Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
Qoass replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
Can anyone explain to me why English muffins come in a box with no lid that is then stuffed into a plastic bag? Once I've eaten the first two muffins, it's such a pain in the neck to get the rest out so I end up dumping them all out and chucking the cardboard away then sticking the rest back in the bag as you would bagels. Such a waste of both paper and energy. -
Eggs benedict. Excellent comfort food for a cold and work intensive week.

Well, I think that sheds some light on the hair/makeup/outfit combos she wears on The Kitchen: stylists really DO hate her!

What a well-reasoned post, @TVFan17. I especially like the idea of Gail Simmons from Top Chef: female, personable but not crazy, knowledgeable. As for Valerie Bertinelli being California based, the show only tapes three or four days a week, right? It's not easy but it's doable. (Yeah, I know, but I really, really like her.)

And if that were to happen, I would have no problem with never watching the show again.

The Chew in the Media, and Ratings and Scheduling

I have to believe that Mario has always seen Daphne as he would a daughter. I agree with @TVFan17's speculation that she wanted a reduced role on the show and couldn't come to terms. -
Any chance you can restore the time count on iTunes? Sometimes you discuss a show I haven't seen yet and it's hard to keep spoiler free when I don't know how far to fast forward.

I'd never heard of Clinton, Michael or Daphne before this show began so I'm most open to another person I've never heard of that I can grow to love. As for fantasy level names, I'd enjoy seeing Michael's wife Liz since she's a vegan and was a natural the few times she's been on the show. For pros, I'd like Susan Feniger and/or Mary Sue Milliken (The Too Hot Tamales). I'd also enjoy Valerie Bertinelli or Tiffani Thiessen since I like their Food Network shows or Padma Lakshmi. Please no Richard Blais or that corn pone guy who won Holiday Baking a while back. I want another woman to balance things out.

S03.E01: Cake and Morning Treats Week
Qoass replied to Athena's topic in The Great American Baking Show
I felt kind of bad for the contestants when they showed them shrouded in blankets huddling around a fire while waiting for judgement. Everything was still green so clearly they produced this way in advance but apparently it was still pretty chilly! -

Thanks for clarifying. Still, I can't think of too many people who retreated under controversy and then came back. I love this show but I concede it is getting long in the tooth. Maybe this would be another point in favor of letting it go. -

And... he's out. I'll be cringing on my couch when I watch the next episode. Are they currently running pre-recorded programs? And if so, will they have to dig up some no-Mario repeats to use instead? ETA: He's still all over The Chew website. -
This cake is one of my favorite ways to turn blueberries into comfort food but I subbed in fresh cranberries last night and it was fabulous!

Interesting. He was involved in a tip skimming scandal a few years ago for which he had to pay out big but you never would have known it from watching the program. -
Roseanne and Dan Connor. Roseanne would laugh him off his chair and Dan would slam him into a wall.

Thanks for checking that out for me. I'm confident I can use it in less than a year but now maybe I can extend my cooking date to when I have a house guest in April.

Christmas Cookie Challenge - General Discussion
Qoass replied to Lisin's topic in Christmas Cookie Challenge
Yeah, it's all about the decorating. Kind of like those fancy cakes that look amazing but have so much fondant and infrastructure that you eat them at your own risk. But personally, I'd rather have a warm chocolate chip cookie from the recipe on the back of the bag then those fancy gingerbread creations baked for firmness over flavor. -
Wow, Lionel Richie's head is simply enormous. That's all I got.

Is it okay to leave one in the freezer that long? I want to make mine over a holiday weekend or something so I can enjoy it over a couple of days. With just me and @Mindthinkr (in spirit) I'm going to have lots of leftovers.
-
You are a very good friend. I still have my Thanksgiving turkey in the freezer. I bought it just to have at a good price but went elsewhere for dinner. I'm thinking of maybe making it on Oscar Sunday.

This is my go to because I love wild rice and I love a creamy broth. It does have the carrots/onions/celery mirepoix though.

So it will point towards their cleavage? -
I can understand the hostility the others had for Claire even now. Every time she got into the top 3 (or the bottom 3 for that matter) with something she cheated on, that deprived one of the other designers of a review by the judges. Every time Shawn got by on a piece that was partially sewn by her sister, somebody else got the boot for something they made with no outside design input or help with tailoring. I'd be pissed too. And I know y'all are going to hate me for this but I was frequently put off by Kentaro's whimsy. He 's a year older than Kenya and if she went bouncing around the room with her hands to her cheeks like that, we would have the knives out.

It's rustic, dammit!

I enjoy when TV shows keep the mistakes in. This weekend, Valerie Bertinelli was pouring oil into a food processor when she realized she hadn't removed the lid. It was hilarious. I also always look forward to the outtakes they use coming out of commercial breaks on Trisha Yearwood's show.

I have added a move to my quickie morning yoga practice. After I do my last Pigeon, I then get up from the floor without using my hands. Some days it's harder than one would think.
