  1. I agree it was heavy handed. Not much subtlety here, and we've seen this theme several times now. I understand the idea is to make comments about human societies through science fiction, and there is a long tradition of that. But I don't think it's Earth's place to sit in judgement on all other cultures. That's why they have the Prime Directive, or whatever version of that is in play here (and it's clear they do have one). If or when we ever meet alien cultures I imagine there will be a whole lot of things we don't agree about, or don't understand. This will require more diplomacy, not less. Ed's hints that maybe we might be seeing Moclans as villains in the future instead of allies was interesting. And they also seem to be setting Klyden up as a bad guy. I agree with the poster above who said his marriage with Bortus isn't going to last.
  2. Sounds like a good theory. It would be funny if they drilled down so deep, and then the whole island just sank lol. It would be awful to lose the menorah from Solomon's Temple that way though...
  3. Saw the season 12 opener. Senior and Junior are still getting along, it's nice to see, even heartwarming. Apparently their joint project this year is going to be restoring a '51 Buick, like the one Senior's father owned. But neither one has experience restoring cars so I'm not sure what to expect. I certainly don't think it's going to end up a show car, it'll be lucky if they don't destroy it lol. I liked both the bikes this episode, Junior's MLB Network bike and OCC's Hydromat bike. I thought OCC's finished bike looked better than the concept picture. I continue to like OCC's bikes better than I did on the Junior vs Senior shows. Makes me wonder if they were sandbagging it back then while Senior played the villain lol.
  4. This is what I was thinking, plus I'm wondering if she's even actually living there, or just filming for the show. If it's just for the show, that would support the 1-2 month lease theory. I have no idea what the Bellas are paid, so I did a Google search on them and both twins appear to have a net worth of $4-6 million dollars.
  5. I notice a huge chunk of this discussion is about the Christmas episode. Somebody get a note to Carl Reiner or whoever's involved and maybe next year we can get that colorized episode for Christmas. It's not the greatest episode in the series, but it would be nice to see during the season. And it's a Christmas episode, so it's likely to be colorful! Although all I remember are the Santa suits and the rather bland stage.
  6. Yeah, that's pretty much how I remember it, including the acid reflux excuse. But I also remember later, she or someone associated with her put out that "guide vocal" track idea.
  7. I can't keep up with all the dead people either, especially when they start bringing them back to life!
  8. I just watched the first episode last night, there was a comment that Smith's Cove was thought to contain the remains of ONE semi-intact finger drain. I guess that explains why they weren't looking for the others this season when they found the one (supposedly). I don't know how they came to the conclusion that the others were gone, or that the one left was only semi-intact, but that's what they said. This season is the first season I've watched, so I'm probably behind on a lot of stuff. I'll probably be watching all the back episodes over the coming weeks or months.
  9. You're right. I can't keep up with all these sheriffs.
  10. "Too much of a good thing.... is wonderful!". This is going back to the 70s, but two other people I didn't know were gay: Elton John and Freddie Mercury. Freddie Mercury certainly didn't seem to hide it, but I seriously thought it was a joke, like Monty Python dressing up as old ladies. The ballet costumes, the band name Queen, the "Yoo-hoo, yoo-hoo" backup vocals. I thought it was funny, intentionally.
  11. It's been more than a minute. But yeah, the band played the wrong vocal track, and she was accused of lip-syncing. IIRC, later on, one of her explanations was that it wasn't for lip-syncing, it was a track for her to sing with. Whether that was the truth or not, I have no idea. But the practice of singing with a pre-recorded vocal track was not so common back then, so she caught a lot of flak. If that had happened today, probably no one would bat an eye. You misspelled hypocrisy, 🙂
  12. Veronica's personality is kind of flirty anyway though. I remember awhile back she walked in on Sheriff Minetta working out, and she was kind of eyeing him and said "Look out, Archie Andrews". Lol, as if Archie was the only guy to ever pick up a pair of weights.
  13. I agree Penny has never been fat. I think there were times in the middle seasons where she looked a little bloated, for whatever reason, mostly in the face. Which may be where some of the "fat" talk came from.
  14. I would think Sheldon's old bed would still be there. I think Leonard needed to get out of the apartment altogether to get any rest, because Penny was determined to have sex with him (to decrease his sample's odds of success). Are Amy and Sheldon sleeping on Penny's old bed? Maybe someone more observant than I could answer.
