  1. Britbox doesn't have ads. Also, some British shows on Hulu or Prime/Freevee have a few minutes cut from the episodes while Britbox has the full versions.
  2. It's happening! 🙌 Warner Bros Sets ‘Constantine’ Sequel; Keanu Reeves & Francis Lawrence To Reunite, Akiva Goldsman Scripting & Producing With Bad Robot’s JJ Abrams & Hannah Minghella Now where's the Spy sequel?
  3. Finally able to watch the latest season now that it's on BritBox. I'm not the biggest fan of the more sentimental episodes like Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room or The 12 Days of Christine, but I really liked Merrily, Merrily. And as a crime drama buff, I thought Nine Lives Kat was fun. Kid/Nap was probably my least favorite, though I thought the split screen was clever. Anyway, I'm glad they ended on a hopeful note, especially since most of Wise Owl was so unsettling.
  4. I was finally able to see this and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's amazing it works as well as it does. I know some think Glen Powell would've been a better Goose, but I thought the casting was pretty much perfect. I especially enjoyed Jon Hamm being perpetually fed up with Maverick and Charles Parnell quietly rooting for him. And what a presence and voice Parnell has. No wonder he was featured in the trailer. I also thought Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly had surprisingly nice chemistry. I'm not especially interested in flying, but some of the scenes were jaw-dropping. There's an overhead view of the Darkstar approaching Mach 10 that's just stunning. And the scene with Maverick and Rooster spiraling together toward the ground, and another near the end when the enemy pilot pulls his fighter up perpendicular to the ground and spins to avoid a missile were incredibly thrilling. What a ride!
  5. I just watched 7 Days on Hulu which I enjoyed it even though it was kind of uneven. It helps that I love Karan Soni and Geraldine Viswanathan because it's really just the 2 of them on screen the whole time. Lockdown starts during their first date and he has to stay with her until he can get a rental car to get home. The last 30 minutes or so takes a more serious turn that didn't really work for me. The leads are cute together, but a little weird because I'm so used to seeing Geraldine paired off with Daniel Radcliffe on Miracle Workers where she hardly interacts with Karan.
  6. What a wonderful surprise this was! I didn't think it was possible for Pedro Pascal to be more delightful, but even though this movie is a loving tribute to Cage and makes great use of him, Pascal was my favorite part. The deleted scene on the DVD has a final confrontation between the two in the style of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari that's worth watching if you haven't already. It looks like this didn't do great in theaters, so I hope more people discover it now that it's on video/streaming like I did.
  7. I think so. It looks like Ben Miles is also in this even though it's not listed on his IMDB credits yet either. I think I spotted Alastair Mackenzie, too. I'm usually not interested in prequels so hadn't planned on watching this despite liking Diego Luna and Rogue One, but the trailer looks amazing. I didn't realize that the show would have a much broader scope and depict the growing rebellion, but I love that angle especially with Tony Gilroy writing. I hope it doesn't spend too much time on Cassian's childhood. Fingers crossed the show manages to live up to the trailer.
  8. I'm having trouble believing that's an official trailer. It looks fan-made. They should've just let Bryan Fuller have another go.
  9. I didn't like it but didn't hate it as much as Slate's Dana Stevens (Netflix’s Persuasion Isn’t Just Bad Austen. It’s One of the Worst Movies in Years, yikes). I didn't like Cosmo Jarvis as Wentworth, Dakota Johnson mugging for the camera, or the pacing. This was under 2 hours but felt longer. There were a few Bridget Jones-like moments that made me cringe, like when she yells for Frederick out the window. Thank goodness they didn't have Wentworth and Louisa stumble across Anne eavesdropping on them while she was mid-pee. A lot of the dialogue lacked subtlety. Also, what was with William Elliot marrying Mrs. Clay at the end? Richard E. Grant was underused, but I did like the Musgroves and Henry Golding.
  10. I was so excited to watch the French version of And Then There Were None on PBS titled They Were Ten or Ils étaient dix, but I'm on the fourth of six episodes and it's so disappointing. They've changed the time period (modern day), setting (tropical island), and the characters' occupations and backstories. That would be fine except the characters are unbearably stupid and the killer is obvious from the first episode even before we know who's who. The action on the island is also clumsily interrupted by flashbacks to the characters' past misdeeds and--even worse--scenes of two bickering cops on the mainland trying to figure out what's going on. I'll still watch to the end to see if they change that too, but this is making me appreciate the 2015 miniseries even more than I already did. ETA: To balance out the negativity, after being lukewarm on the first episode, I'm really enjoying season 2 of Grace on Britbox. It helps that Craig Parkinson is a regular now, that guest stars include people like James D'Arcy and Arthur Darvill, and that the relationship between Grace and his second in command is genuinely very sweet. I could do without the missing wife subplot, though.
  11. Amazon Prime is advertising a bunch of channel subscriptions for .99/mo for 2 months as part of their Prime Day deals. Paramount+, Starz, Showtime, AMC+, Epix, PBS, Acorn, etc. are available. I'm tempted to give Hallmark Movies Now a go.
  12. Maybe they're keeping it vague because in the vein of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes the spinoff will be a prequel series following Henry/Vecna's early adventures in the Upside Down. Kidding, but after finishing this season I still have no idea what the spinoff could be about.
  13. I'm late to this show, but wow is it a gem. Beyond the Aquila Rift and Zima Blue are my favorites from the first season, but I also enjoyed the more lighthearted ones. No standouts from season 2, but season 3 has been the best so far IMO. As everyone has said, Jibaro is beautiful and haunting. I also loved Night of the Mini Dead. The adorable miniatures depicting an accelerated zombie apocalypse were amazing and the squeaky voiced dialogue cracked me up. I really hope this doesn't get cancelled like so many other Netflix shows have been.
