S01.E09: Better Is the End of a Thing Than Its Beginning
bijoux replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Righteous Gemstones
No way I would have predicted being touched by Jesse Gemstone in the final scene of the season when this show started. Though I do feel some assholery was missing there. Jesus on the dashboard, Gideon, I just came off the bus and I'm kicking your ass. What have you been doing? I howled at their first scene when Jesse tried to literally take him back home and their parting shots. That dude better get paid six digits and have benefits which include counseling. And I'm not talking about spiritual counseling. The reasons behind why Judy wasn't included in the front end business become clearer as time goes on. BJ is a fucking moron. He went to win back a woman who sexually harassed, then paid off her professor and kidnapped his son. Jesus take the wheel. With how many people show up at the megachurch, the dating pool has to offer at least one other lady willing to indulge his gold shower kink. I rewound the gasps twice. Fucking hilarious. The siblings kill me dead with their dumbassery. So much so I thought they might kill Eli by the end of this episode. Like, he'd just go, I'm tired of this shit. Aimee Leigh, I'm coming. -
S01.E08: But the Righteous Will See Their Fall

Man, Amber legit shocked me in this episode. Talk about a 180. I expected her to keep on with her delusions as when Nancy first brought up the guys’ e-mails. Her walking out of the house with her shotgun and calmly taking Jesse down was a thing of beauty. WTF was Levi’s reason for banding with the married guys to cover their shit up anyhow? Come on, dude. It’s not like you have a Mandy at home who will call you Shrimp Dick. Go, Mandy! Right as Tiffany shot Scottie it hit me that up until that point he’s been like a horror movie villain, he was just springing back up like a demented Jack-in-the-box. Maybe he passed on the baton to Tiff and Uncle Baby Billy. Seriously, not even an injured old dick from that crash? Hey now, he said he was only doing cocaine with crack chasers. His narration of the video was my favorite part of the really rich episode. That’s Gregory attempting to do cocaine. And that’s Matthew successfully doing cocaine. I’ve been presuming the same since the premiere. Only I originally thought he and Keefe were lovers, now I think he’s in denial. -
No, they keep that aspect of the show.

I was clear on JDJ making a joke, I just wasn't sure when this Ben Lewis had his birthday and if Kat got a misleading Google alert or something. But it really is a funny coincidence that not only do two actors share a (not at all uncommon) name, but have birthdays so close together.

S01.E07: And Yet One of You is a Devil

First off, thanks to either Jesus or Judas for making this the first (literal) dick free ep. Amber will probably turn out to be the biggest psycho in the family. I was shocked that Gideon didn't get shot by her or Scottie before the episode ended. Also shocking, Jesse in his special dickish way accepting Gideon presumedly being gay or bi. That was something I never expected to see. -
The 40 thing seemed very odd. Turns out there's a British actor with the same name. Now I'm wondering if it even is this Ben Lewis' birthday or if Kat got the wrong Googlw alert.

It's not that I'm not grateful for the pics, because I am, but what is up with the overuse of classic? Did someone challenge him to use it until the word lost its meaning? Because if so, congrats, he's won.

But there's also the spectre of according to TBBT canon. Or has the show managed to swerve around that?
-
I definitely grew tired of TBBT over the years and was downright shocked and delighted at how cute and good Young Sheldon turned out to be when it came out. I'm not up to date with season 2,I think I didn't get back to it after one hiatus or another, so it could be a dumpster fire at this point for all I know. I hope not.

You're right. I guess I jumped to the conclusion it was their new place since the party came right after they went to the land which would eventually house the compound. I found Eli's dad intriguing. Also a preacher, only a much more modest one, or just a man of faith?
-
Did the Gemstones already have enough money 30 years ago to have that mansion built before Aimee-Leigh even started showing or was the show too cheap or uncaring to throw on a fake belly on her? Seriously, when they showed the party taking place in front of the mansion, I thought we'd see baby Kelvin there. Jesse was organizing paid kids' fights on school grounds, getting drunk and barfing on the grill (potentially the grossest thing on this show so far) and wishing for his future sibling to turn out to be diarrhea and he was made second in charge. Judy was a horror as well, but she never stood a chance. Maybe if Aimee-Leigh had lived.

So what you're saying is we need two tributes and then we're good to go?

