Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality

Another wanderer here. Those two minutes can be pretty long if all I do is stare at myself in the mirror. -
So, Covid is contagious, you don't say, Steve? Like, who knew, right? In all seriousness, I'm glad he's taking it more seriously.

You know, I honestly don't remember hating his Nixon as much as I did this asshole. Oh, and just from cursory perusing of Wikipedia, the real guy was even worse than the depiction. He had Bobby Seale bound and gagged for several days (!!!) , "struggling to get free and managing to make muffled sounds". So, I guess this is one of those cases of truth being stranger than fiction.

I am not exaggerating when I say this has been the most impactful film I've seen in a while. Trying to think about the last one that made this big of an impression, I think it was Jojo Rabbit. Seriously, I just want to recommend this to everyone. I think this is the worst character I've seen Langella play. He so deliberately and obtusely abused the system that he'd profited from by virtue of being born as he was. No one hadcalled him as being biased towards black people before? Those are some mighty small ears you have there, old man. Unfortunately, people like Hoffmann aren't isolated cases. He had to have those who were like minded. Otherwise, he'd never have been elected as judge or given this particual trial. He was playing fast and loose with law and laws of logic the entire time. If his actions weren't so horrifying, they'd be fascinating. There wasn't a miscast actor in the bunch, I think they all embodied their roles extremely well. And the choice of cutting to Abbie's speech worked really well. Those cut don't always function. Some of the more horrifying things for me were 1) Bobby's calm after the news of Fred's murder. They all just knew this could happen to them and it was just execution and nothing else. 2) that girl almost being raped and the police not giving a shit, only to arrest Jerry when he helped her. 3) the police taking off their badges and name tags. That raised the hairs on my neck. I would have liked for more women or at least heftier roles for them, but I'll be grateful that those two we did get were cool. Bernardine talking about sex with black men on the phone was simultaneously hilarious, petrifiying and down to the bones awesome. Can you tell I liked this? I'm off to read up on this case and people involved and check who I haven't recognized in the cast.

Finally watched this on HBO. I wanted to like it more than I did. It feels like there were great parts, but the whole just didn't land. One poster upthread mentioned the quick transits from scene to scene. I'm starting to think that was at least part of the problem. The movie spans years and plenty of runtime, but I'm not sure I really got to know these sisters. Both Saoirse and Florence were great, but there just wasn't enough meat or something. Emma Watson, on the other hand, was a total non-entity in my eyes. Basically, I'd seen all my favorite scenes months ago on YouTube.

Did he say he'd never do it? I wasn't really following the media around the time the show ended.

Yeah, Live Aid rocked in the theatre. A bunch of people stayed during the credits for the songs that played during them. It was like a collective high.

I really feel this is a movie to be seen on the big screen. It sweeps you up in the theatre (at least it did me) even if it's far from perfect. I think this gets lost if you watch it at home.

That's definitely her. I was wondering about the dark haired one.

Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj - General Discussion

Noooo. Why? -
Yeah, I'm all about that now, even though I think I'll have to postpone some (plenty of) my decorating ideas due to the cost of some of the big stuff. But okay, I'll tackle furniture later on and have the basics for starters.

The plan was to change out the outer windows and doors and update the bathroom. Buy some new furniture and then go in increments. Set up the walk in pantry and see what I'll do with the kitchen in 6-12 months. Well, it spread to the kitchen and pantry definitely, and possibly to the entryway and one of the balconies. Currently, I have new piping, the tiles in the bathroom and kitchen have been removed and there are a couple of inside doors that should be moved next week, i.e. walled up and new openings cut out in different places. It seems I'll also need to redo all the wiring, which is another really expensive item and will damage the walls, meaning additional work and cost. I just fear now that they'll damage the hardwood floors. No matter how many DIY videos I watch, I'm not nearly confident enough to do it on my own. And contractors really cost money. At least I do have new outer windows and doors. So that's one item on the list I followed.

@Mellowyellow and @Kymmi, that's great, guys. I'm currently in the process of renovating an apartment before moving in. It's pretty frustrating as construction work naturally gets more complicated and expensive along the way and I'm undertaking some things that weren't part of my original plan. Plus, spending a lot of money is going against my basic instincts, I'm much more of a save up for the rainy day type, so it's challenging that way as well.

Tidying Up With Marie Kondo - General Discussion

IGood to know. I folded my underpants per her guide and I've got to say, I didn't have any more space than with my usual method. I actually ended up stacking them in two rows. They look fine, I'm not going to refold them again, but didn't notice it as an improvement over what I was already doing. I did skip the eliminating part because it's not that long ago that I last did it. -

Obviously very late to this, but I just decided to try this and I have a question for those who use the folding method. Since the clothes are folded so many times, don't they get wrinkly? Don't get me wrong, they look good in the drawers, but do you keed to iron everything when you take it out? Also, I have a question about something brought up in this thread. What do you mean by books turned backwards? Like books turned around so that you see the pages instead of spines? What sense does that make? You wouldn't be able to find what you want without pulling everything out, and even if you slap them on for decorating purposes, what sort of decor is that? -

Alternative History of the German Invasion from season 4. -
Didn't she say he was the one who called it quits?

Was there something on screen that I missed pointing to him needing glasses? Beacuse that was a surprise and at first I thought Tan was giving them to him as solely and accessory. And unrekatedmto this, the murals in the neighborhood were wonderful.

Yeah, that's the part that stood out to me. Like, you need to pee and you have to go through the guys private kitchen to go to his private bathroom. And they both looked the way they did. But he has to be a great trainer and all around decent guy since he had the same customer for over a decade. That's tremendous loyalty. And both the women very clearly loved him. I feel like this episode upended my expectations because I found it to be the funniest in a while and it didn't feel like it would go that way to me. He wears the same ratty gym clothes every day. - Oh, good. I was hoping you would say that. - Don't stress. Just tuck the front of his shirt in. You're not supposed to sit like that in a skirt. I'm just saying. I. was. rolling. Someone mentioned the way they tinted his hairline. I felt it look a whole lot better by the time they showed him in the gym, so I imagine it needs to settle or something. I would so not still be around if I was his in his ex-girlfriend's shoes. He dumped her a year or two ago (can't remember which) to work on himself and then proceeded to do nothing. I do think it was all caused by some issues, both the dumping and the lack of action afterwards, I just don't know that I'd be able to process it like she has. JVN's hair looked gorgeous in his segments talking to the camera. Best in a long while. I really haven't been missing Karamo's overreaching metaphors AT ALL. This one was just like a guy he had stacking boxes in an old season. Who was that? What was the "message" in that one? Can anyone remember?
