  1. I don't have any recent information but I remember when Mulholland Drive came out he filmed it on digital and said he would never do film again because he loved the qualities of digital (not a quote but plasticity, quick turn around).
  2. Perhaps you are right, when we catch up to that scene I'll look more carefully. I kind of like the ambiguity, though..... :-(
  3. I like that it always leans towards the left because if you rotated it would always be leaning to the right.
  4. Waited until I had time to watch this again and had a thought about the Liane storyline, which I think is kind of dumb, but it makes a lot more sense if Otherwise why threaten Veronica to get rid of Liane and why now? also, why didn't Keith go for the safe deposit box? Really, Dohring should have gone with a swimmer or martial arts workout, he looks much nicer with his head a proportionate size to his upper body. I agree that he is relaxing a lot towards Veronica, and since I think he is bullying her to get her attention, as long as he can get her attention he is fine. She's lucky her pigtails are so short. I liked the part where she investigates Rebecca and Keith has also investigated Troy, but he doesn't use it until he needs to make a point.
  5. The glare of the secondhand embarassment was blinding.
  6. It is clearly a complex relationship and it is too bad Jacoby is out of the business, there is a good book in it.
  7. I don't think being a spy precludes genuine feelings, he could have been recruited after he developed the friendships, because he is also a partisan. You may well be correct about why he was written in, it is an excellent point and may forshadow the dynamics of the fourth season.
  8. That is exactly what I saw!
  9. It would turn out to be owl pellets from evil giant owls that subsist on gigantic, bloated, mouth climbing frog flies......
  10. So, is Justin a spy for Carey, a spy for Chase, or just a zombie who reevaluated his priorities?
  11. Her sexual walk is exaggerated and they don't have to dress female fbi agents that way, but the general effect is something I would expect in a lynch movie. She moves like a stylized femme fatale lounge singer. I think she moves like she is moving at a different frame speed than the rest of the frame, if that makes sense. Just slightly off.( Maybe she is a messenger from one of the lodges.) I just read Mark Frost's novel and she is central to that, you would even think she'd have more to say about the mystery and may have a bigger part once they hit twin peaks. I liked the bit when she is comparing the fingerprints and it seems like she was drawn to cooper/the work and when Gordon is sneaking a cigarette with Diane I though the look of awkward embarassment was priceless, so there is hope for her. I hadn't realized I was that attached to Jerry, but I find myself really worried about him. Gosh, Ben, send someone to look for him. Also Jerry looks like someone who would cut off his leg to escape a trap. Lynch did film Dune after all. More of an animal than an actual human being.... Diane was looking nervously to her phone on the plane, too, so she must have been expecting something from him. Working for evil Cooper would give anyone PTSD, but perhaps she's like Laura, not evil but abused and somehow held under his power. The black lodge pit rot looks horrible. and WTF, Johnny.
  12. I should probably have said "Delaney, Le Guin and Sturgeon", all can be argued to be science fiction writers. Ellison really does fall into something you could call 'speculative fiction', science is not necessarily involved but you are still in the ghetto and like Asimov and Clarke a futurist. Asimov and Clarke were two of the first writers I read but I can't reread them, now, and when I think about their work I remember the nonfiction fondly and only odd bits of the fiction. I tried to reread Tales of the White Hart a while ago and just no. I might reread the End of Eternity again, but I'm not sure why. Maybe, for no reason, the Lucky Starr books. The stuff Clarke wrote about oceans. Heinlein I didn't read until later--probably mid to late teens. He is an incredible story teller, I used to have a rant about Time Enough for Love that involved the number of adventure novel ideas are thrown away in the middle of the large, rambling blowhard book. I think Ellison is one of the best, possibly the best, story writer of his period and I hope at some point someone pulls him out of the ghetto. Yeah, the Harlan Ellison Show was always something else, too.
  13. That makes sense, he seems to think he's adorable and she could probably use some relaxing sex. I wonder if the heartbeat is enough to sustain a reasonable erection? No Ellison, LeGuin and Sturgeon?
