Is that Mario on the right??

My mother thought I was a genius for getting FJ, so I won't tell her about the rest of you people! :)

Small Talk: West Covina Coffee Shops

If anyone's interested in learning more about Greg and Rebecca's favorite fire, PBS is re-running the American Experience documentary about the Triangle Shirtwaist fire on Jan 30! -
Two things about this: Tanya's challenge was precision, not tastiness, and she was not precise. Claudette's challenge was just speed, and she got the dish done. And outside of the show, "old" is not the stereotype Tanya is battling -- it's the Angry Black Woman, and she has to fight it all the time, where ever she goes. Outside of her own kitchen, possibly. I just think you do her a disservice to leave that out.

And as part of the Lemonis Empire, they barely need to sell at all -- all of his businesses will generate more work than they can do, I bet.

I thought this group didn't know surprising things, but thinking back, was it the general pop culture stuff? Ann Rice, Lord Peter WImsey, even leaving the "album" category for last? I'm excited to finally have a longer run! Especially since I felt like Gilbert just squeaked through his first couple of games.

I'm sure they are using US charts only, but yeah. I heard a local DJ talking about his "off-beat" or something Christmas show this year, and he said, "I used to play Christmas Wrapping!" like, it used to be obscure, but is now mainstream. So it seems like it wasn't a hit originally but has grown over the years.

All of this!! I was not that into last week's episode, but this one was fire. -

Yeah, I'm not great at anagrams, but I am surprised that they couldn't get to Warner from Warren, given they had Warren. (Whether or not contestants should be expected to know Elizabeth Warren is from Massachusetts is another question.)

Yeah, that is gross. And I agree that it's less than they made it seem -- and these aren't even satisfying as Intervention episodes, because you don't get the end of the story in the hour!

I have one "ethnic heritage" dish, tourtiere, French Canadian pork pie. You could easily make it into little tartlets which would cook faster and seem more elegant. I'd have to know how to make my own ketchup, because I'm guessing bottled stuff doesn't fly on Top Chef!

The letters in the word are in alphabetical order -- f-o-r-t-y.

I would guess Tom would send Claudette back in because she was so unimpressive in her short time on the big show, but I think Tom has really loved most of what she's done on LCK. Of course, she'll probably get back to the main show just in time for a smorgasbord episode or some shit and still be unable to make her Mexican food.

Yeah, she makes me crazy with that. And the opening line about every kid writing to Santa! Um, pretty sure Duff never wrote to Santa. Or if he did, he never heard back, lol.

That's a really good point, but because I had the "only $40K???" reaction, too. But of course, it would have been a huge step up for them financially. (If they didn't feel bamboozled, which I think Lisa did when she tasted their cookies.) Also a great point! She's got it to this point, but she definitely has stuff to learn before she can run a bigger company. And she can! And I hope she does.

I'm currently watching Law & Order's "Pro Se," which was on WE the other day!

Except Marcel's is super long on top -- when he turned, you could see it kind of gathered in back.

I think I would have written Dunkirk for FJ, because I know kirk is church, and dun is close enough to dune, but I would have assumed it was wrong, having no idea Dunkirk is in France! That feels weirdly ignorant, and makes me think I should actually study some history. Super happy for Lakedra, but I would not have minded Ian winning. So handsome, and also apparently a friend of a friend!

I saw Gail Simmons speak on her book tour, with Tiffani Faison, which was awesome, and one of the things she said was about how their gender breakdown really doesn't represent the top echelons of the restaurant world, because of sexism in the field, but I wonder if that makes it hard to find the number of top women to compete. Because I'm sure there are enough women who could do it, and it bums me out when the weakest competitors are all women.

To be fair, Daveed Diggs could walk down the street in anything and get all the phone numbers!

Maybe this is just stereotyping on my part, but a business all about "helping" "Detroit" and did we see more than one black person in the episode?

I totally saw Josh taking out trash at the restaurant where he's the pastry chef today! I should go there some time just for dessert (dinner is $$$).

Guy's Big Project - General Discussion
Jesse replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Guy's Big Project
Yeah, Rashad is apparently delightful in person, and I like him fine on camera, but I wonder about there being a "slot" on FN for him. But they mostly have Eddie hosting, right? So maybe they still need someone to run around in different restaurants? -
Me too! I knew it was one or the other of those movies I never saw. And from the FJ category, I knew it was the country with a tree in the middle of its flag, but not which country that was! Duh.
