Has anyone read Poirot and Me by David Suchet? I keep meaning to pick it up but I just have too many other books on the go right now.

I just watched Rye Lane and thought it was delightful. The leads are incredibly charming. It's about two people who randomly meet while they're both getting over recent breakups, then wander around the city for the day getting to know one another while going on minor adventures. They hit a snag, of course, but it's all really well done. There's also a surprising--though very brief--cameo that felt like a sort of passing of the torch moment. At the other end of the spectrum is What's Your Number? from 2011 starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans. I gave it a shot because someone recommended it and I like both actors, but wow did I hate it. The premise was stupid and the characters were awful. I don't know how it managed to score as high as a 6 on IMDB.

Mike Flanagan's last few series didn't work for me, but I'll give this a shot to see Carla Gugino wreak vengeance on terrible rich people. I did enjoy Doctor Sleep and thought Kyliegh Curran and Carl Lumbly were great in that, so I'm interested to see what they do in this. Bruce Greenwood is much more believable as Mary McDonnell's twin than Frank Langella would have been.

I just finished Hi Honey, I'm Homo!: Sitcoms, Specials, and the Queering of American Culture by Matthew Baume and would definitely recommend it. It helped that I watched a lot of the shows he discusses (Golden Girls, Friends, Ellen, etc.), but it was also interesting to learn about the ones I wasn't as familiar with (All in the Family, Barney Miller). The author also has a YouTube channel, so some of the material might not be new to you if you've watched his videos.

Yes, I'm not a jazz fan anyway so found the awkwardly inserted singing scenes especially grating. It also bugged me that Ridley broke into a few of the suspects' places. He may not be a police officer anymore, but he is working with them in some official capacity so wouldn't his illegal entries potentially jeopardize any prosecution? I do like the DI's wife and their son, though. It's nice to see a detective character with a happy family situation for a change.

I've heard people speculating about that and I don't think it would improve the movie much for me. If anything, I might be more annoyed if that's the way they go. I'll see part 2 regardless and hope it works better for me.

This is one of my favorite movie series and I was even more excited after the glowing reviews started coming out, but I was disappointed. I don't understand what they were doing with Ilsa. Everything involving her seemed underdeveloped: she barely had any lines, I didn't buy that Grace seemed better able to hold off Gabriel, and the team's reaction to her death was strangely muted--even considering the threat they were facing. If working around Rebecca Ferguson's schedule was the issue, surely they could've come up with a better way to explain her limited presence. I enjoyed Hayley Atwell, but the way it feels like they just swapped her in has kind of soured me on her character. I started to get worried about the movie during that government office scene at the beginning with the clunky exposition dump. And I'm usually able to shrug off issues with the plot because the other elements are so much fun, but there were a lot of things that bugged me in this one. But whatever, I'll still see part 2. And there was some great stuff here like the sequence with the yellow Fiat in Rome, the return of Kittridge, and Shea Whigham doggedly tracking Ethan only to lose him every time.

I used to have Hulu's basic plan and even though tv shows had multiple ad breaks, movies didn't have any until maybe a year(?) or so ago but someone correct me if I'm wrong. I remember being really annoyed by that and surprised that there weren't more complaints about it. My current Peacock plan is similar in that tv shows have ad breaks, but the movies I've watched may have an ad upfront but then run uninterrupted. I also got a $20 annual deal last September and when I logged into Peacock just now, it's offering me the deal again.

Just FYI that Amazon is offering a bunch of channels as part of their Prime Day deals. I think tomorrow is the last day to sign up. I feel like Peacock is underrated because between hosting some of my favorite recent shows (We are Lady Parts, Mrs. Davis, Pokerface) and premiering new movies shortly after their theater runs (Knock at the Cabin, Polite Society, etc), it's probably the streamer I watch the most. Hulu used to be my favorite, but I haven't used it much since they started showing ads during movies.

It sounds like it could be The Song Remains the Same, episode 2 in season 2.

Milestone Moments: All The Celebrity Vitals

I just found out last month that Tubi is owned by Fox ☹️. Why must they ruin everything? They certainly weren't his biggest roles, but I watched Indian Summer and Edward Scissorhands a lot when I was younger and Alan Arkin was such an understated, warm presence in those movies. -
I just listened to an interview with Charlie Brooker on The Watch podcast and thought it was interesting that he said he wrote Demon 79 first and originally had it in mind to do Red Mirror episodes for the whole season. He doesn't get too in depth about any of the episodes, but does talk about how some of the concepts evolved and what inspired some of them. It's worth a listen imo.