  14. Zombies were created with technology from an advanced civilization? Wow :-) My hope for the next season, shuffling of society aside, is one I don't think is going to happen. I was thinking about the first season. Liv is initially depressed and finds a new direction, some new friends and a new purpose. She did some badass things, but only borrowing these things from the brains of others, and so it has continued. This past season she seemed to be hardly an actor at all in the whole affair. I'm afraid if she doesn't go to cop school, take a level of merc training, start to actually take an active part in the research for her cure, she will just end up being a pretty passive female character whose main plot is her love affairs. If nothing else, with Chase and Major it is a lot easier to give them the guns and the action. And so on. I'm sure the real estate market will tank to some extent and a lot of businesses will fold. Zombies seem to not only need brains, they want them, crave them, really, so I'd say a lot.
  15. I think sticking your butt out of the car would make her lose control of her boobs.
  16. I was also thinking of the zombies from "The Serpent and the Rainbow", book and movie, held in a zombie state by a drug that mimics death and rebirth and their own belief that they deserve this state (to really oversimplify). It isn't hard to believe that Utopium might be a kind of synthetic datura, I suppose. Ravi is doomed, I fear, if he is trying to cure a magical ailment by physical means. And the zombie mercs are sure burning more than 1600 calories a day :-)
  17. I had a cup from a film marathon once "young enough to stay awake, old enough to know better:....
  18. I look forward to someday seeing this straight through (with bathroom breaks) in a theater.
  19. I don't know, that would make Zombism magic. Energy has to come from somewhere. Well, What the hell Yes, I hope FG has managed to off set this in some way, but they haven't had a whole lot of years. Somewhere (wheres) someone is mashing and packaging brains, though, in a factory setting. I think brains are probably hard to get for them but they would be really stupid not to put some away for the big reveal. It wouldn't be making them actual money, though. Oopsie. a film of romero zombie will cure them of that. Hi, I'm so and so and this is my brain on brains and this is what happens when I'm not on brains. Yikes. Send more paramedics!
  20. A lot happens in this episode, really a lot. Whenever I see these flashbacks I hear music, specifically "Misty watercolored mem'ries of the way we were" (cue orchestra). It is really annoying. I think Lilly is so perfect here because Veronica is fixing her friend (and those times) in her memory as perfect, not that Lilly didn't look like that, but she probably wasn't absolutely wonderful, and I think there are hints of that later. I keep on thinking how different it would all look if everyone in the limo looked the age they were supposed to be. Lilly and Logan's confident sexual front would seem to smack of way early sexualization, even suggest one or the other was ... well, I think the general impression would be different and maybe less savoury. My other thought for the episode is that, in my humble opinion, the main struggle Veronica has is her little blond girl desire to please people (read the patriarchal society, too) as opposed to her alpha jerk personality that demands people clear out of her way (I think by the movie small blonde girl is a goner). So in the flashbacks she's pleasing Liane, and like little girls often do, pleasing her dad by trying to be like her mom ( hooked up with the Kanes and dressing in that quaint retro way) but now in the present her mother has run off and she's pleasing her Dad for real, and doing a much better job of it because Keith and Veronica are soulmates (or at least originally started out as the same exact character, they always think alike). In the first season I think their similarities are emphasized and they do communicate as equals, but I don't think it is sexual. I think there are hints that Lilly saw the real Veronica and that Logan and Duncan really didn't have a clue.
  21. Some recent award show Kristen Bell was quoted as preparing to wear the dress she was wearing by duct taping her nipples to her shoulders. I wonder if this episode was where she learned that trick?
  22. I'm betting FG is already doing this and processing and freezing the brain tubes against "D Day", or at least they would if they had any sense, as well as accustoming people to eat the amount of brains they need, not the amount of brains they want. All of a person's food budget couldn't go to brains, Liv and they people at the bar are eating other food regularly and probably need calories.
  23. I think that is exactly what he can't do now, or people will bomb the island for sure. Now there are the new Zombies to take care of, they need brains, if they lay waste to the Northwest the island zombies will be tarred with the same brush. FG needs to help feed and maintain order in the city. Chase seems to be pretty pro zombie. A real mensch would have found the well liked Major a desk job. Has it ever been explained why 'the chaos killer' is so well liked by Zombies? No one wants to eradicate humans, they're delicious.
  24. Did I hear somewhere that the Seahawks leave Seattle? there's some fundamental, traumatic change. I assume the city is mostly going to continue running, courtesy of Baracus, etc, I don't expect it will become the Walking Dead. I doubt Ravi discovered the cure, but he discovered a vaccination (and remember, if you are vaccinated and find out you have cancer the next month....)
  25. If the cure comes forth before the end of the show Liv won't want to be cured because of love interest.
