  1. Maybe. It just seemed odd that there was no mention of it afterwards, if only a brief acknowledgment from the judges or as something for Noel to poke some fun at because of Jürgen's reputation for being so methodical and precise. And I say this as someone who likes him and doesn't really have a strong opinion about the judging this episode.
  2. This really stood out to me. From what I remember, every other time someone has dropped something on the show, it's a big deal. This time, I think we saw a few of the other bakers turn around to look but there was so little reaction--and, as you say, no mention of it during judging--that I rewound to make sure I hadn't missed something. Very strange. I really like Lizzie and was impressed that the unappetizing sounding 100% cocoa that smelled like jaguar wee (?!) used in her ice cream sandwiches was a hit with the judges. And I loved her showstopper with its shag carpet decoration. Sorry to see her go.
  3. I loved Crystelle's cardigan and I know she ended up taking it off, but am surprised she wore something with such bulky sleeves in the first place. Also on a shallow note, Chigs looked dreamy--well, dreamier--with glasses. Isomalt sounds like something to spread on sidewalks during winter. I was impressed by how Crystelle kept it together enough to make a third sugar dome using a technique she'd never tried before. Good on Lizzie for helping her, and for wisely pointing out that she should finish assembling her showstopper before celebrating. I was grossed out when Paul lifted up Giuseppe's sugar dome and the gluey top layer tried to cling to it like the Blob. Poor George. I thought he had shot himself in the foot again by using a riskier method with his sugar dome, but he pulled it off to the point where I thought he might make it through to another week.
  4. Giuseppe's showstopper looked adorable, but I was so happy for Crystelle. I'll miss Amanda. George really lucked out after tripping up again. The Jürgenator is back:
  5. I saw a recent video with Jennifer Love Hewitt and am wondering if she had work done or if it's just a filter or something that made her look so different.
  6. I like George, but don't understand why he made things more difficult for himself by choosing the type of biscuits he did in the signature challenge. There were some funny moments (Amanda wanting to take a victim statement from the dough Jürgen was slapping around, Lizzie poking fun at Noel's inability to keep quiet and her observations about the other bakers), but I didn't enjoy the German accent bits and was annoyed that Jürgen was judged last. And I felt terrible for Freya, but it was lovely to see everyone rally around her. Happy for Giuseppe, my favorite, though unless I missed it we didn't get to see his star baker phone call at the end.
  7. I think I actually enjoyed this season more than the last few, though that's at least partly because I was just so happy we got new episodes. And while he'll never be my favorite, I have grown to like Winter more than I did in his first few seasons. As for s22e6, I was also glad to see Colin Salmon but thought this episode felt sort of unfinished. What was the point of Holly Willoughby popping in? The ending also seemed a bit rushed.
  8. For me, I think it's also that even when terrible things happen, we find out who did it and why and they're usually held responsible for their crimes. It feels tidy in a way that real life often isn't.
  9. I thought Halloween 2018 was decent, but even though it gave too much away, I thought the first trailer for this one was fantastic and it really got my hopes up for the sequel. I just finished watching the movie, though, and am so disappointed. Even for a horror movie, there were so many characters acting so stupidly that it was hard to watch. The mob scene at the hospital was especially tedious. I also thought the flashbacks to 1978 were too long, the returning characters from 1978 were largely wasted and their introduction clumsy, and I didn't like what they did with Hawkins. And I wish Karen hadn't been killed off, or at least not in the way they did it.

  11. You're in luck then because the latest episode (s22e5, For Death Prepare) has Sarah appearing in a local theatre production, and also guest stars Kevin Whately (Inspector Lewis). I've liked this latest batch of episodes, but it bugs me when a major revelation comes to light and either we don't see a reaction from the people involved or they seriously under react. I don't know that this is necessarily a new thing for this show, but it really stuck out to me in a few of these episodes.
  12. I had to watch the video to make sure that really was Jennifer Love Hewitt. I don't know what's going on there, but she's unrecognizable.
