  1. There are also times when you want everyone to see the answer that should only been seen by one person, and you pretend it was an Oooops. Or you send a very private message to all by mistake. Very often found in fiction (movies, series, books), both, although I hear it happens in real life too. I don't think I've been guilty of either, or maybe just for real minor stuff. I'd love to once do it deliberately (the nasty reply to a nasty message sent to all recipients, cc-ed and bcc-ed). I could see so many fictional scenarios where it would work perfectly, but I'm probably not ready to burn bridges big time.
  2. Or 4) two people go to exile, two tribes go to Tribal Council - which would explain why there was only one reward. And the tribe that finished second has first pick of returnee from exile island.
  3. You know, and without saying she's the greatest player to ever play, these are some characteristics of some very successful past Survivor players. Some even got asked back 4 times because of these attributes. And went on to win.
  4. Between the first season and now, this show has become increasingly more and more snarkworthy. It's fun to watch for the snark, but it's like its DNA had been radically modified. It feels like the show runners don't understand the difference between emotions and sadness, and it's become such a pathos, with characters like Randal and Kate becoming unlikeable to the highest degree, rather than touching.
  5. Hey, I'm ok with Natalie staying, and I smiled when she described herself as a senior citizen, because to me it's obvious that she doesn't see herself as such, but for once she read the room and realised that her tribemates WOULD consider her a senior citizen once they knew her age. I'm surprised by how much I like John (the wrestler), he's quite refreshing, and the crab race was fun. I've just discovered that there is someone on the Goliath tribe that looks very much like D'Arcy Carden (Janet on The Good Place). Lastly, while it was not the most amazing episode, I'm glad that it entertained me enough to make me forget for a few minutes at a time this sharp back pain that's been plaguing me all day.
  6. I think the show runners initially had this idea of, how wonderful would it be to start with a huge actress, and then have her lose weight!? When that didn't happen, they got stuck on Kate/weight. It's like they have tunnel vision and don't know how to write her as a fully defined character who happens to be overweight, and only see the weight as her defining character.
  7. I think the weather combo of angry nights and pleasant days must have pleased the sadistic TPTB to no end. I've always liked the unexpected alliances, and I like that this season contestants are actively trying to make unlikely alliances.
  8. Haven't seen all of them either, but was just reading this article that compared them and I found it interesting (some people might find it slightly spoiler-isn for the 2018 version - I usually hate spoilers and didn't mind, for what it's worth): https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/sep/28/female-success-and-male-decline-what-a-star-is-born-tells-us-about-fame-fear-and-feminism The title is a bit misleading. I found the background of the previous movies to be a very good read.
  9. Yes, so... does that mean cat leaving super lovely, furry, spot to follow human to the bathroom mean: 1. cat loves human and cannot be apart 2. cat doesn't trust human and need to keep a eye in human when human is not is usual spot - like human in bed, sleeping; or human in the kitchen, before or after feeding cat 3. Well, I can't see another reason and just asking the question brought me to yes, 2, so from now on, when I have non human visitor and don't close the door, I'll look my cat in the eye, blink and think "I KNOW WHY YOU'RE HERE"
  10. Damn, sorry about that. That it reminds me of a nightmarish aunt of mine will be no help, but may let you know I hear what you're saying, in part, because of course each situation is unique. Just do what feels right for you, and let the rest go, it's not worth it for you to get worked up. Let it go, just do it :) I'm not being flippant. Some years ago, I was worrying a lot about my mom's choices, and it took someone to tell me "let it go" for me to really let go, and trust her to do her thing, and stop worrying about it. Her path has turned unfortunate, but somehow since I had let it go, I feel no anxiety, I help her when she asks for it, but otherwise I'm just reminding myself that she's a grown woman who should choose for herself. I'm here for her if/when she needs me, but otherwise my life is basically focused on me, and people close to me.
  11. Why do cats feel the urge to follow us to the bathroom? Seriously? I know why they like their water far from their food. I know they get weird around catnip. But what about our bathroom breaks, when they are so private about theirs?
  12. Maybe she never check her emails? I'd say call her to make sure she has seen them.
  13. "I feel/felt so tv" is going to be my new thing from now on. Thank you!
