  1. Actually, I really loved Stellato/Bartholomew's Hallelujah SP this past year. The music just blended with their choreography and style of skating. But I don't want to keep hearing that music over and over ad nauseum. I can't remember the names of certain musical pieces over the years but some made me hit the mute button as soon as I heard the irritating opening chords (would Requiem be one of them? and something from Matrix?). When I watch these great athletes skating their programs to some of the worst (IMO of course) music in the world, I wonder how they can tolerate hearing it day after day. It's only the end of June...but I'm ready for some figure skating competitions!
  2. Thank God! There's so little I watch on TV these days (partly because I'm picky and partly because we don't do amazon, hulu, HBO, etc). Maybe Documentary Now can hold me until Maine Cabinmasters returns. Sure hope Bill Hader's filming along with Fred. Those two, in that Grey Gardens spoof and then the episode mocking those murder documentaries, were pure gold (as in, "gold Jerry, pure gold!") Whenever I see those tall goofy balloon things outside some business, I think of that murder documentary with Fred being interviewed by the detectives.
  3. We had Shrimp Curry and it was delicious! Love that stuff and the house had such a wonderful "frangrance" (kept making me want to have more). Mr. P914 has been doing the cooking all week as I had back surgery on June 6th. Thank God he's always been a decent cook and a good caregiver. It's funny though. When he's been looking at the recipes in the kitchen bible I created (all our favorite recipes), he says, "What do you mean by a little Mural of Flavor, a bit of garlic powder, some fresh ginger sauted, etc?" At first I'd have to do the sprinkles of stuff and fistfuls of herbs. Now he's picked up on how it's done (how much chopped bell pepper? start adding it into the skillet and when it looks like enough...stop). A lot of my recipes I've copied from online or out of cookbooks and don't bother with measurements of the extras that I add. I kinda like this: no cooking and no cleaning the kitchen either!
  4. They hardly show re-runs around here any more. It's all Big Bang Theory, Family Man...shows I never really thought much of. It's funny, though, whenever something about Seinfeld is in the news (e.g., Julia will receive the Mark Twain award this year), if you go to the comments section, a lot of people are posting those famous Seinfeldian lines.
  5. Ina's Italian Wedding Soup. I like to make the meatballs using chicken cilantro sausage along with ground chicken. Re: getting mooned? I wish people would stop wearing clothes that allow these moon "shots". Wear a long t-shirt or long tank top and tuck it in those jeans, slacks, etc. Geez.
  6. Dan Aykroyd and Phil Hartman were the "glue" as they say, that kept the entire show together. They could do any character so easily (or, it looked easy...probably tough to accomplish). I'm going to refer to my new blender (the one for smoothies) as a Bass-o-Matic from now on.
  7. @Zola: Your vacation sounds wonderful! You folks are brave, driving an RV, but at least it will be while you're out in the "wide open spaces". While you're in the metro DC area, I hope you get to see some autumn foliage. Re: Baltimore? Know exactly where you're going while there.
  8. One of the reasons the MTM show instantly became my favorite was because I was young, single and worked in an office (congressional) in which the office administrator was a jerk, very much like Ted Baxter. We couldn't stand the guy so when the MTM show came on, it was like venting our misery one night a week. Ted Knight did a great job as the idiot's delight but I always adored Jack Cassidy's portrayal of dastardly dudes. I bet he would've done very well as "Ted". Maybe they would've given him a more credible actress to portray his girlfriend (as opposed to that daffy actress who played Baxter's girlfriend--I couldn't stand her).
  9. In reality, yeah. But this was Designing Women's enhanced reality and it was funny. In retrospect, that episode reminded me a bit of the movie, Four Seasons when the older couples went on a sailboat cruise and the recent widower brought along his new, young, very kind and decent & pretty/sexy girlfriend. The other women reacted much like the Designing Women gals. Geez, I haven't seen that movie in years.
  10. Dave Lieberman's meatloaf, whipped potatoes, and green peas. And Ghiradelli brownies w/ caramel for dessert (they are delicious! esp w/ a little vanilla extract in them). In Paris, my favorite restaurant was a small Italian place. Had The Best seafood marinara in my life at that little place. I think it was called La Romantica. On a cruise, I ordered prime ribs. The waiter asked if I wanted some horseradish sauce and thinking it was like the stuff I make at home (a little horseradish in sour cream), I said "sure". Plopped a good size dollop on my prime rib and holy cow! Everyone said my face turned beet red. Adventures in dining.
