  1. I actually said out loud to the TV "And his name is Kevin."
  2. There's a bakery near me that does a magical creme brule cake. It's layers of cake and custard with a brule'd top. That's the first thing I thought of, and Aristo's cake was soooo not that. It looked like a hot mess, reminiscent of the first dessert he made. And really Andra needs to be gone next. Still rooting for Josh, Stephany still rubs me the wrong way. If it's not already, I'm pretty sure S'Mapples are going to make it onto Josh's restaurant's menu. And I want one. Onward to the next ridiculous challenge!
  3. Just curious, because my memory may be wonky, but when did Kate say she wanted to be a vet? I recall that was her Halloween costume (before she switched to Sandy from Grease). But I don't remember her saying that was her aspiration. I think Rebecca mentioned vet because Kate had seemingly taken ownership of the family dog.
  4. I am glad I am not the only one who felt like Randall is bordering on the "magical Negro", I loved his character the first season but he is grating on me lately. See, I think he *tries* to be that guy, but fails every time. So far his long, touching speeches with Deja have missed the mark every time. William was the "Magical Negro" trope, for sure. Not Randall. He's a huge socially awkward goober who thinks he can touch everyone's lives.
  5. Grocery stores are brutal, man. If there's only one left of anything and you don't take it, you give up all rights to said object. Grocery street rules.
  6. When Toby meets his children for the first time. "Leo was right". Made me burst out crying.
  7. Yes, yes yes. As soon as she made the candy cane flavor comment, I turned to my husband and was like "Shut up, cannon fodder." I was super annoyed that her main dessert actually looked really good (even though it was a little "The more you know!" looking). Loved the adorable guy with the glasses, and looooved his main dessert. So stinkin' cute and I'd totally order it if it was on a restaurant menu. Looks like a kinda promising group.
  8. Was the reunion episode shown out of order? When CJs dad talked about going fishing, he said it was February, but the inauguration hadn't happened yet - which is usually in January.
  9. I wasn't surprised Jasmine won, but I was really hoping Jessica would. She took a huge risk, and it looked like a bit of a hot mess (I would have gone the "it's a pumpkin that sat out too long" route if left with the black fondant - made it look extra gross and just go with it), but her cake was the only one they didn't find fault with. Jasmine's had too much nutmeg (per Lorraine), and Jonathan's tasted like baking soda. The "pina colada" carrot cake is pretty much the King Arthur Flour recipe, only it calls for crushed pineapple and doesn't specify toasted coconut, just regular unsweetened. And it.is.amazing. Also a bitch to make, haha. On to the holidays!
  10. Why didn't Ray make a jalapeno puree if he was going to put it in a mousse? I feel bad, I liked him. I totally want Jonathan's Almond Joy cake. Mr. D and I were salivating over all the preheat dishes.
  11. She's Kara's sister (and a serious badass in her own right!) on Supergirl. :) How long has it been since the last episode? Because Amelia's hair grew back awfully fast...
  12. Well, that was... a thing. Looking forward to returning to our regularly scheduled programming next week. Every box fan I've ever bought comes already assembled. I fully admit, I wasn't paying that much attention, but did I miss something? Was it broken? Yeah, that's all I got, haha.
  13. I love our double sink. I can toss dirty dishes on one side, and set up the colander on the other for when I'm making pasta! I also use one side for soaking, and one for washing (I have one of those wand sponges that holds the soap in the handle, so I just sponge them off and then run the water over to rinse). We do also use a dishwasher, but some stuff needs to be hand washed. Nothing against putting them in, it's the "I NEED them, or it's a dealbreaker/total gut job in the kitchen!" drama, haha. Enjoy your new countertops! :)
  14. I'm watching the show for the first time (what took me so long?!) and I loved this - I kinda wish that whole episode was more of this, haha. And I DIED when Abbey had the band play 'Oh, Canada'.