  14. Yesterday, I got very mad for a minute, before I realised there was no reason to - or so I hoped. Background: while checking my account, I noticed that a client who usually pays me on time hadn't. I send a mail asking if they had given transfer instructions. The reply I got was "Not sure I'll do it if it hasn't been done yet. I'm currently away in [...] so have limited Internet access." So there I was, mad that the guy wouldn't make the payment until he was back. Until I thought, well that's not how that usually works with them, maybe he just forgot a comma. And lo and behold, early this morning he sent another payment email saying he had made the payment. People, commas matter!
  15. I used to, too, but now I have great bakeries nearby, and so many kinds of bread, and it seems I'd lose some of the taste if I put it in the fridge. I should try though, it's not as if I have much to lose. But this, I do too! I ask the baker who slices the bread to give me an extra bag, so I freeze half and get it out the night before I need it, and it's like fresh bread. I guess I should freeze more than half from now on :) Gah, fruit flies! Now I remember why I stopped buying bananas for a while! Last invasion, couple of years ago, was just before I was going away for two weeks. I remember making "traps" based on something I had found online so that they didn't multiply while I was away. And it worked!! Re. expiration dates, cans that are not dented are good way past the sell by date (but it's always good to check how the food looks and smells), dairy products (surprisingly, because I used to throw yoghurts away if past due date) are still good way later than indicated (again, to be checked with look, smell, and taste), spices never get bad but after a while lose their flavour, and medicine after expiring date don't harm you, but stop being effective (as Bilgistic wrote). Shampoo is apparently good for ever, I use tiny amounts only and keep them for years, so it's always nice when a heavy user of shampoo comes to visit. Conditioner too, but I have one, in a pot rather than a tube, where the smell is changing, so I guess it will soon be time to part ways (I'm postponing the moment because it's still doing an amazing job as helping detangle my mass of hair after wash).
  16. Fairly well :) I buy avocados when they're green and wait a few days until the little stem part has dried. And I've leaned to buy just a couple of bananas at a time. But bread keeps drying out on me faster than I can eat it :(
  17. @Hanahope, I'm quite happy with Spotify - I have the paying version, which means no ads, possibility to listen when offline, service stays on when you travel (that had been a beef on mine with the free version, say you spend a month holiday abroad, you wouldn't have access to your account after a week (or two?)). There's a "family version" that can cover kids even after they go on to live elsewhere if they live with you when you sign up. I mostly listen to music I saved, and that can include anything from CDs I own, to artists I want to discover without being sure I'll like them long term, or something I like that I hear on the radio, or in a movie (Shazam+Spotify is a combo I like!). Also, they are adding to the classical music selection, which helped me discover two œuvres I wasn't familiar with. Another thing I like is the option to save a whole album, because I seem to often find a little gem I like that is never released as a single.
  18. They camouflage and hide in the bushes until you take a toilet break :) That seems to be what my mailman does when I'm sent a registered letter or package. Whereas any time I am in a bubble bath, my phone rings. Also, no one comes and visit when my apartment is freshly cleaned. The laws of my universe are very strange indeed.
  19. Yes, where did Jordan go? My son and friends who read the book after watching the movie were not happy, Jordan was a big character to them. But yes, indeed, why portray Nick as unable to be awed by more than Gatsby? And while we know the whole thing is from Nick's perspective, does that mean his sole focus of interest had to be Gatsby? Maybe I need to reread the book. In my memory, there were so many more interactions, and they made it even more interesting - but I admit that I read it a long time ago
  20. Thank you very much indeed. (will this do? What I mean here is thank you, thank you, thank you)
  21. this tread has made me control myself. On another board, I wrote something and was about to end "indeed" at the end, because I really felt about it and wanted to add the word equivalent to an exclamation mark or a square - yes, I did have British teachers, indeed - and then I chickened out, because I was afraid of how a US reader would interpret it.
  22. That made me laugh. And then realize that it there was no TV anymore I had access to, I'd be crying grateful tears if I had the opportunity to watch any episode of Friends. Or of anything, really. It's all relative.
  23. I also watched the pilot, then a while later 4 or so episodes of season 2 and came back again to watch the whole thing. I later learned that the series is based on a play, so that might explain the relatively stilted feel at first. As I remember it, season one some cringey moments, but season two was quite enjoyable.