  14. It looked very Red Dawn. I was kind of annoyed that this didn't come up until late in the game. I know there was a lot going on, but the way his connection to the Mind Flayer/Vecna was only brought up again at the end felt kind of cheap. Is that what happened? I thought it might be an existing creature that he had taken control of or something. I found that part a little unclear, but my attention was drifting a bit at that point. I'm tempted to do a rewatch of the whole show after the reveals this season to see if anything contradicts what we've learned or if it puts some events in a different light. After loving the rest of the season, I found this episode a bit underwhelming. The pacing felt off to me. It seemed strange how there were a few scenes that faded to black for a few seconds before resuming. I'm still excited for next season, but this didn't work as well for me as I had hoped.
  15. I appreciated the nod to Alien Resurrection with Demogorgon experiments, but couldn't figure out what was swirling around that big container. I loled at Eddie in the Michael Myers mask, but his moment in the field with Dustin seemed off to me. The other character interactions this episode were great, though. I especially loved Lucas asking Max if he was part of her happiest moment, and Will getting some intense scenes with both Mike and El. Owens lost some points in part 1 when he sprang Papa on El without even a "somehow Brenner is back" warning, but he redeemed himself a little by putting El in control of her choices in the end. I hope he's ok. I hope the Russia stuff doesn't drag on much longer, but I'm enjoying this new dynamic between Joyce and Hopper. Yuri can go, though.
  16. I share the skepticism for this adaptation, but I love the casting of Richard E. Grant as Sir Walter Elliot. I'll probably give it a shot just for him.
  17. I have AMC+. The interface isn't great, but I was able to get a deal for something like $25 for a year. It has all the Shudder + IFC content, which was why I signed up. There's been 1 technical issue during the 3 months I've had it, but they resolved it relatively quickly. I'm curious about Interview with the Vampire, but I'm really excited about the Dark Winds series coming out next week.
  18. I agree. I liked Noah and Will (Elizabeth and Darcy), but their chemistry and the development of their relationship didn't work as well for me. On the other hand, when Charlie was watching Howie singing his heart out during the karaoke scene, 😍. It was also pretty funny and I'm a sucker for found family stories, so I had a good time with Fire Island. ETA: I was listening to the most recent episode of the Keep It! podcast with Ira Madison III and Louis Virtel during which they discussed the movie (they both loved it) and thought it was interesting that they called it an almost journalistic portrayal of what happens at a gay resort and that if anything, it was toned down to the point of quaintness.
  19. I didn't think about it until someone in a podcast I listen to asked why Murray was trying to obscure where they were calling from to find out more about Hopper when the people who gave them that number obviously already knew where they were because they sent the package to Joyce's home. That also raises the question of how they got her address since Hopper wouldn't have known where Joyce moved. I rewatched the postal delivery scene and it didn't look like the package had been forwarded from the old address.
  20. There's also the moment in the classroom where the girl sitting next to Will tries to play footsie and he pulls away. It could just mean that he's not interested in her specifically or that he didn't want to do that in front of other people, but I also thought it was interesting that Will is seen as a socially acceptable romantic prospect despite associating with the class's favorite bullying target. I remember reading that Amybeth McNulty from Anne with an E was going to be on the show, but I didn't realize until I looked at the episode's cast list that she plays Robin's crush Vickie. And the actress who plays Chrissy is Casper Van Dien's daughter.

Barnes & Noble Being Sued in Virginia Beach Over GENDER QUEER, COURT OF MIST AND FURY
  22. Lol at Officer Callahan saying they shouldn't have started out their questioning with Max because she was kind of mean, and Eddie trying and then giving up on explaining the stains on his mattress. I like how with Murray in Russia, it fell to Robin and Eddie to try to play matchmaker for Steve and Nancy. The bullying and torture scenes this season were hard to watch, so I'm glad they didn't make the rabbit that 001 tortured very realistic looking. On the other hand, I thought the de-aged El worked really well. It helps that they used that effect sparingly. I don't like that they brought Brenner back or that Owens didn't have much interaction with El after bringing her to the bunker. I thought he could've at least apologized for springing that surprise on her and explaining how Brenner survived and why they needed him. I've really enjoyed this season and can't wait until July for the last 2 episodes.
  23. I was wondering what kind of trauma the fish that Vecna attacked in the lake was harboring, but I guess he or his minions still need to eat. It's too bad that Mr. Clarke doesn't seem likely to show up this season, but based on the electromagnetic fields talk at least Dustin and Lucas are still benefiting from his teaching. I'm glad the kids' parents are banding together. Poor Mrs. Henderson looked terrified during that town meeting. The image of Steve floating above the gate was beautiful. Suzie's house looks like a lot, but I liked her dad and enjoyed seeing how all the kids are pursuing their own interests (if periodically turning off the power and hissing qualifies as an interest). I don't think I appreciated until this season how good this show is at introducing and establishing characters even when they're given relatively little screentime.
  24. I'm glad Will got a nice moment with Mike, but I was also hoping we'd see more of his relationship with El this season now that they've been living together for a while. I don't buy that the famously paranoid Murray would ingest anything offered by Yuri, but I admit I've been a bit bored by the Russia storyline so wasn't paying close attention to those scenes. I enjoyed the Silence of the Lambs vibes at the asylum and the makeup on Robert Englund was surprisingly disturbing. They're really amping up the horrific imagery this season.
