  1. That may be the single best photo of Rod Serling I've ever seen! He's relaxed, happy, healthy and handsome - and clearly enjoying the time with his daughter. Thanks for posting!
  2. CherryMalotte, how great to see you again! Thank you for posting that video; it reminded me of how terrific that final collection was. Yes, it was cohesive, but it also had something for every figure type. It was elegant and cutting edge. I loved the colors, the silhouettes, everything! Too bad the so-called 'fashion-forward' minded judges were so squeamish about his use of human hair. I mean, it isn't as if he scalped anyone to get it! Even people who won't wear leather or fur because of animal cruelty don't clutch their pearls over wool and other fabrics made from animal contributions. Ah well. It was a very competitive season - though a classy one. Remember when Jillian, who'd lost a challenge everyone expected her to win, shrugging it off and saying "I have honest eyes. There's room for everyone here to excel." I already miss Chris March. He should still be in the world with us. And Meryl Streep shouldn't have let anyone else dress her for events!
  3. He was one of my all time favorites, too. The sense of humor, the go for broke spirit, the patience and affection he showed the other contestants. I’m glad he got some mainstream success in his short life. He made Meryl Streep look more elegant and beautiful than she ever did before. I’ll never forget the moment in All Stars when, upon being aufed he was assured by one of the judges that he was a very talented designer. ”I know, “ he said with quiet confidence. And we did too.
  4. When Arya called him by his real name - which no one generally did - and thanked him, my heart jumped a beat. I loved that he knew he was doomed, in many ways, and that he'd given up on life long ago, but he cared enough for Arya to warn her against following his path. I also loved the final dialogues between Tyrion and Jaime: "I wouldn't have survived my childhood without you." "You would have." "No... you were the only one who didn't treat me like a monster. You were all I had..." and between Tyrion and Varys. the way Tyrion took responsibility for telling Dany what Varys was doing, and Varys clearly holding no ill will, and his final "Goodbye, my old friend." Weeping again.
  5. And... the Emperor continues to Have No Clothes.
  6. I've been watching but I haven't seen this week's episodes yet. I'm getting the feeling maybe I should skip this one?
  7. Well, as Drogo said, I did get to watch Judy Greer do the kind of subtle work her comedy roles don't always allow, and Michael Shannon was reliably strange yet compelling.
  8. Will somebody please tell me what the heck this story was about? Was he real? Was she? Is he some sort of supernatural being juggling identities, or maybe he's had so many aliases he doesn't know who he really is anymore? Are the Russians f---ing with him? With her? (In which case why?) With us? Why is Nathan's assistant - or whatever he is - a transvestite? Why does he dump 'the pain of [my] life' on this vet nurse and why is he seemingly so uninterested in her after making these elaborate plans to meet, wine and dine, and possibly seduce her?
  9. Poor Arnold. I couldn't get "I only wanted to drink one beer. How did I end up here?" out of my head. I thought it was sweet that Niki/Viki/Kiki, whatever her name was, took the time to tell Arnold's mother that her son was a good man who only died because he tried to help her.
  10. Duncan Hunter won. So did Steve King, but Hunter's win (while under a sixty count indictment) over the Christian opponent he all but accused of being an Islamic terrorist really depressed me. It's easy to dismiss the plight of those poor children and their families if, as many Trumpists routinely do, you find a way of thinking of them as somehow less than actual human beings. The images of children, including babies, being ripped from their parents' arms, will stay with me forever. So will the cages. The weeping. The demonization of entire populations to whip us all into a hate-fueled frenzy that will benefit one subgroup of a political party.... It is to weep, and I'm glad Oliver showed his very real and righteous anger.
  11. I'm really enjoying this show and hope it succeeds. The cast - especially the lovely and talented John Goodman - has never been better in these roles. I think I'm the only one here who wants Darlene and David to get back together. But I do.
  12. I may have lost some of my lifelong respect for Martin Sheen.
  13. I hate the character, an amoral scoundrel whose needless compulsion to complicate things only deepens the tragedy for others, but I also find him oddly fascinating, and I give credit for that to the actor. In crucial moments I am utterly captured by his mastery of stillness. I'd love to see him again in a different sort of role.
