  1. Do people actually do that? I mean personally, I’ve never seen or done it. I mean I’ve I’m waiting or picking up someone, I either knock, call or text. I know this was set before everyone had a phone but still. I always took it as something done in American shows and films. We had neighbors who (thankfully) moved out a few months ago. I think they ran a restaurant? The kids would come home after school, and around 5, the dad would come home to get them, but he'd just sit there and honk the horn until they came down. Very obnoxious.
  2. To be fair, my husband does the same thing, and it is SUUUUPER annoying, haha.
  3. So, tonight's show had a whole lotta "are they watching me?" moments. I have been dealing with intermittent dizzy spells for MONTHS, had an MRI last month (nothing there, thank God!), and am now waiting to see a neurologist (other factors have me leaning towards "it's not an inner ear thing" but possibly something else). I just bought my husband tickets for a special concert in March as his Valentine's gift - Weird Al! And I am TERRIFIED of driving over bridges. If I'm driving, I hold my breath and clench the steering wheel. If I'm not driving, my eyes are closed and I take deep breaths. This is Us (me), indeed...
  4. When my grandfather died, he was cremated. I'm not sure what happened with the ashes, but there was a cemetery service - he has a grave marker, just no body in the grave. I remember my Dad putting the urn at the base of the tombstone at the end, but not sure where they went from there. So, yeah, some people do have a cemetery for an urn.
  5. Not necessarily, no. I mean, we had upstairs extensions in the late '80s. But based on what we've seen of the Pearsons, they only had one phone. Also, the priority at that point was get the hell out, not call 911.
  6. From what we've seen, there's only one phone in the house, in the kitchen. Chances are, in 1998, they didn't have cellphones. They were just beginning to be somewhat affordable, so chances are they didn't have a cellphone. I'm assuming a neighbor called 911, as they wouldn't have been able to given where they were in the house.
  7. Non-weight related re: Kate's character. When she was watching the video Jack made in yesterday's episode, and Toby asked what song she was singing - she told him she wrote it. Maybe instead of a singing career, she pursues a song writing career? It would still be in the field of music, and writing songs could be therapeutic for her. They probably won't go in that direction, but I think it would be a lovely one for her character to go in.
  8. Do they not know where Pittsburgh is? Is Jack's tree actually somewhere between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia for some reason? There is no way Kevin went from NJ to Pgh in one day by car with there still being any daylight when he returned. Maybe he flew? UUUGGGHH... Pennsylvania is pretty wide - it's approx. 7 hours from one end to the other. I think whoever is in charge of geography forgot which side of the state Pgh is on.
  9. Also, I forgot: BILL IRWIN! Yay! He was the Doctor. It took me a second to place the name (he's getting up there) but he is just great.
  10. Yep, it's there. I don't know if you have to be a paid subscriber to watch the next day - some shows you have to wait a week. It's why I subscribe, haha. But yeah, it's there. I watched it before work this morning.
  11. The almond Snickers are a re-branded Mars bar. So gooood!
  12. I remember a house flipping storyline on Roseanne in the mid-90s. I think they used that word back then, but I'm not 100% sure. OK, thank you! I wasn't sure, I just remember hearing the term/idea as a business later than this. Then again, a lot of those real estate shows weren't a mainstream thing until later, so that makes sense.
  13. Just curious... I had never heard of "house flipping" until around 2005. Not that is wasn't a thing in the 90s, but was that really a term tossed around? Yes, Jack worked in construction, so maybe it was more of an industry term at the time, but it felt like too recent of a term to my ears.
  14. Just wait till the future episode when a distraught Kate tells a Bed Bath and Beyond employee all about why she has to return the crock pot from her wedding registry because a crock pot killed her father. BB&B employee will be an expert on crock pots and explain all the new safety features modern slow cookers have over the ones from 40+ years ago. Kate will return home trusting in slow cookers again and lose weight through meal prep. Maybe she’ll name her next pet Betty. Sorry, gotta be the Debbie Downer nitpicker here, but Betty Crocker has nothing to do with crock pots (aside from having slow cooker recipes). https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/12/what-is-a-crock-pot_n_6443398.html
  15. My theory? Kate is the one who goes back into the house for the dog. Jack goes in to save her, resulting in his death. It explains why she feels such deep guilt about it and has a hard time with getting a dog. When Kate was saying she couldn't take Audio, I was actually yelling at my TV "Get the dog! Take him home!" I'm definitely more of a cat person, but that dog was the absolute cutest thing. My place of employment has a phone number that is very similar to the crock pot help line, we get calls for them almost daily. I'm curious to see if there's an uptick in calls today...
  16. I've been doing another binge re-watch on Hulu, and man... it really does come to a screeching halt when it turns into the Lawrence Fishburn show, doesn't it? I actually checked on IMdB to see how long I have to endure it, haha. I was trying to figure out why I always felt... uncomfortable? Awkward? With the Grissom/Sara romance. It's because I just didn't buy it. We never saw them being a couple. There was a little bit of flirtation, a couple of shots of them outside of the office, but it always felt uncomfortable and forced. It felt like there was a lot of telling us they were a compatible, loving couple, but we were never shown it. I liked both of them individually, but could never really get into them as a couple.
