  1. As I said before, I know marriages like this. Specifically, I know a guy whose wife doles out money to him piecemeal every time he needs to go buy anything, even a pack of chewing gum. And he makes more money than she does. Ordinarily, I would say this is unfair, but he is VERY impulsive, and I don't find it hard to believe that he can't be trusted with the money. I couldn't live that way, but it works for them, and that's all that matters. I actually admire that he has the good sense to allow her to control the money. As for Howard, haven't they said before that Bernadette gives him an allowance?
  2. I had to look it up, but his name is Dann, played by Mike Henry. Those scenes from last season (I think it was) when he kept running into Ed and Kelly in the elevator, what a scream.
  3. Wouldn't surprise me, but I'm sure there are some common themes. For instance, Beverly said last night that she knew she wasn't the warmest of people. And remember, Leonard's father used to have to borrow his hugging machine. I don't think Bev is giving out a lot of love to anybody. There's Sheldon, but they both know they have limitations on their intimacy.
  4. See my post three posts above yours, I thought the same thing. It was hard not to, when Leonard was saying this was his childhood, "word for word". It makes sense too, that Sheldon would buy a book written by Beverly, since he admires her so.
  5. I'm not going anywhere with it, just stating a fact. Many autistic people are not high functioning enough to hold down a job but are actually gravely disabled. Those are not simply cases of being held back by the attitude and misunderstandings of neurotypicals. Obviously Shaun is very high functioning.
  6. The editing there wasn't quite fair. They made it look like Gordon went directly from Talla's office to the shuttle bay. I thought he was going to force Orrin to reveal his plan, but I didn't realize he had already informed Ed, and that Ed was in on it. Gordon looks like he's the focus of the next episode also. Hardly any comedy in this week at all, makes me wonder if they're every going to just drop it altogether at some point. I love that guy with the spots all over his face though, the one discussing the casual Fridays, he cracks me up every time.
  7. Yeah, it's not that violin is harder than piano, but it is probably harder to start out on. Sounded like most of Sheldon's problem was with working the bow, which requires a certain touch and takes a little while to get used to. As opposed to piano, where you just plunk a key and a note sounds. Kind of a sad story with the miscarriage, a little more drama than we're used to seeing here. But it was nice to see Sheldon not acting so pompous this week.
  8. I kind of thought it was sweet also, not sure why. I also expected it to turn out that the book Sheldon had was written by Beverly Hofstadter. Also, IMO Beverly's other kids surely have to have some issues with her. For all we know, she talks up Leonard in their presence. I get the impression that Bernadette controls the finances in the house. Howard has been shown to be somewhat impulsive in his spending. I've known married couples like this, where the wife controls the money, because the husband cant' be trusted with it. Remember, Howard lived all those years with his mother, so he may not have had to live with a budget.
  9. I agree that Shaun is being discriminated against, but there are a lot of autistic people out there who are nowhere near as high functioning as he is, but actually are gravely disabled. I've asked several times if he could transfer to another hospital. He'd probably just end up fighting against the same issues wherever he went though.
  10. I kept thinking "Really? This subplot is still part of the storyline?". I would have expected that to be dead with the last episode. I see this as another example that Andrea is just too into her own sexuality.
  11. I was actually kind of worried he was going to stab Dr. Han with something from his desk there for a minute. That would only compound his problems. And next week it looks like he gets into a bar fight.
  12. While we're on the subject (sort of), could someone explain to me how a residency works? Is this considered employment or part of his education? I notice St. Bonaventure is a teaching hospital. Since Dr. Murphy is already a doctor, apparently he already has his phD. So completing a residency entitles him to what, exactly?
  13. Maybe Dr. Glassman will save the day by barging into Dr. Han's office and demand he reinstate Shaun as a surgeon by blackmailing him! If he's not too busy berating food workers, that is. Although yes, in this case, it was pretty clear when he was telling the guy at the counter "I'm tired of waiting!", it was really about his lab results. That had all the subtlety of being hit on the head with a hammer.
  14. Ha, reminds me of me with Maya Rudolph. I never liked her or even found her at all appealing until one night on the show, she did this little hip shaking dance. I've been strangely attracted to her ever since. 🙂
  15. So it sounds like any legal issues are strictly linked to disability then. Interesting that Shaun has more protections than a normal person would, if that normal person wasn't very good at communicating.
  16. Here's what irritated me about this last episode: The announcer said at the end that the dye coming out at Smith's Cove proved that there were man made flood tunnels into the Money Pit. Just because there is a route for water to reach from the Pit to the Cove doesn't prove that it is man made. It could be (and maybe more likely is) natural. Nice point on the Oak Island Tours sign. Between the TV show and the tours, they should be getting something back on their investment. By the way, I'm assuming that Marty is the brother with most of the money. He supposedly owned (or owns?) an oil business, while Rick was a postal worker. I get the idea that Rick has the Oak Island dreams, and brother Marty is financing it. Unless they just come from a rich family and Rick inherited a substantial amount.
  17. Chess, hmm... Or maybe in this case, 3D Chess.
  18. If Rhain was some sort of stealth bitch, we'd never know it, because we've barely seen any of her interactions with the family. Mostly they just show shots of her showing that Joker smile she has (hmm, that could be a bad sign now that I think of it). Bird needs to try to get along though, anyway. I expect she'll come around. Maybe they'll end up best of friends, after all here's another girl around her age to talk to.
  19. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't understand: What is illegal about it? Are you saying an employer can't legally transfer someone to a different department? Because that seems unlikely. Does it have something to do with being a resident (because I have no idea how that works)? Or is just because he has autism and it's a discrimination issue?
  20. I definitely think he needs to get a lawyer, and will probably have to, unless the blackmailing Dr. Han does something to self destruct. Besides, he's served his purpose, he got the quarantine doctors off, he may as well leave now. If he did see them, I just don't think he cares. He's more interested in medical mysteries than social interactions. I'm not sure that's quite fair. If you forget about his issue with Sean, I think he's been a pretty effective leader. He's flawed, but it's not like he's completely ignorant or incompetent.
  21. It really bugs me that there were all these implied issues with Rhain being there, but we were showed none of it, aside from Bird's comments. It does seem apparent that Bird resents the attention Noah has been giving his new wife. Creepiness aside, that is probably not that unusual, considering that they were once very close. The fact that they were raised in some semblance of isolation probably contributes (I don't think anyone disputes that they are home schooled, for instance). They've been in their own little world, to some extent. You can tell No-uh is in the honeymoon phase of his marriage/relationship with Rhain. Watching him push himself to work out to be a "better man" for his wife - hormones can be a wonderful driving force.
  22. I definitely wouldn't call it a spoof, and I get your point. That said, IMO this show is more like The Next Generation than any other Star Trek series I've seen. You could put the Orville into the TNG universe and it would fit almost seamlessly, if you took out most of the adolescent humor, and ignored the lack of transporters.
  23. Well, I still like the show. It's never been my favorite, but it's on my watch list. I just find all the movie and TV show references distracting, they take me out of the story. I know the real Adam Goldberg liked movies, but it ends up being a bit much. How many times do you watch a movie or TV show, and say "Hey, let's act out the plot of that in our real lives"?
  24. Yeah, but it's just wearing thin at this point. It's starting to come off like a parody of itself. Perfect Strangers?