  14. Thanks to everyone who brought up the New Yorker story and therefore were able to explain how this horrible woman was able to gain control of the lives of two strangers and ruin them for her own personal gain. What a terrible story - I'd say it was a cautionary tale, but under the stated circumstances, what could that couple have done to protect themselves apart from possibly designating their daughter in health care proxies and powers of attorney, and even there I wonder if the Terrible Ms Parks might have found a way around that.
  15. Ford did say that originally Westworld had a nearly equal number of narratives available that didn't involve violence and sexual assault, but the guests rarely chose them. I really hope Teddy isn't gone from the show. I love James Marsden in the role and have been looking forward to seeing how his consciousness evolves. I love Jeffrey Wright (in so very many things!) but Bernard is just so consistently humorless that it's hard to watch sometimes, even though he certainly has reason. I can't decide of Sizemore is more cockroach or weasel. Either way, I hate to admit it, but I look forward to his continued humiliation and discomfort. Hector's romantic outlaw programming is awesome! He and Maeve smolder together and I love it. But where is Arsenal? For all her alleged hardness, Maeve may be one of the most 'humane' hosts. Her release of the injured whore to 'dreamless sleep' was beautiful. Line of the night may have been Dolores's "Why would I scare you?", delivered with that angelic smile...
  16. When he competed in his first All-Stars, Ken admitted that he'd been totally out of hand in his first PR appearance and had gone into Anger Management therapy. The results were clear and easy to appreciate, IMHO. This season's All-Stars shows that he's still taking those lessions seriously. He's a great advertisement for the efficacy of proper treatment for at least some cases. I also think he's growing as a designer and learning to accept his achievements as real. His partnership with Fabio - one of my all-time favorite designers - was harmonious and productive. I was thrilled with their win, and although I imagine Fabio no longer lives completely as a 'Freegan', I imagine he's never had a dining experience like the one they'll be sharing. I thought Merline and Candice's pairing, which at least one judge said tried for elegance and came close read much more like 'Catfight!'. Oh, well, I'm still learning. Anthony and Kimberly had two beautiful outfits that went together very well, but I didn't see the inspirations. I nearly screamed when Alyssa entered the restaurant in that... thing. Her runway outfit was a great relief after that. Whoopi was a great guest judge - gave constructive criticism, precise praise, and felt no need to score off the competitors. She can come back at any time. As for her 'fashion' credentials, she's worn some stunning and suitable things on numerous runways. I loved Alyssa's gushing over her!
  17. Camels. I think that when it comes to TAR, the camels are always comedy gold. And sometimes their silent commentary on the Racers is spot on.
  18. Charlie, you're overqualified for the job of being Steadman.
  19. I was totally in love with Char's dress - I want to own it. And Char herself seems to be evolving - she seems more mature and attractive. Just as I'm complaining about the designers getting third chances, in walks Fabio (for the third time) and I take it all back because I freaking love that man. At least this time we know he won't lose to Dmitri. I also loved Candice's, Kelly's (great to see "Kelly from the Deli" again!) and liked the two-tone blue used by the veterans. Casanova is a lovely man but I agree that he's never been the best designer. Helen - blonde doesn't really suit you and neither does sulky snarking (or is it snarky sulking?) Ken's anger management treatment really did take root - he's still the Ken who did NOT throw away his second shot with hissy fits and histrionics. He and Anthony are still funny as hell, and could take an act on the road, a la Santino and Austin Scarlett! Alyssa Milano, FIRE YOUR STYLIST NOW! (I'm just trying to look after you). My love for Michael Costello continues to grow, as does his success. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a judge again. I refuse to blame Georgina Chapman for the fact that she married a man who was finally exposed as a horrendous human being. And I've always liked Marchesa's aesthetic. Since this was filmed before the Weinstein revelations, I hope the show doesn't fire her in some sort of guilt by association nonsense.
