I think it's more to show how they survived the challenge where someone who tapped didn't. When someone taps, they always provide them with either a robe or their clothes. Lately, I've even seen them giving them bottles of water. I'm sure as soon as the cameras are off, the drivers are throwing robes, water and deodorant at the ones that completed the challenge.

If I could love this more, I would. Amber: "Let's pray for my girls, and pray that EJ gets his big win." I thought that was pretty damn assholeish, but I don't expect much else from Amber. Sorry, Dan, I could have made that shot and I've never held a bow in my life. That caiman was either drugged or already dying. But a big win is a big win and hopefully, the meat chandelier dries correctly so they have food for a while. Especially because you know EJ is "stumbling" on their camp. Speaking of, EJ complains about the humidity and how he could easily get dehydrated and he wanders off for two days without any water? Good job, producers. (Actually, we know it was Amber's shrill voice and constant "brothers" that drove him away) Speaking of producers, thanks for planting those baby caiman so Trish and Jen could make their 40 and get the hell out. I was getting tired of both of them; more time for the other groups.

It's not that I'm not getting into this season, but by now, I've usually picked my favorite and can't wait for the episode. Not so much this season so far. Sorry Igor, but you really shouldn't have gone for the Taj Mahal of cabins. It would have been really simple to just convert that into an A-frame. Damn, those beavers were huge! And not only good meat, but beaver fur gloves! Pillows! Socks! I was wondering if he was actually baiting the bear and planned to come back and shoot it later? That's kinda cheating, isn't it? Also, why don't these people carry their bows all the time? How many times have they seen game and "Oops, I don't have my bow"?

Glad Dan and Waz are staying. Gotta see how those 'maters taste. Amber had a more superior attitude with female contestants on the only XL that she finished. Every time she has thrived in a team, it's been all males and Amber. Maybe she has problems dealing with other women? If she would have discussed things with Trish and Jen, maybe it would have been different. Maybe it was just the edit. I don't know. I do know that Jeff stirred the shit and left and I do know that I didn't like Amber from the get go, so my feelings about her are definitely colored.

That squirrel bit was beyond sad. But she's totally right. She's indirectly killed quite a few things for what she has in her not-Alone life, now she's just doing it face-to-face. I'm glad she understood that and didn't let it get to her. Juan Pablo is just living it up with the junk, isn't he? Hope he doesn't find a boat and make a hot tub. All those banking on a bear are probably going to be disappointed. Or dead. Still haven't found a favorite yet.

I said to Mr. Max, if they can't find any fish, just slice off a piece of EJ. I think Jeff made Trish and Jen worse. They were downright bitches at the end. I truly don't like Amber, mostly because of the points that @sassycat made regarding how it really felt like The Amber Show, with everyone else just bit players in her show. And the fact that she brags about how great she is and only completed one challenge out of 4. I'm sure she was guided towards Steven & EJ's camp. Poor, poor Jeff. You know in his description of this, he'll say he was forced to tap. There was no force. He did it on his own. And good riddance. Glad Matt finally got his bow-jo back. 😁 It's really nice to see him teaching Waz & Dan. But why the hell didn't they boil one bird overnight for breakfast and roast one for dinner? Seems to me that was a waste, eating both birds in one meal.

Not only that, why would he take Maddie somewhere? He didn't do that with his other victims. I called that as soon as she kept repeating "40 years" in one of the early episodes. All in all, the series was good. Not great, but good. Lower production values, of course, and it really sucks that we probably won't see that gorgeous house again. I didn't realize that was Welliver Jr. playing young Harry. I thought the actor did a good job copying his mannerisms. I did tell Mr. Max that the young half-brother grows up to be Matthew McConaughey. 😄

Seems to me that a lot of the participants this time have spent a considerable amount of time alone already on their own journeys. Adam, Juan Pablo, Teimojin, Terry (who for some reason reminds me of Colter from last season) and I think one other. I would think it would give them a bit more staying power. Sucks that Adam already lost 2 arrows. He should have brought really bright ones like Jacques did. They all seem to be doing well, not expending too much energy on shelter. I don't think Jacques put on too much weight beforehand if he was that thin. He was actually eating pretty good. Better to go early than drag it out.

It's hard to choose between Jeff and Amber. I don't like them both equally. But Jeff really is stirring the shit. "She told me you guys don't like to boil water." Would a true leader share that info? Nope. He just wants them to side with him and force Amber out, which I really wouldn't mind, but then we'd be stuck with Mr. I Live For This!!!! Steven is looking pretty gaunt. I hope they find some protein fast. EJ, dude, you need to learn to hit something with the blow gun before you worry about poison for the tips. Great ending for Waz, Matt and Dan. Hopefully they can continue to get scores. And Matt finds his aim.

I'm not even trying to learn their names yet. Give me a couple more episodes. Lots of people from colder climates this time. A couple each from Alaska and Canada. I would think they would have a slight advantage, as long as they don't lose their shit (or their weight). Salt is an odd choice, but I can understand it. As long as you don't over salt the food.
-
But Jeff will be the first one to tell you he's a legend and has done more days than anyone else.
-
I think they will all have to make a trek to another location. Steven has talked about staying where he was for 60 days and both can't be true. I think the dock/raft needs more work to be able to carry everyone. It barely held Amber; they were going to add another log for the other ladies. If it has to carry more, it needs a few more logs. Waz and EJ are big guys - actually, all three new survivors looked like they did the smart thing and packed on some weight before being dropped in the jungle.
-
I'm actually glad the girls got stuck with Jeff. I wanna see the showdown between Mr. I've Done More Days Than Anyone Unless You Count the Day in the Med Tent and Ms. I Call Myself a Legend Even Though I've Only Completed One Full Challenge. Sucks for Steven that his eggs went bad. But damn, if he doesn't keep trying. He and EJ should do well. Waz and Dan have someone that knows how to use a bow!!! That puncture was nasty. No way that isn't getting infected. I really hope they did give him antibiotics, at least to keep it from getting too bad. Why weren't the female team and Waz & Dan smoking the extra meat? Amber should know how, she knows everything else.

