine.

S43.E17: Chadwick Boseman / Cardi B
Princess Sparkle replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
I want to make it abundantly clear that I would never want actual R Kelly to appear to me in a magical mirror. But Chadwick Boseman as R Kelly can show up anywere he damn well pleases; good lord, he’s a gorgeous man. -
Exactly! And this also goes to why I think Steve is kind of a shit judge - why the hell wouldn't he tell Roly that? I also think DJ is a terrible judge, but at least when Deanna said she was going to freehand something that she did all the time, he agreed it was the right way to go.

I was at the taping for this special, and I can tell you, when he got to the "Quack Quack" part, I heard the loudest laugh I've ever heard at any comedy special I've been to (and I've been to a few that have been taped). I swear, if anything on Netflix, I think they scaled back the laughter so you could hear him. I'm trying to think of, other than Stefon, what John Mulaney's sketches were that he wrote. I know he wrote a lot (and ended up with an Emmy for writing the Anniversary special), but I'm completely blanking on what some of his recurring sketches were.

I didn't mind this episode - I echo the others that Deanna's freehand tattoo was fantastic - but what's killing me about this season is that other than Anthony, the coaches they picked were awful. Steve and DJ are good tattooers, but they just aren't good coaches. There is a difference between doing a line drawing that challenges your team (like Anthony did) versus one they won't be able to produce (like Steve did). And he knows he fucked up with that drawing, because he immediately got defensive when called out about it. Anthony hit the nail on the head when he said you always have to coach your team; I know Steve doesn't like Jeremy, but to give him no guidance when Jeremy asked for his opinion was shitty. I really want to hate Josh, and I feel confident that I wouldn't want to live in the Ink Master house with him, but I really like how supportive he is to Deanna as a team mate. That's been going on for a couple weeks now, which makes me think he's not a total asshole, but knows he was cast to be a troublemaker and is giving the producers what they want.

American Crime Story in the Media
Princess Sparkle replied to yeswedo's topic in American Crime Story
Looks like they're going in a new direction for Season 4 - Ryan Murphy announced he's scrapping the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal for that season. It's interesting to me that outside of the first season, Ryan Murphy is a little unfocused on how the rest of them shape up. First, it was season 2 having to turn into season 3 because he couldn't nail the direction to go in, and now season 4 is going to be a new story entirely. -
I think I pulled something laughing at: "What'd you have her do?" "Be herself" "Poor son of a bitch" That and Holt's extremely matter of fact explanation as for why the body had bear semen on it. Andre Braugher is just fantastic.

Just saw on Instagram that the April 14th show is John Mulaney with musical guest Jack White.

Unpopular Opinions: Whitney's Fabulous!

S43.E16: Bill Hader / Arcade Fire
Princess Sparkle replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
God, this episode made me miss Bill Hader so badly. There are some people who are just lightening in a bottle on SNL, and he's one of them. This might have been my favorite episode of the season. A lot of people touched on my favorite parts, but I absoluetly lost my shit when Stefon whispered to his lawyer, and then looked completely proud of himself that he said "little people". Part of me wonders too if John Mulaney whispered a new updated thing for Bill to say in the next part of the sketch. And I will never get tired of Bill's Alan Alda impression, because it's so random, but completely spot on. Pete has been hiding some amazing impressions in his back pocket, and he should do them more often. His Adam Sandler was killer, and he nailed his Jim Carrey impression earlier this season. -
I think James Adomian's Sebastian Gorka is hilarious, but that being said, I don't think his brand of comedy would ever fit in with SNL's, so I'm assuming that's why he wasn't hired. Besides, being openly gay sure didn't prevent Terry Sweeney or John Milhsner from being hired (something he tweeted about in fact): That being said, I don't disagree that there needs to be more diversity and headway made with SNL hiring openly gay comedians. I just don't think that's why James Adomain hasn't been hired.

S03.E08: A Jury of Their Queers
Princess Sparkle replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars
You know, I’m a Big Ben defender, but she loses me with this vote. She went on and on the whole season about how she was going with who did the best overall...and then she doesn’t vote for the person with the best track record all season? Fuck that. Even if she wanted to vote for Kennedy because she was moved, where is her justification for voting for Trixie over Shangela. I thought Thorgy was so stank this season, but I’ll give her credit for being the only one to put aside her feelings. Man, All Stars should be my favorite seasons, but every single one has let me down. I just want to see good queens from different seasons do challenges with no shenanigans; is that too much to ask for?
