  1. I'm waiting for the opportunity and balls to give this answer from The Closer when asked "You think you can do better?": "I'd be ashamed if I couldn't."
  2. I was not keen on this episode as it seemed to contain every possible TV trope with regard to old friends. More when it has aired here...
  3. Michael York was the weak link for me. I enjoyed him in other things, but D'Artagnan is such a dope I just couldn't stand him. I was so relieved not to loathe the D'Artagnan in this adaption, based on ho repellant I've found all of the other portrayals beginning with York. Except for older D'Artagnan in sequels. Oliver Reed is the gold standard Athos imo. Rrrrowr.
  4. Richard Armitage is a good actor and a very, very attractive man with a very sexy voice. I still think he's the most gorgeous man in the world. No matter what else he does, he will always be Guy of Gisbourne to me. Also, I will never--never--forgive Peter Jackson for obscuring the beauty with dwarf make-up. Fuck you, Jackson! God. It's like George Lucas casting Liam Neeson and Ewan MacGregor, two actors never shy about shedding their clothes, and making them remain fully clothed. Idjit. Ahem. Forgive my rant, please.
  5. Reading the appreciations on Deadline and other sites reminded me of two things: How brilliant The Skin Game is. I loved that movie. Garner and Lou Gosset (as he was then called) were fantastic together. And, although I enjoy Victor/Victoria a lot, I wish they'd had the guts to have King kiss "Victor" without being sure he was a she. The bath scene really undermines that moment, imo. Ooops, make that 3 things: He and Donald Pleasance were the most touching part of The Great Escape and they were the only ones whose fates I really cared about. OK, 4 things (no one expects the Spanish Inquistiion and their 2...3...4 most important weapons...). I recall Tom Selleck talking about hard it was for him to get a break in TV because he's so tall, and so many leading men are short and self-conscious about it. It was Garner who gave him his first big break with the recurring character of Lance (?) on The Rockford Files. I think that and an appearance on Murder, She Wrote led to his getting the role of Magnum.
  6. If it was the skeleton of a shark, I wouldn't be surprised if he jumped it.
  7. That's because facts have a well-known liberal bias (TM Colbert).
  8. Maverick memories. When I was in college, the local UHF station* played Maverick reruns in the afternoons. I would skip class to go home and watch them. When Bret Maverick started, it was on opposite another show I wanted to watch... I think it was QED starring a pre-L&O Sam Waterston. And this is why I bought a VCR. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford one until a few years later. *Before there was TVLand, there was UHF. A lot of local UHF stations became UPN affiliates and then whatever UPN turned into. They generally showed reruns of very old shows during the afternoons.
  9. What I particularly valued about Garner is that he had the ability to be masculine without being obnoxious. His characters are men, not men-children, and he never had to blow shit up to prove himself. His characters were rarely as dismissive toward women as most at the time (exceptions exist, of course).
  10. I wanted to love Viva Laughlin because I love and adore Blackpool, but the translation to American from British was not done well. Even if it had been as brilliant as the original, it wouldn't have succeeded here because Cop Rock is the automatic American reference, and CR is a (undeserved though it may be) punch line.
  11. Was that because I mentioned it in the Robbie Amell episode topic? I want it to be because I mentioned it!
  12. My TV signal cut out after Scenes from a Hat so I'll have to catch the repeat or find it online.
  13. I like them all and I refuse to choose.
  14. So happy the show is back! Doctor Whoves is disturbing. I was hoping the Doctor WHOM was real.
  15. Yes! I was so hoping to see Hans, too! Would even the World Cup win counter his usual message of bleakness and endless despair?
  16. Two from comedy routines that I think more than I say: From Dave Attell: I don't have to drink to have a good time. I have to drink to stop the voices in my head. From Ron White on being arrested while drunk: At that point, I had the right to remain silent. But I no longer had the ability.
  17. Also Robin, Son of a Slayer, from Buffy.
  18. He's supposed to be in an episode of Doctor Who this year...I hope it's announced before the episode because otherwise I won't know it's him.
  19. Show, it is no use having Donna tell me what a swell guy Gordon is if you're going to keep showing him being...him. It doesn't convince me of anything except that Donna must've been out of her damn mind the entire time they were in college and is now desperately trying to convince herself he isn't the complete drag on her and the rest of the world that is he so obviously is.
  20. This is the one that made me want a prequel with Treville and Richelieu.
  21. So...not going with someone hot. *sigh*. Not much reason to watch now.
  22. I agree. I absolutely loathed that aspect of the series, even more than the stupid endless triangle. At least that mess didn't undermine the whole essence of the series. The Jacob storyline trivialized everything else that happened and all of the characters' lives.
  23. That is unfortunate, to have a name that highlights your speech impediment. It also makes me think of The Life of Brian when the crowd is baiting the oblivious Pilate: "Vewy well, I shall fwee Bwian!"