Paapa Essiedu and Anjana Vasan were fantastic (I'm thrilled to see her in other stuff but really want We Are Lady Parts season 2). And, like Hated in the Nation, this episode had a cop duo that I'd enjoy seeing more of. After Nida failed to kill the politician, I thought the reveal might be that Gaap had manipulated her into that position to facilitate Smart's rise to power so I'm glad it took the strangely satisfying route it did instead. Apart from his lie about going away if she just said yes, he was surprisingly truthful--even when Nida asked if the strangler's brother was a bad man. The stakes for Nida accidentally smearing her blood on a tile and agreeing to something she didn't understand in a moment of panic were absurdly high. That guiding her was entrusted to a first-timer who didn't even know the rules was also a bit much, but it worked for me to the point where I'd count this as one of my top 5 Black Mirror episodes.

This was fun, even though the reveal kind of made my head hurt. I like Rob Delaney, but when Joan described her irresistible ex and he showed up I didn't really buy it, so I laughed when they had him played by Ben Barnes in the show because that's definitely more like what I imagined. I'm glad we got a surprisingly sweet ending to kick the season off with. ETA: I liked how in the after credits scene we see the real Joan in the church and unlike the Annie Murphy version, she's much more subdued and keeps apologizing so that version of Joan wasn't accurate either.

I just watched the trailer for the new Tyler Sheridan show starring Zoe Saldaña. I know Nicole Kidman's had a fair amount of work done, but I hope it's the makeup/styling that's mostly at fault here because she's unrecognizable. She only gets a few seconds of screen time and the lighting is dark, though, so maybe I'm being unfair. And IMDB featured Sylvester Stallone on the homepage and I had to do a double-take:

Like a lot of people here, I've been eagerly awaiting the Sleepy Hollow portion of Maureen Ryan's new book: ‘Sleepy Hollow’ Created an “Us Against Her” Environment for Star Nicole Beharie, ‘Burn It Down’ Book Claims I really like what she says about why she wrote the book and can't wait to read it:

Noooo! ‘Lockwood & Co.’ Canceled at Netflix After One Season

I agree that this show is ridiculous but mostly watchable. What made me laugh during this episode was when Nadia is messaging the mystery person and they ask "is that really you?" and she just replies "yes" and apparently that's confirmation enough for whoever that was.

I almost gave up on this show after the episode where Emily throws up in Rick's mailbox, which I hated, but kept going because I liked the cast and the possibility of seeing them interact with cute animals. It's not great, but it has grown on me. I dislike the love triangle, though, which predictably had Shred realize his feelings for Emily just as she seriously started to consider Rick. I also don't understand why both this show and Ted Lasso are pushing relationships between bosses and their employees. Why?

S01.E03: A Baby with Wings, a Sad Boy with Wings and a Great Helmet

In this episode and the previous one, different people say that Simone has been in a convent for the past 10 years but I thought the flashback to her romantic relationship with Wiley is supposed to take place 7 or 8 years ago. Or did I get the timeline wrong, or maybe they were just rounding up? It was fun to see Tim McInnerny and Tom Wlaschiha is always welcome. -
Reddit AMA with author Jonathan Stroud: https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/137ln2n/im_jonathan_stroud_author_of_lockwood_co_scarlett/ There are a lot of questions about renewal. He says there should be news on that soon.

I remember Henshall being on the sci-fi action show Primeval where he was a professor investigating strange phenomena or something, so still in the same vein I guess. I'm enjoying Dalgleish more this season, but wish they spent more time fleshing out the title character. I also liked this season of The Bay, but it seemed like too much was going on and some developments that would've been interesting to see play out happened off screen. Grace is still just ok. The ongoing drama about his missing wife is tedious. And while the season 2 actor is fine, I would've preferred to have James D'Arcy return as the new boss.

I was poking around IMDB and saw that Selfie creator Emily Kapnek has a show in pre-production called Rhona who Lives by the River with Karen Gillan and John Cho. It's categorized as Animation, Musical and "Follows Rhona #3, the third-most-interesting Rhona in town, whose life is utterly dull. After an accident, she receives the ability to make her own wishes come true."

I thought Murder on the Orient Express was ok and gave up on Death on the Nile 20 minutes in, but the horror vibe in the trailer has me interested dammit. I wonder if we'll get a story behind the return of the mustache or if this is meant to take place before Death on the Nile.
