  1. I thought "why is Eric wearing a church hat and mink stole?"
  2. There are US federal classes in how to respond to and also investigate bomb blasts. Students work for the State Department, military, etc. A core principle is to always assume there is at least one additional bomb ready to be triggered.
  3. I know two Labs named Grits and Gravy. Guess what colors they are. Condolences on your loss. I thought it very odd that Mabel wore TWO sequin-y dresses in one episode. As if wardrobe had to make last-minute costume changes. Love seeing Zach. The man is a chameleon.
  4. I consider this show to be on a level with The Wire, and I'm wildly excited about Season 4 starting soon. It crept up on me and is unexpected timing.
  5. Now THAT would be smashing reality TV. The ratings would be gold.
  6. In some communities, like mine, it's all about developing new monstrous ugly houses that sell for millions. My county government, once supportive of saving old homes, amended the zoning regs to eliminate single-family-housing only zones, allowing multi-family dwellings to be mixed in. It was marketed as moderately-priced housing (for teachers, police, etc.) and instead has turned into a developer feeding frenzy. They are putting in apartments that will rent for the market rate (e.g., $2500-3000 1 bedroom) and houses for at least $1.5M, many more than that. It's market-driven, essentially allowing only the prosperous to rent or buy. There's a lawsuit because no thought was given to effect on our already-aging infrastructure.
  7. Didn't aristocrafts wear white, lead-based face paint back then? That was my thought upon seeing Driver's makeup.
  8. I think they were all living beyond their means, and their reality TV bubble burst. Mina was overextended. I think the confusing episodes are due to lazy editing - no concern for editing continuity. Perhaps because the show was going to be cancelled...production crews are perceptive, figure things out, and act accordingly. They may have had interns doing a lot of the work.
  9. My friend told me her cardiologist referred her to a practice/business that "knows how to help a patient qualify" for these new weight-loss drugs (perhaps not Ozempic but a similar drug). They are probably printing money.
  10. It's especially horrible if Colin did not have a mental illness before being institutionalized, but emerged with one as a result of that decision. He endured a lot while there, including abandonment by his family.
  11. I think he's lashing out at his mother because he's disappointed and maybe embarrassed, with his father's eager encouragement. At some point he will have to stop blaming Kate and deal with his challenges. A lot of trauma victims get therapy and get stuck on Blame.
  12. Even inexperienced reality TV participants learn to perform for the cameras.
  13. It's called scapegoating and it's real. My friend was singled out for years of horrific abuse while her five siblings were left alone. Her theory is that she reminded her father of her mother, who was his first victim. I'm confused about Colin's situation. I thought he entered basic training. The military asks about mental health issues during the recruiting/application process - so the Marines must have known about his condition but sent him to basic and tried him anyway. No way would Colin make it - he hasn't had enough recovery from his trauma. I have several young cousins who went through Marine basic a couple of years ago (still a common path for rural southerners), and only one stayed in. Recruiters are extremely persuasive, getting to know the mamas and posting on Facebook, and there's a lot of fanfare and praise when a kid joins up. Then basic training reality sets in. Colin has a tough job in front of him: deal with the realities of his mental illness while continuing therapy to recover from the trauma. Reality TV and social media are not his friends.
  14. It's interesting that Barlow does not claim that this guy didn't give her money. Instead her attorney says "he didn't invest" etc. Also interesting that the plaintiff claims Barlow was in severe financial distress in 2010, which reminds us of all the housewives who pretend to be something they are not. Sounds like he gave her money/credit and she didn't bother to pay it back.
  15. Tom's trial started several days ago. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/tom-girardi-erika-jayne-trial-housewives_n_66b11e91e4b0781f9247040a
  16. I've only just started the 2nd season and I don't know if Gus' situation changes. But I think this character is one of the few intriguing ones and I'd like him featured more.
  17. Absolutely. I semi-binged the first season and the pornography overload was boring and irritating. Plus, I laughed at how every occurrence was like rabbits - zero to 60 sex, with the performative female characters thrashing and moaning and making O faces. Stupid. I've most enjoyed the chatter that goes on in the background of the trading floor. We can always hear one of the traders yelling something crazy at a client or each other.
  18. He never seems authentic in his roles, especially when he's playing angry or unhinged. It's a lack of range. The other actors are better, and perhaps will improve as the series develops. Surely Sarsgaard, Negga and Camp will rise to the occasion. Fagbenle is giving us some of that polished-sociopath stuff that certain politicians (and business leaders) do. I'm hopelessly lost in the night-time scenes because I can't see a damn thing.
  19. I'm convinced that many of the Housewives feel pressure to appear wealthy, and that they borrow as much money as they can for their displays. They spend some of those loans on cosmetic procedures and clothes. Some of them stupidly avoid paying income taxes, thinking somehow they will deal with that later.
  20. And as a villain in the fantastic series Slough House. It's a bit distracting that Alicent still looks like she's in her 20s, even after birthing all those babies.
  21. She looked oddly like a Dr. Seuss character. I assume she's talking about the adult child of an alcoholic syndrome. A big part of that can be codependency and a desperate urge to please people and be the peacemaker or adult. Yet never feel you are getting there no matter how hard you try. Anxiety-inducing.
  22. I'm struggling with this also. They are trying to show everyone's day-in-the-life, but it's a bit of a pretty mess (pretty because it's still so much better than what else is on offer). With Carmy being such a significant lead character, it's weird when the camera bops around the restaurant and we barely see him. Maybe due to his heavy production schedule with other opportunities? Maybe the writers are fatigued and struggling to keep it great. Tasty sandwiches are cheaper and faster than fine dining, so they are attractive to consumers.
  23. Victoria's "year off" - anyone else remember the other show stating that she was working as a dancer on a cruise line? Wonder if she quit after a few days and returned home and began her year off.
  24. We finished the three seasons. Despite his ability to lay on the charm, it's clear Clarkson and his gang are immensely entitled. He was determined to pretend he is a guileless new farmer, blundering along innocently, but he was performing for the show. Some of the latter scenes were clearly staged. He chose to dirty up the area with porta-potties and the traffic and noise and crowds and muddy car parks. His massive machines - 15 to 20 of them? - don't help. I absolutely agree with the planning commission that he built the "lamb barn" with the intention of turning it into a restaurant. His spoiled partner defiantly jamming the farm shop with unauthorized products is loathsome. Neither of them needs the income; they could have approached this in a way that's better for that beautiful community. Let's hope this fool and his money are eventually parted.
