  1. The one that I hated most was the dimwit husband hacking away while the whole family is trying to watch something on TV. So the wife has to get up, miss whatever they're all trying to watch, and give the idiot the cough medicine. Can he not get himself out of the room instead of ruining everyone else's enjoyment? Is he unfamiliar with the exotic concept of cough medicine? Does his wife possess the only key to the ultra-top-secret cough medicine cabinet? Isn't there another TV in the house? Why, why, why is the dunce spoiling the night for his whole family?
  2. Hart to Hart could work, but they'd have to tone down the conspicuous consumption a bit. It would be nice to see an already happily married couple working together, thus eliminating the endless will-they-won't-they crap that's endemic lately.
  3. Returning to the paycheck issue briefly. I'm paid bi-weekly with direct deposit. I think only temporary workers, like students on work-study, get paper checks and they can probably have direct deposit if they want.
  4. It would have a bit more impact if I knew who Kevin Hart is. I do, actually, but not enough to recognize him or his voice immediately and since he's not named in the ad (at least not aloud) I had no idea who this guy who was lecturing me was.
  5. I'm glad Freedom Summer gave more airtime to the courage of the African Americans, especially the ones who lived in Mississippi, than some documentaries on the subject. Not to downplay the amazing courage of all of the organizers and participants of both races who went there to register voters and teach in the schools, etc.. I'm watching this week's episode of CNN's The Sixties, which is also about the civil rights movement and uses some of the same clips and interviewees. How anyone can listen to the "I have a dream" speech and not get chills, I don't know. Even on the 1,000th hearing.
  6. I'll let someone whose read it more recently than I have address most of that, but my memory is that Athos, at least, is serving under an assumed name (which is why they almost lost me in a later episode when someone addresses him as if his birth name was Athos). Their opposite numbers at the time were the Cardinal's Guards, which is what Cyrano de Bergerac was.
  7. There were a couple of episodes that only aired in Canada, too, if I remember right. It was heading into over-contrivance toward the end (everyone's connected, secret society with labyrinth logo) but I was willing to follow it down the rabbit hole a little while longer.
  8. Friar Tuck as Aramis?!?!?!? I must see this.
  9. More important, I think, than what he's been in is that he seems like a nice guy, he's funny, self-effacing, cute, and likeable.
  10. All this chicken fat talk has reminded me of the Planet Fitness ad:
  11. Re: Easter eats. I'm from WNY, which had large Polish and Italian populations when I was growing up. One of things I miss at Easter where I live now is the butter lambs in the grocery store. My family usually had ham. And deviled eggs. Always the deviled eggs.
  12. The Telegraph weighs in on which version is the best, inspired by the newest. The Lester ones will always be my favorites, I think, but I hated hated hated the stupid slapstick. But Brian Blessed is the perfect Porthos! I must see it now. The International Business Times offers an opinion as well.
  13. I was amazed Chris didn't blush a becoming shade of crimson when Ron gave his ending to the fan fiction.
  14. Please report on your cable cutting, @Abra Came. I went cable-free a few years ago because Comcast, just the starter package with DVR, was over $100 where I live. I did keep Comcast as my ISP because I was happy with the service. I made a spreadsheet (stop staring!) of all the shows I regularly watched and how I could see them: Amazon Prime, network website, Hulu, Netflix. I also had a gizmo that allowed me to use my laptop as a DVR but the video quality was appalling, so I stopped that. Eventually, I got Direct TV because I really love the convenience of the DVR and the flow of TV. Also, Direct TV's equivalent package was 1/3 the price of Comcast. Now I'm the mood to explore options. Netflix is OK but it seems like all the movies I look up are only available on DVD and they don't have shows quickly enough, if at all. It's good for binge-watching other shows. Or it would be, if the connection didn't drop so often.
  15. 1973 fan, here, too. There is no Athos but Reed for me. Those films are the only times I've enjoyed Charlton Heston. If only DArtagnan and the whole Constance plot hadn't been there, they'd be perfect.
  16. My favorite part of Ed Helms' report about "a 78 year old man shot in the face by VP Cheney", aside from the repetition, may be one of the headlines: Man's Face Intercepts Vice President's Bullet."
  17. Greg Proops also made a quip about "scripted improv." My theory is that before a show the writers and the comedians brainstorm for the fast games. Last night was fabulous! "Slotrow Hornbath" made me snort.
  18. Only On TV is there something wrong with you if you have no interest in attending your high school reunion.
  19. Last night was much better than most of last week's episodes, imo. Busy Philips was funny, which was unexpected.
  20. There's an embedded video in this Daily Kos story. Start around the 1:50 mark. ETA: Showing the Megyn Kelly/Cheney interview.
  21. Season 3 DVDs and Blu-ray are available for pre-order. Release date is 9/2. ETA: TV.com says the premiere will be Tues. 9/23 at 10 pm.
  22. Darth music but no Penguin bwak? Disappointed.