  17. Well, that was fantastic. I binge-watched every season last year, and this was the first episode I was really excited about in a while. I loved the performances, the pace, even the touch of humor with hacker intern using the defib paddles on the blood bank door. I actually laughed out loud at that. It took me a minute (and a google search) to get the title - that was a particularly nice touch. Overall, I am excited to see what happens with the rest of this season. Still "meh/ew no" on Jackson and Maggie, but it was a treat to see him in nothing but a towel for a scene (shallow, yes, but...)
  18. we were kind of suprised - Steve & Aldaberto's tree was lovely, and they found no fault with their cupcakes except they wanted more of the filling. They were doing a play on the Nutcracker - the colors were appropriate for the theme. I got no baby shower vibe from it at all. The winning team had really bad cupcake to frosting ratio (unless you ask my husband, he's a frosting fiend). I can't believe they used a hot glue gun! Use hot sugar or royal icing, haha. The bit about the gingerbread guys wearing sunglasses was sooooo "old married couple", and ending with Duff saying they should wear board shorts or sunglasses was pretty funny. I appreciated that they didn't ding them for the Christmas in hawaii theme. But man, eggnog just seems to trip everyone up!
  19. So creepy! and the COW! OMG, that thing was made of nightmares, haha.
  20. Thank you! I thought of something lighter, a more vanilla based with dulce de leche or something. Never would have gone chocolate hazelnut coffee crunch or whatever it was. Which actually sounds delicious, but not really with the theme. Her design was horrible, too. The bucket was cute, but that was it. Her petit fours were ugly. They didn't look "Holidays" at all, but rather something you'd see on the dessert table at a company party. Jennifer's cake looked like a story book, and I loved it. I loved her frosting tree on the side, the geese all doing something. It was so different from what we usually see - Josh's cake (as much as I love him) was well executed, looked good, but kind of generic. And the cake itself didn't sound all that exciting. I was good with either Jennifer or Josh winning (I really just didn't like Stephany at all for no good reason), and I was so happy to see Jennifer win! I still totally want to go to Josh's restaurant and just order dessert next time I'm in the Boston area.
  21. "It looks like something my 4th grade Sunday school made" - we were dying at Josh's doughnuts. Is it just me or did Duff look really good tonight? Is it because they did the Hanukkah themed challenge? Also, is this the first time they've had a specifically Hanukkah challenge? Stephany still gets on my nerves, but yeah, they got the right top 3. I would be happy with either Jennifer or Josh - they both make things I want to eat, and both seem genuinely nice. I liked that Josh had a good sense of humor over his preheat failure and didn't have a crying fit or something. And yes, I wish they hadn't have shown the final cakes in the preview.
  22. RE: not wanting an ensuite... My husband and I work different schedules, and I will wake him up if I go into the closet in the morning, never mind having an attached bathroom. We actually use the smaller bedroom in our apartment as our main one, and the "master" as our office because it's quieter, and keep our clothes in the bigger office closet so that I don't wake him up in the morning. Works for us really well. I feel like if we were to ever buy a house that had an ensuite, we'd designate that as our guest room, and use another room as our master. But yeah, not something we want or need, and would probably have on our "don't want" list.
  23. Just finished a binge watch of this on Hulu. It got to the point when I would cringe at the word bourbon. We get it, honey. You're from Kentucky. Also maybe an alcoholic. I wanted to smack Mr. "This is the bomb!" Best of the best of the best sir! Guy. Erin didn't bug me too much at first, but then an air of entitlement started sneaking in... (also, I HATED referring to herself as "fluffy". As a fat girl myself, just... ugh). I want the recipe for the maple candied bacon yule log. Erin totally wasted her advantage of Duff assisting her. She already established she was a great decorator - use him to give your cake some oomph by adding a sauce or some other component you otherwise wouldn't have time for! As someone who loves to make pies, I was proud of the home baker who wanted to open a pie shop, and also felt so bad that she got *thisclose* only to kind of bomb at the end. Rather enjoyable, I am excited to get caught up on the next couple of seasons as we watch the current one.
  24. Jennifer's Wisconsin accent was super Wisconsin last night, haha. Mr. D and I figured it was either Amy or the other guy, so we weren't too surprised. For what it's worth, I actually didn't mind her at all, and never found her attire to be all that bad. She dressed comfortably to her - similar to how I dress when I bake. I never once thought she showed too much (or really any that I noticed) cleavage. We're both fully aboard the Josh train. He is just so thoughtful with his plates. Stephany still annoys the crap out of me. Especially since Ms. Master Baker used premade shit TWICE IN THE SAME EPISODE. UGH.
  25. Kate paged them because of Kevin's injury on the field, not because something was wrong with the dog.
