I really didn't understand what either of them saw in the other. For that matter, Miranda's "journey" as shown to the viewers was incredibly easy and seamless. We saw virtually no strife or pain. It was just boom, I'm into Che, I'm peacing out on my marriage, my kid, my work, school, and friends. We saw maybe 2-3 minutes of her conversation with Steve and that was it. I realize they couldn't show us everything, but they showed us nothing. In this episode, it was jarring how happy Charlotte was for Miranda. Charlotte who always loved love, also really liked Steve. I find it hard to believe that Miranda's bailing on her marriage to hook up with Che received Charlotte's blessing. I also don't think Miranda and Che are actually in love. We didn't see them falling in love. We saw Miranda falling in lust/infatuation. You have to show, don't tell, the viewers. The whole storyline was poorly executed.

The Fug Girls ranted about this in their Episode 9 recap.

The once refined Charlotte has been so shrill for all 10 episodes. I'm not sure if KD has been doing theater or if she's just decided to play Charlotte as manic.

Furthermore, how is it that a pilot is being shot in one day? It's as though these TV showrunners don't understand how TV is made. They obviously don't understand what a podcast is.

+1 to all of this.

Re: Kevin, I don't see any way that Sophie would not be in the "getting ready" room with Kate, Madison and Beth at Kate's wedding if she were Kevin's partner at that point. My money is still on Madison, especially with her "I told you 12 times this morning!" comment. I really don't like the whole Cassidy overseeing house construction plot though. That's an excuse for her to still be around. I also don't understand Nicky's qualifications to oversee construction.

For his sake I hope John Corbett steers far away from this shit show. What they did to Aidan in the 2nd movie was bad enough.

I thought they said "that's a boys name" and I was like, uh, your mom's name is Tommy...

You may be onto something. I've been wondering why CN claimed that Miranda is going through a mid-life crisis. 55 is a little late for that. I say this as a 52-y-o myself.

I don't know about LGBTQ+ orgs, but I posted a link not too far upthread to a commentary written by a non-binary writer on AV Club. And another further upthread that had commentary from several queer individuals. Generally my takeaway is this is not the representation they were looking for.

Well, there are certain politicians who insist the sky is bright orange and although we can all see it's blue, plenty of people believe the sky is orange because they are that suggestible. Perhaps the writers are hoping that if they repeat themselves enough times with enough conviction, they can convince the viewers of what they are saying. I think they are privately sweating the poor reception and saying whatever they can think of to get themselves a second season. I bet they thought they'd be renewed by now. Chances are they left the "plotlines" (such as they are) intentionally hanging in order to hedge their bets.

And Just Like That… we’ve got a Miranda Hobbes problem Good perspective from AV Club.

I did not laugh once while watching episode 3. The premise is interesting but the execution is...not good.

Well, I guess we'll never know what happened in Cleveland. Hey, the guy from the Prada store owns a club in Brooklyn now!

How I Met Your Father - General Discussion
Jillybean replied to BetterButter's topic in How I Met Your Father
Be that as it may, it is well-known that they've had the series end game mapped out seasons in advance. So my point was, I have at least some confidence that the ending won't be a total shit show like HIMYM's was. That being said, TIU isn't over yet so who knows how satisfying the ending will be... -
SATC vs AJLT: Compare & Contrast….what were they thinking?
Jillybean replied to Scarlett45's topic in And Just Like That
For me (close in age to the three remaining main characters), SATC had many relatable themes, plotlines, etc, while AJLT has none. -

Wow, I had no idea! Thanks for sharing the link. This ending was just a million times better and I bet they wish they had gone with it, regardless of what they say on the record. Their choice of ending has lived in on infamy as one of the worst series finales of all time. -
How I Met Your Father - General Discussion

I enjoyed the third episode, though I just don't care for the British dude. For all of us who are squeamish given the HIMYM finale debacle, the co-creators and writers for HIMYF are also writers/showrunners for This Is Us. I have faith that they know the ending already and will work backward depending on how many episodes they are given. -
I couldn't figure out any reason for Owen and Marjan to be cheerfully dueting on "Breakdown" unless their vehicle was going to actually, you know, break down. Enough with this endless ice storm already! Also why is everyone just driving around in that weather like it's nothing? It's Austin, not Buffalo.

S01.E08: Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
Jillybean replied to Aulty's topic in And Just Like That
I posted a link in the media thread that had a few quotes from queer people (all women, IIRC) and one of them mentioned how great it would be if we saw the intelligent, competent, kick-ass Miranda from SATC dealing with this whole divorce/new sexual identity, etc scenario, rather than how it's being depicted by this Invasion of the Body Snatchers version of her. I thought that was a very good point. Another mentioned this is very "U-Haul behavior" of Miranda. It was interesting to read how even though there is queer representation on the show, it's not necessarily being done in the way queer people would have liked. -

Don't forget she had to have her Tattletale rag! -
The agony and ecstasy of Miranda’s coming out in the 'Sex and the City' reboot Interesting article with quite a few people offering queer perspectives.

The tagline is literally "A New Chapter of Sex and the City." How is that a spinoff? I would tell her that word doesn't mean what she thinks it means. -