  15. I used to love all of the old Caveman commercials. I liked the one where the Cavemen were at a party, and one of them says "Tina is here, we're getting back together". Just because it's so random. This isn't really a favorite commercial, but I can't stop watching it every time the Burger King "Losing his marbles" comes on. It distracts me because the girl talks with her eyes closed, and when the king drops the marbles, she covers her entire face with her hand while she's laughing. Just strikes me as odd. And the boy says "I think he's lost his marbles" while the King makes some stupid gesture. I've always liked that bizarre Burger King character though. I really liked that one where he was watching the guy sleep through the window. They went out of their way to make him creepy, it was pretty funny.
  16. I was actually hoping that Dr. Sturgis was right about the math problem. Surely Sheldon can't be right about everything. By the way, I really like the relationship between him and Meemaw, they're cute together. It's one of my favorite parts of the show. About the part where Mary was visiting the shut in guy: I really thought that after her complaints about the mess, he was going to spend the weekend cleaning up his house, and end up overexerting himself and having a heart attack. Fortunately for Mary, that wasn't the case lol.
  17. It's impressive how that girl keeps such a flat stomach though. And I remember comments from some earlier seasons that she was getting fat.
  18. Funny, I kept thinking that she reminded me of someone too, I think you're right about Evangeline Lilly. I guess I'm old and out of touch, but I couldn't figure out why this person "Halsey" rated being both a host and musical guest. I have to say she did a good job though, even though I thought the episode overall was weak. I came here specifically to comment that I liked how she did the painting and singing at the same time. I don't think I've ever seen that before. And I see several other people liked that segment also. I could be wrong, but I thought at the end there, it sounded like there was a bit of second vocal track there that she forgot to sing with. Supposedly this is what happened with Ashley Simpson that everyone made such a huge fuss over. But this sort of thing is becoming increasingly common, having a prerecorded vocal track to sing with - makes the vocal sound thicker and can create some alternate effects. I know some people don't like it, but that's the way modern music is done these days, there's a lot of technology at play. To be honest, even though I prefer older music, it doesn't bother me. Now maybe there was no extra vocal track, it could have been a backup singer - we couldn't see the band (if there was one) during the performance. Weekend Update made me laugh a few times, but I can't remember which jokes they were. Usually it's not my favorite part of the show, because it follows such a predictable routine. I like to watch Riverdale as a guilty pleasure, so I kind of enjoyed that sketch, even though it didn't really have anything to do with the show. Other than that, nothing really memorable.
  19. Obviously I was talking about random drug testing. Recreational marijuana is legal now in California, but as far as I know that doesn't mean an employer has to allow use of it, especially if they think it could have a negative effect on an employee's judgement, and especially in a a place like a surgical hospital. I'm not saying that it would have an effect on a doctor's judgement, but I'm sure there are people who think it does. Also, if there is a lawsuit, a doctor having drugs in their system might look bad.
  20. Wow, that's pretty good money. No wonder he's so snooty 🙂
  21. Let's face it, the real money maker here is the TV show.
  22. The whole face transplant story was very touching. Glassman was more pleasant this episode, although he still took time out from being stoned to yell at the Uber driver, who was much more helpful than she needed to be. It was nice that he apologized to his old classmate, but the fact that he wrote that in her yearbook in the first place shows that he was a dick even then. Apparently they don't do drug testing at St. Bonaventure Hospital. Otherwise Shawn could be in trouble. Next episode looks interesting, a new chief of surgery who isn't sympathetic to Shawn's quirks.
  23. I guess I'm not the only one then who thinks that the markings on the 3d model look nothing like the markings on the real stone? On the model they look like runes, and on the stone it looks like lines.
  24. The thing that strikes me about Elsa is how cheerful she is. Even after everything that's happened, and with her marriage falling apart, she's happily going about getting breakfast or whatever she's doing, smiling and having a ball. She seems almost obliviously happy until Doug reminds her that everything isn't okay. Then she looks hurt and shocked for a few minutes before reverting to her happy little self.
  25. That's what I was thinking! They need to send Iris after Cicada. Apparently his weakness is pepper spray. They could have wrapped this case up three months ago.