  13. I missed seeing Escape Room: Tournament of Champions in the theaters, but got the Blu-Ray recently and was surprised to find that there's an extended cut that's very different from the theatrical version. A significant subplot and secondary characters are in one but not the other, and the endings are totally different. I preferred the extended cut. These aren't great movies, but they're fun and I hope they make another to close things out.
  14. Rebecca [after her initial disgusted reaction to Ted's botched biscuits]: “She’s a sneaky, salty bitch.” Ted: “Like Heather Locklear on Melrose Place, right?” Keeley: “That’s exactly how you’d describe her.” Rebecca: “Mm-ohhh, Heather.” Ted: “Well, you know my philosophy when it comes to cats, babies, and apologies, Coach: you gotta let ‘em come to you.” Ted: “Then I’ll look like that fella from The Hangover.” Beard: “Bradley Cooper?” Ted: “You’re too good to me.”
  15. I think so, but I saw some sources saying it might not show up there until 2022. They misspelled the author's name in the trailer 😬
  16. The description reminds me of Let's Scare Jessica to Death, but the details don't match up. I also looked at the list of movies shown on Movie Macabre, but nothing's ringing a bell. Sorry.
  17. I remember listening to the Teen Creeps podcast episode about this book and was surprised to find out that the 2010(?) edition had been updated to include cell phones. I think it was mostly excuses for why they couldn't be used, like the battery died or it was left at home or whatever. Weird, and seems like it would be annoying to keep coming across those kinds of workarounds.
  18. And starring Bertie Carvel, one of my faves! I was planning to cancel Acorn and Britbox, but between this and the newest Ann Cleeves series adaptation starting on the latter, it looks like I'll be sticking with both for a while longer.
  19. I thought this episode was a lovely treat. It doesn't really advance any storylines if I remember right, but has lots of nice character moments (I loved that one of the first things we see at the Higgins house is a prominently placed photo of Cindy Clawford). I can imagine rewatching this one during the holidays if I just need a quick pick-me-up.
  20. The Chestnut Man on Netflix doesn't seem to be getting much attention even though it's based on a popular book written by the creator of Forbrydelsen (The Killing). Considering his involvement with the show, it's not surprising that it's a faithful adaptation. I don't know that it stands out much from similar shows, but it's well made, has appealing leads, and with only 6 episodes is an easy binge watch.
  21. I'm impressed by how many quality horror movies Peacock has streaming for free this month. There are a few that are only available for paying subscribers, but not nearly as many as I would've expected. By contrast, Paramount+ continues to disappoint, though at least they'll be releasing the newest Paranormal Activity movie on the platform in late October.
  22. I appreciated how, in time-honored teenage fashion, Amanda's daughter couldn't muster any enthusiasm for learning about her mom's hobby--even while being filmed for tv. I'm so glad Maggie made it through. I thought for sure she was done after seeing her beach scene showstopper. Watching one of her little biscuits dragged along by a string to demonstrate interactivity made the contrast to a lot of the others' efforts particularly stark. I loved Chigs's snooker table and Giuseppe's game board. It's a shame Amanda's horse fell apart because it really did look nice.
  23. One of my favorites is from season 1: Telling Tales, the second ep. I enjoy plots centering around a closed case that has to be revisited. I also like that there was some tension among the team about the handling of the case.
  24. I loved the opening of S22 e3 (Happy Families), another fun episode. One of my favorite mystery settings is an isolated location where the investigators are stuck with the suspects. Is this the first time that's been used on this show? I also appreciated the production design, some of the shots (like when Fleur is leaving on the ferry), and another great guest star in Rachel Stirling. Bonus points for the mini Jonathan Creek reunion with Caroline Quentin and Stuart Milligan. Maureen Johnson recently published the book Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village that pokes fun at some of the tropes often found in English murder mysteries. It's also illustrated. It looks like such a fun read!
  25. Ha, yeah, I finally put my glasses on to watch this and realized how much makeup some of the actors are wearing. I don't think it looks great and I'm sad that the show isn't really working for me. I'm glad other people are enjoying it, though, and hope it does well because I really like a lot of Mike Flanagan's other work and want him to be able to keep making stuff.
