  1. So you seem to have a lot of disdain for everyone involved, what are you getting out of watching this show? Not attacking, genuinely curious.
  2. I think Slash from Gn’R had a quote in an old magazine story I’ll always remember. He was concerned that if one person from the 80s Sunset Strip rock scene was diagnosed with HIV, then everyone would be at risk since they all slept with the same groupies. Then factor in folks who were injecting drugs, and yikes! 😬
  3. Right, Anna was hired for Guess because she had a Jayne Mansfield throwback look. The 90s modeling world in general was not friendly to her body type. She modeled for more kitschy lines like Heatherette, and then Pam had Iceberg Jeans ads in the early 00s. I’d imagine had she been famous in the 2020s, she might become a Fenty model, or something.
  4. I just discovered the Hulu documentary series “Dark Side of the 90s”-highly recommend, Jason Priestley, Chuck Rosin, and Gabrielle Carteris are on the TV for Teens episode, mostly focusing on the rise of the Fox network.
  5. I did. It has its own thread. I learned lots of new troubling info, but can’t say I was shocked.
  6. There’s a Hulu documentary series called “Dark Side of the 90s” and episode 6 is on Baywatch. Pam, Tommy, and the tape get a good chunk of time. Other episode topics include daytime TV talk shows, The Viper Room, Supermodels, Cults, all the “low culture” I love.😊
  7. An excellent documentary series “We Need to Talk About Cosby” came out on Showtime last month, and a good part of an episode is devoted to his partying at the Playboy mansion.
  8. I’m only halfway through and Marian’s wardrobe is excellent tonight.😍
  9. Midge’s black dress with the navy bows in S4 ep 5 is amazing to me as a minimalist. I love it so much!
  10. I figured Brandon Lee from The Crow would be the most apt comparison since that had only come out a few years earlier. I always preferred Nikki Sixx over Tommy, I met Nikki at a book signing for “This is Gonna Hurt”.🥰 14-year-old me’s list of potential rock star husbands was 1)Slash 2) Nikki Sixx 3) Blas Elias of Slaughter 4) maybe Rachel Bolan of Skid Row? I never liked Bon Jovi, he was just too generically handsome and smiley and corporate for my tastes- the Tom Cruise of rock music. When they switched over to “adult rock” like “It’s My Life” I thought - yeah, that’s about right.
  11. Yes, it was in the reality-tv friendly Palms Hotel, it opened in 2006 and closed in 2012. Wikpedia
  12. Marian wears a lot of light blue too, it always reminds me of Disney’s Cinderella. Definitely bringing sunshine and light into that house. Bertha’s got some amazing looks but she reminds me of that passage in “The Age of Innocence” about how the old money women put away their new Parisian gowns for a couple seasons but Beaufort’s mistresses wore theirs right off the “runway”.
  13. I was born in 1977, so I was right on the cusp of being really into later “hair-band” music- Hysteria-era Def Leppard, Gn’R, Skid Row, Dr. Feelgood-era Mötley, Slaughter, Trixter in 6th-9th grade, and then discovering Nirvana on local college radio and getting really into all those bands- Alice In Chains, STP, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden. Even by ‘92 most of the hair-band guys had gotten haircuts and they had been dressing down since G N’R made makeup and spandex hopelessly passé. It was a little funny to see the older guys suddenly in Converse, flannel, and Docs. But yeah 1996 was already very much post-grunge/Seattle sound with Weezer, Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Oasis, Blur, etc. (lots of “cool-Britannia” bands) being huge, and then Tommy hopped on the Nu-metal train in 1999.
  14. It had to be done for drama. I feel like it would have been all over the tabloids like Britney with the umbrella.
  15. She’s the other major blonde bombshell of the early 90s hair band world, best known for starring in Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” video and marrying Jani Lane. She started out representing Louisiana in Miss Teen USA and was a Star Search spokesmodel. She was on an “Ex-Wives of Rock” reality show about 10 years ago and would show up on VH1 quite a bit when they did those “I Love the 80s/90s” shows. She had a podcast recently. I was surprised Tommy didn’t mention her when he name-checked Carmen Electra and Jenna Jameson in his episode 2 list of women Pam outshined.
  16. Has anyone else read Bobbie Brown’s book “Dirty Rocker Boys”? Apparently she was dating Tommy at the time he met and married Pam, and had a lot to say about the whole situation. Also, I totally thought all this was taking place in 1997 instead of 1995 because I associate Tommy’s stomach tatt with “Nu-metal Tommy” and Methods of Mayhem didn’t come out until 1999.
  17. I restarted Hulu specifically for this show, and it’s quite good. I became a Mötley Crüe fan around the Dr. Feelgood era and discovered Pam and Playboy due to them so this is totally in my wheelhouse. I wasn’t really into Baywatch after it left NBC, but I watched VIP every week. It’s weird to see “history” from your high school years. I think Rand’s background and story is pertinent because the tape really did contribute to the mainstreaming and shift to “big business” of the adult industry and its aesthetic in general. His need for “karma” ended up creating a huge cultural shift. Watched ep 4 last night- I had no idea “that” Anthony Pellicano was involved. Lily James is doing great work as Pam, I understood her feeling violated and her view that her reputation would suffer greater harm than Tommy’s, but also Tommy wasn’t exactly “wrong” that the public had already seen her nude and at that time would have a certain perception of her.
  18. I was thinking Tia Carrere for adult Lottie.
  19. I like that Misty’s wearing the modern adult version of Brenda and Kelly’s BH:90210 Spring Dance dress. 😂 I feel like she would have been a fellow 90210 fan. Her long game was actually brilliant so as not to need to dispose of another body. Her former hostage has been missing for weeks though, right? I wonder how no one noticed? So that was…satisfying. I was really worried for Nat towards the end with the show being as gory as it is, but I guess JL has a contract. It was fitting with the LoTF/neo-primitivism theme that Jackie would find herself banished, apparently that was punishment pre-written laws/courts/etc. Jeff and Shauna really bonded now that they’re not bored anymore, huh? Taissa definitely has the same evil smile as after her speech. Not sure if she consciously knows what she’s doing though.
  20. These were the other two arrested. I vaguely remember Mitchell since the thicker guys tend to stand out. Other two arrests
  21. On a shallow note, why does Monica’s hair always look so bad- like a bad home dye job, plus dry and uneven? She looked so pretty with it done in the DWTS clip. I also hate the flat super black color Gabi and Kailee were rocking- ladies you are not Kardashians- but Monica should have the money to do better. She needs to move past the 90s French mani too for that matter.
  22. I do wonder how/ if girl code applies when Travis is “the last man on earth” in this situation. I mean Ginger and Mary Ann vied over the professor, but they still had Gilligan, the Captain and various guest stars.
  23. True, but “The Wilds” girls were on a beach/deserted island setup iirc, the Yellowjackets have a cabin built for long-term habitation and plenty of shade trees. I agree the clothes should be more worn out.
  24. Whoa, was not expecting all that with the almost orgy turned hunt. I guess hunger and ‘shrooms contributed to mass psychosis. Jackie became into a nihilist real quick since the previous episode. I loved all the dresses the girls wore. They still have a lot to cover baiting us with “what happened in the woods” and good to know there was at least one book published about the girls.
  25. I think their choice of women makes sense for the lifestyle they were living. A woman with a 9-5 job can’t party all night or join them on tour.
