  1. Okay, if we're bitching threads on threads, three things fill me with rage: 1. I haven't watched this episode yet, but... 2., I don't have time to read everyone else's comments yet but here's my opinion... 3. Just me? (after expressing a point that's been made five times in the last six posts)
  2. Maggie Gyllenhaal turns me into my mother: I just want to grab her shoulders and tell her to stand! up! straight!
  3. I've been weight training at the gym for 30 - 45 minutes twice a week for over a year now even though I hate it but have abandoned the cardio equipment in favor of outdoor activities while it's warm and light enough to do so. I really hate the treadmill because all those displays prove that I'm not as fit as I think I am and try as I might, I don't seem to improve. With the change of season I'll have to make a choice as to whether I want to feel depressed on their exercise bike or guilty on my couch.
  4. My gym serves pizza on the first Monday of the month so probably that. They serve bagels and cream cheese on the first Tuesday and always have Tootise Rolls at the desk. I don't understand my gym.
  5. Okay, these aren't "new" foods but I had two triumphs over the weekend. First, I tried a new recipe for chick pea & avocado salad that came out delicious! I had my doubts because I'm still not sure I actually like avocados and never pick a properly ripe one and I had to use lemon juice instead of lime but I was happily surprised. Second. I am not one of those people who sleeps until the alarm goes off so thanks to Daylight Saving time ending, I was awake way, way too early Sunday morning. I gave up trying to doze and went to the kitchen and made cornmeal buttermilk pancakes and threw in some freezerburned blueberries for color (the flavor had flown) and they actually came out right! I tend to make burned-on-the-outside, raw-in-the-middle disks so, again, happily surprised.
  6. A little late now but I wanted to punch all those newscasters who talked about how we all got an "extra" hour of sleep this weekend because we're turning the clocks back. Some of us wake up of our own accord, ya know, which is why I was staring at my ceiling at 5:30 am on Sunday.
  7. @Snow Apple, I liked Caroline up until the end. I wish it had finished either sooner or later, which I hope will make sense to you once you get there.
  8. I finished Sleeping Beauties over the weekend, started Tom Hanks' Uncommon Type yesterday and have Little Fires Everywhere on deck. I feel like I've won my library's trifecta.
  9. I wonder if the scarf has helped her stay in. Her talking head comments are some of the best of the season and since she has the same (no) hairstyle and scarf in every one of them, it must be easy to edit her observations into virtually any episode no matter when she actually said them.
  10. I try really hard to like Cara but to me, she came off like a leprechaun on meth. Emma, on the other hand, is one of my girl crushes. On a previous show, Graham asked her whether Arnold Schwartzenegger could act and the way she blurted out, "NO!!" was awesome. I liked Adam better back in the days when he would appear as if he couldn't believe he was lucky enough to be at a red carpet opening.
  11. That's great news, @TattleTeeny. It's important for all of us to see that something good can come out of a bad experience.
  12. Thanks to somebody's Halloween leftovers, I tried the caramel ones. A little firmer than I would like-- I like my caramel oozy-- but the color of the bag was really pretty.
  13. I think the most notable example of a split infinitive is Star Trek's opening,"...to boldly go where no man where no man has gone before!"
  14. I only get BBC America but you give me hope that a new series will find its way to me soon. Heck, I'd be happy if an old series popped up somewhere.
  15. You can do it @TattleTeeny! They'll be lucky to have you.
  16. Rain, rein, reign. Learn it; love it; live it.
  17. Spaghetti squash is one of those foods that's supposed to be just as good as "the real thing". News flash: spaghetti squash will NEVER be an adequate substitute for pasta, just like an apple is not an acceptable alternative to a Snickers bar. Topic: I ate the last of the chicken last night so tonight, I'm thinking oatmeal.
  18. Yes, I felt so bad for Half-Shave. It was hers to lose and lose she did.
  19. You mean in his divorce? I wasn't there but from what I read, his wife deserved every red cent. Topic: I have one of her cookbooks (Comfort Table) on the shelf and have never opened it. As the weather cools, maybe I should check it out.
  20. I don't think the show is "off" but the bloom is certainly off the rose and Clinton and Mario in particular seem to be over it.
  21. That sounds great: I just put it on hold!
  22. So will I have the nerve to show up in costume at my local Chipotle tomorrow to get a $3 burrito?
  23. I made red beans and rice but it came out bland. Is it okay to just stir more cayenne pepper into the pot while it sits in the firdge for leftovers?
  24. Upthread a bit, I have no problem calling out jerks on public transportation. If I need a seat and someone has their belongings on one, I ask them if they bought two tickets. If they're in the aisle seat and don't move so I can take the window one, I say, loudly, "Don't make me crawl over you. I may accidentally step on you."
  25. I just started Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King and Owen King. Too soon to judge. So far, I can see Stephen's structure but his voice isn't as dominant.