  11. Hah! Now I'm trying to remember if we saw Diane's neck in that movie with Jack Nicholson and that gorgeous house on the beach (I only watch the reruns for a couple of scenes: kitchen scenes cause I love that kitchen, and the incredible sobbing/typing scene...so hilarious!)
  12. Baked sweet potato fluffed with a pat of butter; then, topped with shredded rotisserie chicken, Famous Dave's bbq sauce, sour cream, and fresh chives from my deck garden.
  13. For some reason, I woke up at 5 AM today and could've watched the whole shebang but I'm so weary of Harry and Meghan (no fault of theirs, I'm sure--just the crazy OTT media) that I couldn't face it & went back to sleep. So I've watched snippets on CNN this afternoon and that was enough for me. Cannot believe that Episcopal Bishop gave a "sermon". Who needs a daggone sermon at a happy event like a wedding when there's so much else to appreciate (the music, that wonderful English boys & men's choir, the beauty of that chapel, etc)? Noticed that Catherine didn't look too happy during the ceremony (maybe because she had to sit next to The Rottweiler?) I normally like rainy days but not a whole week of rain (and many times a deluge, just when I'm driving in dicey heavy traffic sections). Tomorrow the sun is supposed to come out so maybe this midAtlantic section of the country can dry out (cause the trees are beginning to fall over due to soggy ground).
  14. Good God almighty, yeah...what the heck is going on in the Northeast? I'm originally from the mid Hudson Valley and the photos I'm seeing at a website for the HV are just shocking. The only serious weather we had when I was growing up were the blizzards. But a few nights ago we went to the basement (metro DC area) after warnings to do so on local TV. Something strange is going on with our weather. Not good, at all.
  15. Summer Spaghetti which we haven't had in a long time.
  16. "...problems with jumping''. Well, it's not just the Knierems. It's all the pairs skaters and it's always bugged me that pairs have to include the type of jumps that singles do while they're also training/performing such difficult lifts and throws (and perfecting other beautiful pairs moves such as the death spiral, and the tricky coordinated spins). That's a lot and pairs skaters just don't get the recognition that singles skaters get even if they win gold (well, maybe in Russia they do). Ok...just venting here. Anyway, I hope Aljona can help them with those pesky jumps because they are beautiful skaters. Wonder if Aljona is still pinching herself, saying "I really did win the Olympic gold!"
  17. Why did I think they were going to retire and start a family?
  18. Geez...what a sick puppy. For some reason, although I know very little about her, I'm not surprised (after observing her in the K&C after Zagitova's winning the gold).
  19. Re: ^^^^ I'm so happy for Brian Orser, being such a successful coach of such great skaters. His two Olympic experiences had to have cut deeply (esp losing to Scott Hamilton, a good skater but no artist on ice).
  20. Looks like a BC Marathon tomorrow morning (Friday 5/11). I looked up Surprise Surprise and that's the episode where she serves pastitsio in the garden, along with that wonderful watermelon/arugula salad that I love.
  21. Actually, I'm leery of going to see this movie based on the multiple previews I've seen. What a great cast, though. Where the heck are the scripts for serious, thoughtful films using actors like these?
  22. Go Team Orser!! This is going to be interesting to see if EM is transformed by her new coaching team. Re: Chock & Bates? IMO they first need to get Evan to quit bending at the waist (everyone knows he's a lot taller than his partner so he just needs to show off his good posture). Then, do something about Chock's wimpy hair that smacks around her head while skating. I give them a year in Montreal.
  23. Thanks, mansonlamps. Your old family recipe is about the same as the one I found online back in '96 (it's called Central European Chicken Paprikash) except mine calls for a can of tomatoes (probably from a different part of Central Europe, right?) I gave the recipe to a friend who made it for dinner tonight and they loved it. I'm going to try spaetzle next time and will look for it at Aldi's. I guess that was CFF's Great Strides you walked in (I used to work for CF years ago--it's a very good cause, raising funds to fight a terrible disease). That chicken salad at Panera's sounds good.
  24. Aww, gee. I goofed up and immediately thought this was Alina (who I want to leave Eteri so badly, after that cold reaction to Alina's gold medal at the O's). Well, Evgenia needs a break from Cruella too. Guess wishful thinking caught up with me.
  25. Thanks for the tip re: spaetzle--love spaetzle! If it's not a secret, please post your family recipe. I'm always looking for additions and/or improvements :>)
