  1. Justin Long was a good choice for that role. It works in the same way as the casting for the guys Cassie goes after in Promising Young Woman. I love The Orphange, but it's kind of a tough watch.
  2. I don't think this will stick with me, but it was a compelling watch. The ending felt a bit rushed and I didn't find it as emotionally affecting as intended. They did do a good job of leaving an opening for another season while still providing enough closure that this would still be reasonably satisfying if this is all we get.
  3. I haven't stuck with most of the recent crime dramas I've tried over the past month, but this one has me hooked so far. It helps that it has some horror elements like the enigmatic kid and the suggestion that something supernatural is going on. And Jessica Raine and the actor playing her son are great. I'm less interested in Nikesh Patel's detective character but I like his sergeant.
  4. Yeah, Andy was a bit of a void in the personality department. I agree that Andy was sort of dull, but Louis Herthum has had a surprisingly successful career. He keeps popping up in interesting projects like The Last Exorcism, True Blood, and Westworld. I just watched the new Amazon Prime series The Peripheral where he shows up as a crime boss. I still have trouble seeing him as anything other than Deputy Andy, though.
  5. Gregory only eats candy that's 96% cacao. Of course, but also yuck.
  6. Oh no, sorry! I watched through my PBS subscription on Amazon and didn't realize the finale hadn't aired on tv yet. I'll go back and hide my posts under spoiler tags. Sorry, everyone!
  7. Oops, sorry Silvie is the actor's name. She plays Annika's daughter Morgan. That was my take on it anyway.
  8. I wish Brooklyn Bridge was available to stream somewhere. That was a wonderful show and she was great in it.
  9. I was disappointed by Synchronic, but loved Spring, Resolution, and The Endless so I'm excited for this one:
  10. I didn't like the reveal at the end of the last episode and am not looking forward to seeing how that whole situation plays out. I enjoyed the series as a whole, though, and am always happy to see Paul McGann.
  11. I read the novelization for Halloween Kills, which had some interesting parts from Michael's POV and an ending different to the movie's, and I'm hoping the one for Halloween Ends will explain what was happening in the Michael-Corey scene and maybe something about what Michael was doing in the years between killing Karen and becoming Corey's mentor. Would anyone in Haddonfield really be celebrating Halloween just a year after Michael's massacre, especially when he was still on the loose? And how did that kid get flung over the staircase railing because surely he wasn't tall enough to clear it? How did Sondra survive that gushing neck wound? Corey was off-putting from the start and what was with his mother who was so cartoonishly over the top that I first thought she was doing a bit? I have so many questions.
  12. ‘Glee’ Controversies Explored In Discovery+ Docuseries From Ample Entertainment I'm interested in what it must've been like behind the scenes in the first season when the show catapulted the cast into fame.
  13. Well, that had a lot of WTF moments. Halloween Ends wasn't at all what I was expecting after seeing the trailer, and not in a good way. I did think it was kind of interesting, but it wasn't a satisfying finale. At least it was consistent in having Allyson continue to make bad choices throughout the trilogy, though she did come through at the end.
  14. Bill Murray's Latest Defense Rings Hollow In Light of his Extensive History of Abuse I remember reading about production on a movie being suspended because of something Bill Murray had done, but I guess the specifics only came out recently:
  15. This somehow seemed both too long and undercooked. They introduced some elements and then didn't do much with them, like Craig's friends or the girl he was dating. It also seemed like they were wavering between trying to make Mr. Harrigan sinister/actively villainous vs. just ruthless/unforgiving. When Craig was investigating what happened to Mr. Harrigan's former employee, I thought we were going to find out that he'd had the guy killed or burned out of his home or something. I also thought the scene with Ms. Hart patching Craig up post-beating was weird. It looked like he was going to try to kiss her. Anyway, all that said, it was ok. Donald Sutherland was good, and I like Jaeden Martell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
  16. I've been disappointed by the last few Mike Flanagan series, but this one is off to a good start. It helps that I have a lot of affection for Christopher Pike's books even though some of them got pretty ridiculous. I really like Ilonka, Amesh, and Anya. Kevin seems kind of bland so far and it's too soon to say about the others. But it's nice to see Heather Langenkamp onscreen again, and in something similar to her Dream Warriors role.
  17. I watched Smile and liked it but not as much as I expected to, though I think my expectations were too high. There were some effective jump scares, but similar to The Black Phone where IMO the most upsetting scene was a character being abused by her father, the most harrowing one in this movie was the birthday party when the main character was desperately trying to convince someone to believe her. Sosie Bacon is great in the lead role and her screaming at the end of that scene was so raw and heartbreaking. Also, if you worry about animals in horror movies, there's a cat in this one and
  18. Wow, it looks like a Community movie is coming to Peacock!
  19. I just got back from watching Barbarian and was really impressed. I had managed to avoid the trailer or hearing anything about it beyond the basic plot (woman's Airbnb experience goes terribly wrong), so had no idea what I was in for. This was intense and such a wild ride, but also managed to find moments of sadness and even humor. The quick cut from is the hardest I've laughed in a while. Justin Long was the standout, but the whole cast was excellent. I highly recommend it and don't want to say more about it for those who haven't had the chance to watch it yet. I have seen the trailer for Smile, which is getting a big marketing push, and while it doesn't look that promising, I still want to see it if only because of Kal Penn, Kyle Gallner, and the Ring-like premise.
  20. Syabira's feathers in the technical looked amazing. I felt bad for her and Abdul, but was impressed by how they both handled the mistake so well. Maybe I missed something, but it seemed like the only 3D element in Janusz's mask was the nose. It looked cool, but not really comparable to the way everyone else had shaped theirs.
  21. There's a forum for it here: https://forums.primetimer.com/forum/4636-the-stranger/ I enjoyed the show even though there were things about it I found frustrating. I just started watching The Light in the Hall (aka Y Golau) on AMC+ starring Joanna Scanlan, Alexandra Roach (both of No Offence fame), and Iwan Rheon. Rheon plays a man released from prison 18 years after being convicted of killing Scanlan's daughter. Roach was the victim's best friend and returns to town to write up a story about the case. I don't love the use of voiceover but it's been minimal so far and the show looks promising otherwise.
  22. Britbox doesn't have ads. Also, some British shows on Hulu or Prime/Freevee have a few minutes cut from the episodes while Britbox has the full versions.
  23. It's happening! 🙌 Warner Bros Sets ‘Constantine’ Sequel; Keanu Reeves & Francis Lawrence To Reunite, Akiva Goldsman Scripting & Producing With Bad Robot’s JJ Abrams & Hannah Minghella Now where's the Spy sequel?
  24. Finally able to watch the latest season now that it's on BritBox. I'm not the biggest fan of the more sentimental episodes like Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room or The 12 Days of Christine, but I really liked Merrily, Merrily. And as a crime drama buff, I thought Nine Lives Kat was fun. Kid/Nap was probably my least favorite, though I thought the split screen was clever. Anyway, I'm glad they ended on a hopeful note, especially since most of Wise Owl was so unsettling.
