  1. Oh, yeah, they're all by Mike Nichols. But he had other themes too. Such as Working Girl. The cancerous rot at the heart of American capitalism. LOL.
  2. There were two times tonight where they went back and rescored. How does that work? In both cases, someone else had given the correct response, but they don't lose their points. I've never understood this. That last FJ was an easy theater question. I was surprised James did not know it. Too bad Victoria didn't bet more.
  3. Beautiful trees! My experience is that many handles are interchangeable.
  4. I’m so curious! Is the technique really different?
  5. I've got Duck Duck Go on my desktop computers (home and office) and my ipad. It's been a breeze on this site since I installed them. Duck Duck Go was recommended by others here. Is that what you had before?
  6. Lorre is doing much better by this show than Bob Hearts Abishola. The BHA finale earlier this week went out like a whimper.
  7. Yeah, Missy was feeling all the feels. She just crumpled. Good job by this young actress.
  8. Apropos of absolutely nothing in this episode, I just want to note that I always confuse Billy Crudup and Hugh Dancy. I guess Claire Danes does too, because she dated one and married the other . . .
  9. Coming back here to discuss prior bad acts evidence. Last night on Law and Order they had a textbook example of a proper use of it. They had a perp who carved his initial into his victims’ legs. The defense was trying to allege that the victim’s boyfriend killed her, so the mark from the prior victim could be used to refute that by identifying the defendant's MO.
  10. Now that’s how you use prior bad act evidence! (This was discussed in another thread last week regarding the reversal of the Harvey Weinstein conviction.) The judge was ridiculous in buying that he wasn’t sure it was an S. It was a shame they went with the victim’s suicide attempt. Also a shame that they took till the end of the episode to figure out they had that evidence.
  11. Since posting this, I let something burn in my small sauce pain. It was covered with black ash. I sprayed with some easy off oven cleaner and put it outside for a while (to avoid the fumes), then the burned stuff came right off. Otherwise, I usually just soak and clean with scrub brush or steel wool if really heavy coat of fond. You can only put the oven cleaner on the stainless steel parts, not the aluminum. So sorry to hear about your two friends. I know people who have attempted suicide and continue struggling. I know others who have succeeded in taking their lives. It is just sad.
  12. FWIW at this late stage, I want to say that Ken Jennings was born to be the successor host of Jeopardy. How could there have been any question? He is doing a great job. Yay, Victoria! (I did not get FJ . . .)
  13. I knew regulator because I took a scuba diving lesson once. Hated it. I got handkerchief ‘cause I’m a fashion fan. I know about the knitting show Victoria referenced, but I have not watched it yet.
  14. BTW, Josh Lucas and Christian Slater now look like they were separated at birth. I was watching the silly Netflix Pop-Tart movie (the Seinfeld movie) over the weekend, and I kept thinking Christian Slater was Josh Lucas.
  15. I have to think so too, otherwise, this is the most existential ending of any show ever. Only Robert knows that Carol Burnett switched identities, so that secret would be lost to history. He's probably not dead. Maybe he had a NASA medal in his astronaut suit, which blocked the bullet.
  16. This is one of those episodes where I noped out less than halfway through. Too much boring chaos.
  17. Huh? Is that all there is? Are they setting this up for a second season?
  18. Thanks, everyone. I’ll call Carmen an Instaguess for me, then, as I thought of it right away and “knew” it had to be the answer. This is the type of clue I’ve always enjoyed, where the writers come up with an obscure factoid for something very well known, so even if you don’t know the link you “know” the answer.
  19. Instaguess--I like that! My laugh reaction is for @shapeshifter's black light poster.
  20. So many TSs today! And I failed to get most of them. I got FJ because they used mantilla in the clue. I had never heard of the novella. It's the only character I could think of who'd wear a mantilla. Do we have a name for this type of clue, where you can make the educated guess?
  21. Wait--what!? I've never had that experience. Cut flowers or in the garden? I love peonies. Wait--what!? I've never had that experience. Cut flowers or in the garden? I love peonies. Wait--what!? I've never had that experience. Cut flowers or in the garden? I love peonies.
  22. I'm not "apoplectic," just not used to it yet. I watched for so many years not even knowing it was allowed to go in a different order. I thought it was part of the rules.
  23. I don't know what to make of that Carrie Fisher audition. She does sound a bit like Debbie and a bit British. I have no idea why she would be chosen based on those scenes. She had no oomph or urgency to her entreaty. As in "help us Obi-Wan-Kenobi, you're our only hope." Not having seen any of this, the next day I watched Carnival Story on Watch TCM. That was one of the worst prints I've ever seen. Too bad, because it's a good noir feature. Anne Baxter and Steve Cochran meet cute: She picks the pocket of his loud suit (now we know where they got the idea for Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid). Notable appearances: a Tor Johnson lookalike and the husband's wacky bathing suit.
