  1. I will say this, and only this, in defense of Kirk--Shatner had very pretty eyes.
  2. This episode made me realize why I dislike Clara as a companion. It is partly what's been said above--no sense of awe--but it's also that her part-time traveling and especially in this episode the call home to Danny make everything so prosaic and everyday. Being in constant contact with her normal life, either by phone or because she's making the daily commute destroys the liminal nature of the Doctor, the TARDIS, adventure, everything that is, and should be, completely different from the companion's ordinary life.
  3. See, I think Ben would've been much more sarcastic, but I was so happy for even the faint echo that I don't care, I just want more. Now I'm going back to my happy little world where Harold and Ben were separated at birth but ultimately find each other and take down Samaritan together.
  4. I suppose the Machine could become the virus. Rather than destroying or converting Samaritan, the Machine could take it over, sort of graft itself on.
  5. Or where the Highlander immortals kept their swords.
  6. My local PBS station is running the Colbert-featuring Company on Great Performances tonight. Check your local listings. ETA: Not that it helps if you have fucking WEDH in CT because once again they played a promo and then showed something else entirely. Exhibit B in Why I don't pledge. Exhibit A is that damned "members choice" thing they stick in the guide and never, ever explain what they're going to show. So much hate for them. WNPR, on the other hand, has my hand-earned cash.
  7. Gloria needs to be on every show on TV.
  8. It was definitely a good half hour (or 22 minutes), all the more so for not having a guest star. Onr thing, though. Did the woman on the left whose bag was used in What's In the Bag, seem completely out of it? I also wonder if women going to the taping are beginning to bring weird things, or or also planning on attending "Let's Make Deal." Because handcuffs seem a bit random to just be walking around with in one's purse.
  9. I love @midnight. Like TDS and TCR, it has its ups and downs, mostly depending on the panel line-up, but lately it makes me laugh even more than Jon and Stephen.
  10. I wouldn't go so far as to say GA is better, but GH is not the skeptical debunking team it used to be. Last night's episode is on the DVR and I'll watch it this weekend, just to skip past the "what was that?"--dramatic music--cut to commercial--"What was that?!" reveal.
  11. The only Adams actor I'm interested in seeing is William Daniels, who has played both John and Sam. And John Quincy. Frankly, I'm only surprised he didn't also play Abigail. Last night was the first opportunity to watch this episode and I really enjoyed it. It's Hawley, right? Jenny said "Holly", I thought, so when both Abbie and Ichabod said "Hawley" I wasn't sure if it was regional accents at play or if I misheard the first time. Anyway...he can come back. I'd be fine with that. Re: ID. They never followed up on the call to Oxford from last season, did they? Morales called and it was confirmed (by who, we don't know) that Crane was on staff there.
  12. Oh, thaaaaaanks, Prevailing Wind. Now I'll be humming about the Golden Helmet of Mambrino all day.
  13. Pjxf99, I haven't noticed Chris repeating himself that much. It might be generic to game show hosts? It also reminds me of Johnny Carson reading his Karnack envelopes and Letterman at times.
  14. It's really all the others were overdressed--the episode began with Reese commenting on how hot it was.
  15. KindredSpirit, don't harsh my buzz! You're probably right (definitely so about that ending) and Ben would've brought more snark and sinisterness (word?) anyway, but beggars can't be choosers, any port in a storm, I take what I can get, etc.
  16. When Shaw suggested blowing up the facility in New Jersey, Root said it was only one of many server farms. And since it housed the crucial servers that are now protecting them, it needed to remain intact.
  17. I thought I saw Jason's hand shake at the very start.
  18. Indeed, Checkov's rocket launcher is a well-known literary trope. I know other stuff happened, but holyshitHarrychannelingBenI'minlove is pretty much all I remember right now.
  19. Isn't Francois supposed to be in something about a female pirate, soonish? ETA: it's called Red Flag, it will be a limited series, and he'll be the male lead opposite Maggie Q. The news was from spring, and I didn't see a prospective air date.
  20. The Marlborough Man was my second guess, but I think the iconic actor died a while ago and I didn't know if the MM was still used in ads.
  21. My first reaction to FJ was "Who is Smokey the Bear" because lung cancer=smoking=smoke, and I think I read that Smokey was retired last year as a spokes-ursine. But as soon as I thought of it, I knew it was wrong. Since I made it through about 15 minutes of one episode of Breaking Bad (ooh, another middle-aged white guy anti-hero...how groundbreaking...) I had no chance at the correct answer.
  22. Jason really suffered from the comparison to John Oliver, and the interview with Wyatt was terrible. Didn't they talk at all before the show about what to cover, joke set-ups, and the like? Sam's field piece was infuriating and frightening.
  23. Last night was a fun panel! The Tindr portion...Eddie Pepitone's response to fuck, marry, or kill was just hilarious, as was Maria Bamford's response to the first Tindr line.
  24. I for one welcome our new feline overlords.
