I'm watching the repeat of the original episode and noticed that in all the photos they show, Alina is hiding her hands (wearing gloves, tucked into a feather boa, etc.) and in the burlesque photo shoot she is posed "mermaid" style with her legs bent to the side. Perhaps Caleb never saw anything that showed the extent of her disability and only saw her beautiful face and ample cleavage. Not that I'm excusing his behavior, but he might have been just as shocked as I was when I finally "met" her for the first time when she came out of the dressing room.