I think it was more that Amelia was mothering all the kids at one point. Because, you know, Meredith can't/won't.

If you live (or lived for any time) in Pittsburgh, you can't escape Mr. Rogers. Whether or not Jack took them to the taping, he was a part of Rebecca's life, too.
-
There was a trolley from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Although, there are some mighty pissed off Steeler fans. You don't use the Terrible Towel (TM) as, you know, an actual towel. 😄 I thought they kept her out of the flash forward teases in case she lost the weight or God forbid, passed away. Then they had to come up with some reason for her to be late. And they chose the absolute best one... 🙄 To Deja: "If you keep touching your belly, everyone will know you're pregnant" or something along those lines. That's it. I guess I'm a cold-hearted bitch, because I have never cried during this show, not Miguel's episode, not Jack dying, not this one. I appreciated them all, but they didn't move me anywhere near tears. I liked William being the one to lead her thru her life. Maybe because her life was so wrapped up in her children and William was there, more or less, when she had her children. I hated her waiting for Kate before she passed because they had such a special relationship. Please. The casting for this show really is fantastic. All the adult children really did look like and have the same speech patterns as their younger versions. Especially Deja and Malik. Unbelievable. The only notable issue is the casting of Jack, but I totally understand that they are using blind actors and there is a limited pool.

That's a good take. If Amber had completed more than one challenge (she's only completed one 40 day challenge; she tapped or was medically tapped from EVERY OTHER CHALLENGE), then maybe she'd be a legend. Her "I've had 70-something days on challenges was a little bit of bullshit. Maybe Trish and Jen would listen if she had completed more challenges. Maybe I'd have some more respect for her, not that anyone gives a crap about what I think.

Amber appointed Amber leader. Yeah, I'm on Trish's side. Amber is a dictator, telling everyone what to do and how to do it. She did that to an extent on the last XL that she didn't finish, but the guys basically did what they wanted anyway, and of course, she ragged on them for it. It's a team, not a dictatorship. Discussing what needs to be done for the day, not telling them what needs to be done, is a better way to go. That's a team. Glad Dan and Waz found each other. Hope the bird trap works, but the thought of eating a vulture? 😬 I have full faith that Steven will finish, with or without a partner.

Between emergency urgent care trips and hockey, I finally got to watch this one. Rod definitely undercooked that fish. Waz was very smart in refusing a piece. Steven with the leech? Made me shudder and I'm not a dude. Poor Dan. I really hope he gets someone good as his partner. Like Matt. As much as I hate to admit it, Amber is right. They need to be working on the shelter. As does she, really. How much time is she spending fishing? I wonder if they reached out to the "surprise" guests after so many people tapped.

I don't think PMJ has been around long enough to know the dynamics. Did Kevin ever live with Kate and PMJ? I think there might have been a different plot planned, but COVID put a wrench in it.

Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
madmax replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
Not really a commercial making me scratch my head, but the juxtaposition: The Expedia Commercial with Ewan McGregor talking about people not needing more things, but experiences Followed immediately by an Xfinity Mobile commercial (I think) with some singer talking about how the money saved by Xfinity Mobile allows you to buy more things. 🤔 -
If I remember right, three of them were out hunting, one tapped because of the weather. Russell was all "I'm with you, I won't leave you" to Chance, then he tapped. Chance did go back and finish the 40. Russell was a real asshole that XL. Pretty sure that was the only XL Amber finished and the two of them clashed. I'm so over Amber being considered a Legend. She's tapped more than she's finished. And that preview of her shouting is SO irritating. I've always thought Amber has the "I'm such a badass and so much better than you" attitude. Finish a couple of XL challenges and I'll agree. Grudgingly.
-
OMG, I'm so sorry. I feel like I cursed us with Jeff. So glad to get Gary out of the way quickly. He has always irritated me and again, has to tap due to his own stupidity. How many challenges has he actually made it thru? I know of at least 3 that he tapped on. Sorry that Steven is all alone, but if anyone can do it alone in the Amazon, he can. (Even though we know he won't be) I really like him, except last XL when he was partnered with the idiot. Really tired of Amber thinking she's the be-all, end-all. She's tapped almost as much as Gary. I can't wait to see the friction between her and Trish. And I don't think Kaila will put up with her shit, either, assuming they get to meet. I'm a dumbass, I didn't even catch there would be a surprise fourth, but it makes sense. Wondering if they'll have a female? Maybe Laura? Another one I really like, except when she's partnered with the idiot. How many good people has he turned into assholes? I was wondering that, too. Like that one challenge where they had the option to join the XL crew and the guy did. Chance, I think? I can see no valid reason to do that. And why the hell was he chopping such a huge tree for his sleeping platform?

This was a really great episode and a good season finale. I really felt bad for Isaac. So happy Nigel didn't get sucked off. Maybe he can move into the house with Isaac? Thor cracked me up with the curse. Go to faraway land for....cinnamon. I felt bad for the Farnsby's ghost. Sam didn't even answer her question. I like the idea that Jay can see the ghosts temporarily due to head trauma. But it's better that he's clueless when he doesn't know they're there.

Small Talk: Ughngnggh! Ugghhnnn!
madmax replied to radishcake's topic in The Walking Dead Franchise Shows
St. Pete Beach, FL. What can I bring you? Funny, but the last week long vacation we took was to St. Pete as well, about 19 years ago. But we drove. About 18 hours. I do not recommend with a 7 year old and a 3 year old....
