I would think they would need to know this stuff anyway, even if it is a design show, given that's how they plan on making their money. I can design the most beautiful dress in the world, but if I don't know what fabric to use or how to have it sewn correctly, it will never come to fruition correctly. On paper and on a person are two very different things. On Making the Cut (Tim and Heidi's new show), they do get seamstresses but they have to be the one to pick the fabric, cut the patterns and pin it together. The seamstress literally only sews exactly what they are given to sew with the instructions they are given. I think that's a good example, even if they weren't skilled seamstresses, they have to be able to tell the seamstress what they want and how it should be done.

Holiday Baking Championship - General Discussion

It's only taken her how many seasons to recognize that? I know some of the other contestants in seasons past have really pushed against her limited view of "holiday." I don't mind Nancy. I usually like her criticisms except when it comes to her very specific definition of holiday. We've had bakers from tropical climates in years past. They may not get snow and for them pineapple or banana might be a holiday flavor that's reminiscent of their childhoods. Since Halloween Baking Show didn't have twists, I thought (hoped) this one wouldn't either. So much for that.- 2.4k replies

I don't know anything about running a nursing home. I've visited decades ago as a Girl Scout, but I kind of think Gina's 48 million is not going to be enough to sustain her desired goals for the nursing home long term. In theory the nursing home should break even between expenses and the income from the residents, but from what I've usually heard about nursing homes, they don't necessarily do so and that's part of the reason you get the sub-standard care in some places. In googling, I came across this article which is fascinating about the finances including how they can't throw someone out who can't pay. It seems like Gina, in her big show of altruism, could end up losing her shirt. Which I know is not going to happen because it is a TV show, but this is going to bother me a bit. It isn't necessarily that 'corporate" was cutting budget for the fun of it.

I like Nancy's new haircut. I think it is cute on her. I did not like Nancy's "this isn't holiday" to the lady who did the s'mores donut and the other donut. I couldn't figure out what was not holiday about them. Maybe too brown? That's always an ongoing issue with this show.- 2.4k replies

I'm starting to feel a little like Jay. I've never seen the headless ghost.

S05.E03: Potential Energy and Hooch on a Park Bench
joanne3482 replied to Bort's topic in Young Sheldon
I work for a city, which is basically perceived as the best job possible in smaller, working-class towns (when I was hired on, so many people at my last job were envious of it, which was weird to me because I hadn't really thought about it) and we won't hire even a maintenance person without a diploma/GED. I did like that in his own way I think Dale was kind of trying to be supportive of Connie, Mary and George Sr. I believe that when Georgie said basically, I can work full time for you now, Dale said he didn't need him full time. -
On what planet are sauerkraut and black garlic equivalent to rosemary and gelatin in terms of difficulty? Honestly. That made me so angry. Admittedly all the baking shows I watch eventually run together but I feel like Guillermo used gelatin in a panna cotta. Melt down the flavored gelatin treat and bam, panna cotta. Also, on no baking show I've ever watched have they criticized macarons for not being day old. All the macarons I've ever made I've eaten at least one the same day I made them. It's never even been said in the recipes I've used that they have to rest overnight. It was not some horrifying situation. I was floored by Stephanie's issue with Megan's macarons not resting or whatever overnight. She did say towards the end that they were overcooked, which maybe they were, but her initial complaints were all about how they were supposed to "rest" overnight and that's why they wouldn't work.

Then I think they should just be assigned. I remember in years past when the models were chosen and it was like old school kickball, there were always some that got picked last and they were usually the heavier models or persons of color.

But the whole theme of the story was that on Beef and Ptarmigan's 18th birthday Beef picked up Kathleen and not Ptarmigan. I guess that could have been the night Wolf was conceived... but Wolf really seems older than 22.

That was my struggle as well. Not necessarily in his 30s but definitely not early 20s.

Yeah I wasn't sure how they did it either. Were they timing from the moment each person started their attempt or were they using time as a whole? It was unclear. It also seemed unfair for Ruby because (not that any team even came close to 6 wires) because if the other two teams were able grab all 6 wires, Ruby wouldn't be able to.

YES! That was my issue too. Hazel isn't 5. She may have gotten bored, but she's old enough to have walked over to her dad and Freddie and said, I'm bored can we go home now? It seems she just left without saying a word to anybody. That's all on her.

To me it just seems like it would be a great time. She gets to hang out with friends. She seems to get free booze and food. She gets to go places and do things she may never have a chance to do otherwise. I'd do it were I significantly younger and significantly more fit.