  15. So, after watching the most recent episode, I realized why it seems too off. I get that they want to do a more “modern” take on it, setting it in a city vs. small town environment. But there’s a few issues I have. There is no urgency. Not in present day, and not in the flashbacks. They just feel like regular flashbacks. But there’s no charm, no playfulness about any of them. About anything really. The setting is too big, and the cast is too small. It’s hard to believe that this one neighborhood in a large city is the “cursed town”. There are no true boundaries, at least none that have been established. Anyone can come and go, there’s no curse stopping them. And the only cast is our main crew. No supporting cast has really been introduced. There’s (again) no sense of playfulness or “tongue in cheek”-ness about who someone is in the cursed life vs. fairy tale. We’re introduced to Tiana, but there’s no reference about who she is or where she came from. No little frog figurines or a touch of green in the wardrobe as sort of subtle teasing. There are no new Grannies or Archies, and without a supporting cast, the main cast is going to get very old, very quickly. I’m still giving it a chance. I am mildly invested. But there is such a disconnect from the rest of the show in feel and style. There is no message of hope, no true urgency, no whimsy. It’s just kinda sad.
  16. From a 1994 movie, The Paper re: sitting outside eating big salads and drinking wine in 1996. I can't tell what they're eating, but yeah. Totally a thing in the 90s. Also, a great movie - I highly recommend it if you like Ron Howard ensemble pieces. As someone born in '78, grew up in the '80s with basic Charlie's Angels knowledge, I had never heard her called Farrah Fawcett-Major until this forum, haha. I've only, in regular conversation, heard her referred to as Farrah Fawcett. Also, it still bugs that Rebecca's mom supposedly lives in Connecticut, but they treat it like she's one or two towns over. That's, like, an 8 hour drive, never mind a snow storm in the mix. As much as I love seeing Pittsburgh get some love on TV, I kinda wish they'd set it in Philadelphia if they were going to play so fast and loose with the geography and the Pgh details.
  17. Same here! Were her eyebrows as... bold last year? Her mid-90s hair looks off, too.
  18. Watching Midcentury vs. Victorian on hulu right now. Gainesville, FL - wife wants Victorian, husband wants midcentury/modern. Is it just me, or is the first house (Victorian) they looked at a B&B? The decor, the kitchen, everything gave off a B&B vibe. It had a front desk for Pete's sake!
  19. Man, me, too! I lived in Michigan and in Pittsburgh late 90s/early 2000s. There was one in a Pittsburgh suburb I would go to all the time. They were, at that point, $2, but still a lot cheaper than first run theatres. If I recall, the concessions were cheaper, too.
  20. Actually, despite all their similarities, This Is Us and Parenthood have different creators/showrunners. Parenthood was created by Jason Katims, who also did Friday Night Lights. This Is Us comes from Dan Fogelman, who did Pitch, Galavant, and The Neighbors. Huh. My bad. I thought remembered before it aired last year the ads were pitching it as "from the people who brought you Parenthood", so I assumed it was the same people here.
  21. Someone mentioned in the latest episode thread something about Randall's weird huge but only 3 bedroom house. I'm not in the market for a house right now, but I like to look at the real estate websites to see what's out there. Currently, there is a house for sale on the lake for almost 2 million dollars. It's pretty big (3800 square feet). Big kitchen, big living room, etc. 3 bedrooms. I was FLOORED. I mean, from the outside, you would have assumed 4 bedrooms, maybe 5. So, I totally buy that Randall's seemingly large house only has 3 dedicated bedrooms and an office.
  22. Same showrunners/creators. So, yeah. It makes sense.
  23. IMO, the true compromise would be for them to become certified foster parents, and do long term foster care for older kids.
  24. I'm rewatching on Hulu, and I had forgotten that she chose a guaranteed spot in the top 4 over a car when she won the quickfire. The ONLY reason she was in Canada was because she took the super easy road. She really gave off a sense of "They're just going to give it to me" entitlement. UGH.
