  1. I'm noticing some pretty lousy episodes in the original era, though it's not surprising--I think some people build it up it their minds that everything they did was great! The Mary Kay Place episode was just poorly written and had a weird lack of energy. And, by the way, does anyone know what Charles Grodin did to get banned from the show. I caught the end of his Art Garfunkel bit, and I thought he was very funny.
  2. The Falconer on one of the Kevin Spacey episodes was one of the funniest sketches I'ver ever seen, where every single cast member plays The Falconer--all at once. Hilarious. Edited--just clicked the link, and there it is!
  3. I'm actually excited. Three hours of SNL is a perfect night for me.
  4. Hader seems like he is a very joyful person.
  5. It was, Eddie was surprisingly, an Ebersol find, not one of Lorne's people.
  6. Hmmm, watching the Ebersol years now. Just awful. Eddie Murphy really kept the show alive.
  7. The bedroom scenes have been so brutally honest, even if the dominatrix stuff was played for laughs. I'm wondering if them going to therapy will bring out some of what happened for them to get this way--frankly, the way Michelle feels seems like something brought on by resentment, which can kill your sex life! Some of the same themes are brought up in the film The One I Love, which stars Mark Duplass, and I think it's such a wonderful, understated movie, for anyone who's interested (it's streaming on Netflix)
  8. I totally agree. The stars of Big Bang Theory do NOT deserve their huge raises, the last episode I watched was horrible and everyone except Parsons looked like they were sleepwalking through it.
  9. OK, so Bobby was on Late Night last night and I learned that he wrote Drunk Uncle with....wait for it...Colin Jost.
  10. Who know how the episodes for the marathon were chosen, I saw a Tom Hanks episode (Five Timers' Club, Short Term Memory Guy) that was hysterical, and it was cut to half an hour. But we got the whole hour of a terrible Courtney Cox episode and an painfully unfunny Sharon Stone episode. They even dared to show the Steven Seagal episode, and I hear he is being touted as the worst host ever.
  11. The VH1 90's episode definitely do not have the musical acts added, while the more current ones did. I even noticed a few 90's episodes that were nearly commercial free.
  12. I absolutely loved this episode, beginning to end. It was just a delight. The animation is so inventive, I love the shots that they get (however you do that with cartoons), I love the little things like when they shoot the characters from below, for example. I loved that when Gene and Louise threw their bowling balls, Gene's arms just went up into a V, it was so Gene.
  13. Chris Martin has been slowly getting hotter and hotter, he's buff now and you can't forget about those gorgeous blue eyes.
  14. Bobby as Drunk Uncle is wonderful, he walks the line between silly and pathos, I think he has a great actor in him and he will be able to move on to other kinds of roles, like Bill Hader (who astounded me in The Skeleton Twins). My favorite Drunk Uncle bit was the one with Peter Dinklage, who was awesome. "You wanna know what's in my Tumblr? Regret."
  15. I have, in Charlie Brown cartoons! Color me shocked, but I loved Michelle's gown. It was gorgeous. I can't understand why Helen is still here, and I don't understand that she only makes high end gowns, but they're all in a dishwater color or off-white color. Who are the high end clients buying these dresses, and who goes to Helen, sees the way she dresses, the tattoos, the greasy hair and lack of makeup or even a smile--and says, "hey, yeah, make me a pretty gown!" I don't get it.
  16. The 2008 Jon Hamm episode was just tops on all accounts, it doesn't hurt that the original episode featured four songs from Coldplay, my favorite band. Why hasn't Hamm hosted in awhile, I wonder?
  17. I caught some episodes after Jimmy Fallon left but prior to Bill Hader getting there, and there seemed a huge void. I watched Skeleton Twins on Sunday and Hader was fantastic. I really love him on SNL, he may be one of my all time favorite cast members.
  18. We've been getting Overly Paranoid Rob Lowe. I used to be irritated by Rob Lowe, for no good reason, but he really needs to do comedy for the rest of his career.
  19. Overall, a good show. JK is super professional, one of those hosts that knows what he needs to do and does it, without going over the top like Jim Carrey, for example. Loved the Totino's commercial, it just made me happy. WU- once Che remarked about the quincineras that Jost had been to, I thought for sure Jost would comment back, even offscreen, but no. Interact, you two! Mike O'Brien is so awesome, although I'm wondering why Sasheer was playing Beyonce when everyone else was white, perhaps Aidy would have been funnier in the role. And since I've been watching the SNL marathon for hours, I wasn't phased by seing Sudeikis, until I thought, "Hey, he's not on the show anymore!"
  20. My first thought when I saw the "wedding party" was "this girls friends are ALL models???" FAKE, FAKE, FAKE, FAKE (thank you, Elaine Benes!) In retrospect, this episode was a disaster, I couldn't wait til it was over. I miss the old, classy PR, now we have this rushed, junky, fake show.
  21. I'm starting to love Mei's bitchface. It gives a good name to all women with resting bitchface.
  22. I liked his art the best too. I really am starting to hate challenges where they have to cook a dish that has to represent something, I would just start making a shit story up, I also hated symbolism when I took English classes: "This represents love, this represents pain, this represent a church, this represents a steeple, open it up and see all the people!"
  23. The first episode is the Tina Fey-hosted season premier from last season.
  24. Yay! Now if HBO can just get to that Bored to Death movie....
  25. Not sure where to place this, but the 19 day marathon of SNL begins tonight on VH1Classic, I have a few episodes ready to tape, not sure, but it looks like they are skipping some? I just did a quick scan of the episode descriptions on my cable. Anyone else looking forward to this?