This was the first episode I've watched where I thought, when is this show ending? It was not good. I can believe that the main house is close to paid off. If Erika is over 21 and they've lived in their house the kids' whole lives, I can buy that the current house either paid off or very close to it and probably with a low mortgage. But why not take the money and just upgrade their existing house? It was so weird. Yes, Glascott is renting the house next door.

Delmer speaks Yu'pik. I was tickled to hear him use two Yu'pik words (anuq -shit and waqaa - hello) . I'm going to interpret that to mean Delbert is a Yu'pik Native Alaskan which means the use of uncle is honorific. One of my college friends is Yu'pik and she calls all her elders in the village auntie and uncle.

S05.E02: Snoopin' Around and the Wonder Twins of Atheism
joanne3482 replied to DanaK's topic in Young Sheldon
MeeMaw was suspicious because she ran into Brenda at the store and was all innocently talking about how Brenda was there and their big event (being the heart attack not that they were there together). Brenda got all squirrely about it saying they weren't even together there. But she was clearly lying. Missy started questioning God because they were at the Moses part of the Bible where God kills the baby boys and she was troubled about that. Especially because Sheldon was explaining HOW God had the baby boys killed (drowning in the river). I did like that the pastor was encouraging her to question things because I think it is important if a person is going to believe that they believe because they choose to not because "this is what we do." -
I like that they are also addressing the soldier side of the pull out from Afghanistan. I've read some articles about how much the soldiers who were there are struggling with this. There are jobs Riley could do as an adrenaline junkie that are a different kind of dangerous than Repo man. (Also I know nothing about repossessing cars in reality, but in the other shows I've seen this done, they load them onto a trailer not drive them themselves, are they hotwiring them? Or did they get a key from the company? If they have a key why do they need the slim jim?) As a former soldier he'd have a leg up if he wanted to be a fire fighter, police officer or possibly paramedic.

S03.E04: Old Strokey
joanne3482 replied to jewel21's topic in Bob ❤️ Abishola (Bob Hearts Abishola)
Bob has never stated he'll kick her out once she can walk (aka recovered). I think the show runners are trying to set up the big miscommunication storyline where Dottie THINKS that's what will happen and that's why she told the other son to not tell anyone she can walk. I'm not looking forward to the story where Dottie can walk and then Abishola or Bob catches her and there's a whole meltdown about this. (See also: Parks & Rec Andy's legs, and basically any other time in a sit-com when the injured person is healed but lies about it to make the rest of the characters do their bidding) -

I don't like that they are going down the storyline of Dottie can "stand" now but she's going to hide it to be manipulative. She can barely stand. She's not fully recovered. They wouldn't kick her out just because she can stand up with a significant struggle. She clearly would still need some assistance like the chair most of the time but a walker sometimes to make her strong. If they're going by "If she can walk she's out", she's nowhere near that. I suspect they would be thrilled she's made that much progress. -
I'm so bummed, due to a storm, my DVR cut the entire piece from when Priscilla went down to the arena to Ashley getting to choose her new team. I'm going to have to find it online so I can catch that part. I like that they're in teams now. I LOVE the new changes. It could get very interesting. (Or very boring sometimes it is hard to say). I've always hated it when the members would throw a mission because they want something else. I can't remember if it was TJ as the host or one of the others but I remember incidents in the past where that would happen and the host would get really annoyed by it.

The only thing that could have made this better was if they could have found a sponsor to make the episode commercial free. It was a little jarring to go from Al's sister pleading to a cologuard commercial.

I wonder if Abishola never has had the chance to do her own thing design wise. She went from her parents to Tayo. Tayo doesn't necessarily strike me as someone who would let her have her own design. Upon further thought, I think Bob is possibly the first person in her life who has ever put her happiness first, even before his own happiness. Perhaps because I like Abishola, I don't think she is intentionally being a taker. I don't think she's overly selfish or anything like that. I think it is just so novel to her to have someone who treats her like this that she's maybe going a bit overboard. I think they'll find a balance.

So I think I missed it, but did Garcia and Kevin break up because she said she doesn't want to get married?
-
I figured that too. My sister was 10 years older than me and I'm only 12 years older than my nephew and have been called aunt since he could talk so about 14. This surprised me! I had no idea we were close(ish) in age! I thought he was in his 30s.

The interesting thing about the Berna/Amber dispute is that Pizzagate was caused by Berna and Esther. They ate Amber's pizza knowing it was hers. So the mean girl description is apt and why I don't really like her. Y'alls view on Priscilla is mine on Bettina. As she was talking in the episode I was confused about who she was. I knew she wasn't Berna but couldn't figure out who she is.
