  1. I felt old, too, when I saw them. I remember watching them skate to “Going to the Chapel” after getting engaged. I could see that Chock and Bates were technically on another level, but I did not enjoy their program. She was the wind? Why was her expression “constipated” throughout?
  2. I think what bothers me most is that she gets rewarded with extra maternity leave, when really she should have been fired. I guess if she didn’t get fired for Tag’s review (that no one should have ever believed was written by Tag) then all bets are off.
  3. We watched the first episode and are definitely settling in for more. Really enjoyable characters across the board. “Walking the dog I never wanted.” Heh.
  4. Oh, there are so many episodes to scrap! Since it came on just last night (which made me turn off the TV), I add Rachel telling Joey her boss wants to buy her baby near the top of the list.
  5. I finally got to the point that I would read the recap to This is Us and decide whether to watch the episode or just fast-forward to one or more scenes that were noteworthy. Actually, I watch several series this way.
  6. Isabeau reminded me of Sasha Cohen if she ever had skated a clean long program. I remember when the women’s LP closed out the competition. When did that change?
  7. I thought Ilia’s song choice really helped his artistic score. Whoever suggested it was right on. Jason is just gorgeous to watch.
  8. I think Del knew exactly what she was doing with the nemesis (which is a little Hope Floats rip-off). She also kept denying writing the letter she clearly wrote, and I was glad Alice called her out when she said she lost everything and Alice reminded her she still had Kat. I do have sympathy for her; I think a child’s disappearance is the worst thing a mother deals with, but it’s like she blames Kat for it. I am sure it will all become clearer as the show continues.
  9. This so far has me intrigued. I like Elliot and Kat and am happy Alice has settled a little from the pilot. Del is kinda awful. Andie is playing her well, but I’m curious to see why she seems to hate her daughter. I mean, setting her up to be humiliated by her high school nemesis was really unnecessary. Listening to her eulogize Jacob as her perfect baby after that treatment of Kat rubbed me the wrong way. Ready for next week!
  10. My TiU UO is that I thought Miguel was a much better person than Jack and much better suited for Rebecca. I thought Jack, for all his worshipping of Rebecca, made her feel small (“How dare you complain about even a second of raising our children and wanting a break from them?” “Your singing saved me until you wanted to go back to it when the kids grew and now it’s a joke.” “Randall, let me explain racism to you by insulting your mother”).
  11. I am finishing up Lucy Worley’s biography of Agatha Christie and really enjoying it. After that I am starting The Appeal with high hopes.
  12. Please revoke her bail. Pretty please.
  13. Fritz is awesome! I just can’t remember whether we ever got more details about those “lots of reasons.”
  14. I have a question about Fritz in Two Options. I know that episode was planned as a possible pilot for a new series following the SWAT and SOB division. In it, Major Crimes is trying to rescue the wife and two children from a serial murderer, and Fritz leads the charge over Andy’s initial objections. He says things along the lines of “you have to trust me, Andy. You don’t want to know how I can do this” and then he takes out the guy while catching the daughter before now dead guy drops. The only other time I can remember seeing this kind of action from Fritz was when we find out in The Closer that he is some sort of sharp shooter, as he takes out a guy threatening Brenda. Do they ever follow up on Fritz’s abilities or history? I assume the line to Andy is there to be developed if the new series was approved, which it wasn’t. Did Major Crimes ever explain it?

    Tennis Thread

If anyone is rooting for Tiafoe, I should warn you that he lost every single point I watched. I was doing something else with the match on and started randomly glancing up; every time I looked the ball inexplicably caught the net or went just outside. I buried my head down for the match winner because he had already blown several chances (I watched each of those of course). I don’t know why I jinx him, but I guess I do. 🤷‍♀️
  16. When your portfolio seems to keep growing I guess you ignore a lot of red flags. See also Theranos.
  17. The actor is terrific (seriously, that character is delightful!) in Ted Lasso so might have been unavailable.
  18. We ended up becoming engrossed. Even our teenager came in to ask a question and found himself sitting down and asking about Madoff instead I was too busy at the time to follow the details. Unbelievable how many times the math guy alerted the SEC to no avail.
  19. My dad never attended professional games ever, but he always had us stay at high school games, saying during a blowout, “We will stay and support our players because they would like to leave, too, but can’t.” I hung in there as long as I could before deciding the new NIL rules allowed me to consider the players “professionals.” Sorry, Dad.
  20. It wasn’t plausible for Rachael to burn all her bridges. I liked the idea of Ross saying he would go, take care of Emma, and figure out his plan from there. Sabbatical - visiting professor somewhere - writing more papers - if Rachael was so valuable that her company was willing to fly Ross back and forth, maybe he could still do that. Maybe Susan shoots a movie nearby on location and Ben and Carol come, too. Fan waving is fun!

    NFL Thread

So many players end up with unscrupulous money managers and/or friends with “can’t fail” investment opportunities that *surprise, surprise * fail. By the time they think to ask questions the money is long gone and they find out one of the documents they signed was a POA authorizing the person to act on his/her behalf. For a little while the NFL hosted an annual rookies camp where they had speakers cover these types of topics. They used to commandeer a hotel in my town, which was about 60 minutes from Canton. It’s also a place that is so quiet they couldn’t find trouble. What we heard was the NFL decided it was too expensive and the teams could do it themselves. Missed opportunity.
  22. I always thought Ross should have gone to Paris - organic way to break up the group (though Chandler and Monica moving also worked), and it would really show how much Ross respected Rachael and her career. Missed opportunity IMO.
  23. I have been thinking about one of my favorite scenes, which is when her niece confronts Brenda about not letting her join her at the hospital before the boy died. Brenda seems so confused that Charley wouldn’t think Justice was the priority, and she is so emotional asking Fritz if she did the right thing. I remember at the time wondering if that was the moment Fritz realized for sure that they should not have children. I don’t recall if he ever mentioned them again after the niece left.
  24. I caught the end of the first MC episode and the first part of the second show, and I forgot how annoying Rusty was. If I were Buzz, I would have asked for a transfer. Completely unreasonable for Sharon to decide the best job for the tech guy is babysitter. If I were Buzz, I would have hated Sharon for that assignment. I preferred Brenda’s quirks to Sharon’s self-righteous perfection, though her line to Rusty that he isn’t the first surly teenager to grace her home with his indifference remains one of my favorite lines ever.
  25. I fanwave it as a Mitch Albom type story (which is beautiful, BTW): https://people.com/books/mitch-albom-on-lessons-adopted-daughter-taught-him-before-she-died/ Wasn’t she traveling the world at the behest of the billionaire? I can see them becoming parents this way: a child charmed their hearts rather than an innate desire for kids of their own.