S01.E02: Is This the Man Who Made the Earth Tremble
bijoux replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Righteous Gemstones
I imagine it's for being a hypocritical, self-righteous bastard towards his family. Him ragging on his wife for being dishonest and talking to their kid while he's trying to avoid blackmail over footage of him snorting coke at a big tits/tiny weeners orgy and literally prepares to kill to hush it up doesn't seem out of the norm to me. The middlw son obviously has his number by now as well. I'm more curious about how Gideon got that recording. Someone present there must have sent it to him, but why? -
Beyonce was my least favorite part as well. Thankfully, there were Timon and Pumba to offset Can You Feel the Love Tonight, but the original song was just so uninteresting. And I found her voice work distracting as well. But I get why she was hired. Speaking of suspension of disbelief (completely co-signing on Simba and Nala being relatives BTW), how and why was Scar still so emaciated and scruffy looking after years of overkilling and feasting? Did he have glandural issues? He was gorging on everything that ran in Pride Valley and looking like a starved alley cat, meanwhile Simba grew up strong and sported a L'oreal commercial mane off a diet of bugs and worms. Maybe he should introduce a new diet to the lions now that he's king. This seems to unexpectedly be working.

Even more than the rape shitpile, I think I object to dumbing him down in general. I forgot this due to the show beating on the dumbest Lannister drum whenever convenient, but Feast Jamie is actually very aware of his surroundings and the workings of KL, the kingdoms and lords great and small, and he's a very logical thinker when it comes to keeping Tommen king. It's where I first realized that he wasn't just the sword hand he believed himself to be.

As I'm rereading the books I'm kind of developing this theory that D&D bought into Cersei's heightened image of herself, which affected her storyline on the show and in turn Jaime's. Which is a shame for both really because Cersei's chapters in Feast are a true highlight and Lena could have had loads of fun with that. I honestly had a hard time following some of the proposed rewrite and I fervently disagree that it should have been Jaime instead of Theon in the godswood. Theon was just right. The only misstep there was not conveying that to Yara onscreen. I know the show gets a lot of flack (and much of the time rightly so) but I do appreciate them actually crafting scenes for the Lannister brothers. In the books they think of each other, but aside from the clusterfuck of Jaime freeing Tyrion, there's no interaction. Although Handless and Noseless really does make up for a lot. 😄 That video also reminded me of how great Mark Addy was as Robert.

I was mostly puzzled at the different love interest every season bit. Like, huh? Seasons 3, 4, 6 and 7, there were no others as far as I can recall.
-
I'm pretty neutral on Little Women, but man, Saoirse Ronan is so great in the trailer. I may watch for her alone.
-
I imagine the time and geographical distance made them sort of ignore that and Ned to idealize Robert. And while Robert had doubtlessly been chewing off the ears of everyone he had contact with about Lyana, he didn't seem like much of a correspondent, so there was a bubble. However, it is odd that there had been no marriage negotiations for at least Robb and Sansa by this point. It seems pretty common for these to take place many years before the actual weddings in Westeros.
-
Oliver and Diggle getting ready for their kids' wedding. *Diggle spits on his hand and smooths down Oliver's hair. Oliver is agahst* Your own fault man, wouldn't have done it if you had run a comb through it.
-
I assume so since septas and septons follow the Faith of the Seven, which isn't the religion of the North.
-
Green Canary? Also, Connor is definitely not the same age as Mia.

I actually find the show's version of these events easier to deal with than the books. Sansa's attempted rape isn't as systemic as dudes way older than her is in the books. It's horrifying and brutal, but it felt more the result of people being brought to the edge and a reaction to her being one of the nobles, whereas the perving in the book was more a part of her daily routine. Oh, here's a pretty pre-teen, why shouldn't we, men with more power than her routinely be sleezy scumbags to her? And I frankly found Jeyne's situation even more horrifying than Sansa's, because I felt at the time that one of the messages transmitted to me was that I should feel relieved because it wasn't one of the Starks and I really didn't know her aside from minor mentions in Sansa's and Arya's chapters. Which was very much not how I felt. It may not have been what GRRM intended, but there you go.
-
Not to Sansa, but Lollys was rapred fifty times over during the riot in the book. It’s not that it didn’t happen, only that it was repurposed.