  20. My sister just got back from five days in Iceland. She rhapsodized about how beautiful the country was, and I can certainly see why! I wanted to love Team Goat Yoga because, well, Goat Yoga. But I can't. I don't really 'get' competitive eating, but I know who Joey Chestnut is. I thought he and his teammate very pleasant and capable. Agree that Team Big Brother already seems to be a huge improvement over Brenchel. Love Team SlamDunk but agree that they have to pick up the pace and not make so many mistakes. Actually, I like just about everyone so far, though Team Goat Yoga has one, two episodes at most to win me back. Phil in the opening credits! My heart leaped almost as much as when he did the now iconic "The world is waiting. Travel safe... GO!"
  21. Bow: Dre, we need to talk... and you can't say a word!
  22. I thought the results were pretty satisfying. All the designers were true to themselves, which makes it easier for them, I think, to accept not-winning. And we really did see four very distinct points of view. Margarita - Exuberant, yes, and lots of fun, but I agree that it was ALL resort wear and not likely to win the top prize. I did love her story about being inspired by her parents' old couch. Brandon - I was already over Brandon, with his sameness challenge after challenge, and wondered what I was missing when the judges kept praising him to the skies. I did think he got a bit smug near the end, but I can't deny I felt for him when he began weeping. I hope he's okay now. Ayana - I love Ayana and everything about her - aesthetic, crafting skills, personality, her own looks - but I understand the second-place finish. They really aren't supposed to judge you on the totality of your work over the season, and her runway show was a little uneven. That being said, her last look was the single best piece on display that day. I also loved her adaptation of the hijabs. I agree that she'll do all right - she made good use of the platform the show gave her, and someone is sure to snatch her up. I hope to be able to buy her clothes one day. (On Etsy the ones that would flatter me are out of my budget.) Kentaro - I like him so much as a person, but I thought he was very uneven throughout the season. However, when it came down to brass tacks, he totally delivered. It was the only true "Runway Show" among the four, startling and intriguing. I also love that the judges finally 'got' someone with a more Asian aesthetic (after most such designers were auf'd rather early in previous seasons). I also wondered why Tim was missing from the coronation. He usually comes out with champagne.
  23. She was supposed to be the 'dark horse' candidate who improves and peaks at the right time. However, the reality was that her 'improvement' came by way of choreography that displayed her 'assets' - lots of shaking of the maracas - and Edyta levels of near-nudity (note - I love Edyta). I thought John O'Hurley was ten times better than Kelly, though the 'rematch' - which he won - really did him no favors, making him look petty.
  24. Would the academy just go ahead and give Evan Peters an Emmy already? That guy is such a chameleon. I don't get why he isn't a more famous star, doing blockbuster films and such. I was furious when he wasn't nominated for his James P. March in "Hotel" - it was his first 'grown-up' role in the franchise and I couldn't get over how well he nailed it. (I was also furious that there was no nomination for Dennis O'Hare that year because his Liz Taylor was a brilliant creation.) I had a couple of episodes earlier that I was not feeling, to the point that I was considering dropping the season, but I'm glad I stayed because these last two episodes have been far better and gotten more into the dynamics of the cult - not the recruitment, but what happens after you have your core membership and what are you going to do next - and Ivy's death was made of solid gold. I agree with those who shed not a tear for her after the way she tormented her supposed love, a woman she knew was fragile. I do miss Wes Bentley, Lily Rabe, Dennis O'Hare and - especially - Kathy Bates. Hope they're all back next season, and/or get roles in Pose or the Feud franchise.
  25. Thank you so much for those excellent clarifications and corrections. I do try to be accurate, so you were a huge help. I got my information from some reading (not enough, clearly), and from exposure to two Orthodox communities. I needed to dig deeper. I did know that only married women need to cover their hair in that matter - some sort of citation comes to mind about the husband being the only one who can see his wife's 'naked' hair, and implications that it is an intimate moment. Thank you again, and I truly hope I didn't offend you, or other Orthodox Jews who read this forum.
