  1. It's 1 lb diced Roma tomatoes, diced mild onion, about 6 diced green olives, minced garlic, 2 Tbsps red wine vinegar, 1/2 cup light olive oil, a little kosher salt & fresh light ground black pepper, & minced parsley. I also sprinkle about a tsp sugar over this. Mix it up and put in fridge for several hours. Serve over hot spaghetti or vermicelli. I can post recipe tomorrow with the exact amount of ingredients (I was guessing here ☺)
  2. BUYMOREANDSAVE: You really do eat healthy foods! I've always put some yogurt in my smoothies (either plain or vanilla yogurt, some orange juice, some frozen oj concentrate, some pieces of champagne mangos or papaya, and sometimes I sneak in a little low fat vanilla ice cream). I use the frozen concentrate in lieu of ice cubes as I think they'd bust my new little smoothie blender. Lately I've been trying to create a lowfat, lower sugar alternative to Starbucks Strawberries & Cream frappucino. No success yet.
  3. Asian-style salmon + noodles in peanut sauce.
  4. Me too & I hate that I'm bored. I love competitive figure skating and want it to once again be interesting to watch. It's too bad that the athletic growth has come at the cost of the artistic side.
  5. While watching Michelle's Tosca video I thought...such attention to detail. Even her hands were expressive. Can that style of skating be attributed to Frank Carroll and Lori Nichols? I don't have a list of skaters whose performances I watch a lot but there are some that I have enjoyed including: M/D's Olympic LP Liebestram Michelle's 1996 LP Salome (wish I had a video of this at Nationals because you could see what she did with her eyes as she passed the judges that night...and what I saw again a few weeks later at COI but you can't see it in the World's video). Attention to detail!! D/W's Bollywood D/W's Olympic winner, Scheherezad (I was exhausted at the end, just like them) Alyssa Czizny's Sabrina (I wonder what she's doing these days...another skater I miss) Sale/Pelletier's 2002 Olympic winner, Love Story (hated that music until I saw their interpretation of it...didn't Lori Nichols do the chorography on that one?) Sasha Cohen's Dark Eyes. Loved her interpretation of such an old song + that gorgeous costume! Hmmm...all of my favorites are from the old days...no current competitors. I must be overlooking/forgetting some memorable recent skating.
  6. Summer Spaghetti + salad for supper.
  7. We had that Greek-style one pan chicken & potatoes for dinner last night. I made aioli so it was like having Spanish Roasted Potato Salad.
  8. That program, IMO, never got enough respect from the skating world. Davis & White researched, and then took lessons from a dancer from India. Their major effort to recreate this dance on ice (with so much respect for its culture) was, to me, just amazing. I still love watching it. I miss their presence in competitive ice dance.
  9. Bertolli's chicken parmesan dinner that I gussied up with some tasty marinara and fresh mozzarella...and I tossed in some cooked shrimp just to make it interesting. Plus Ina's garlic ciabatta.
  10. A big Thank You! to PBS for broadcasting A Capitol Fourth last night. John Stamos does a good job as host and most of the talent was good. Seeing a medley done by the cast of the Broadway musical of Carole King's life and works was wonderful. I want to see this musical now. They also did a superb job of showcasing Sesame Street and its stars as they celebrate 50 years of this excellent children's program (very sweet when the Muppets & the kids sang Happy Birthday to America).
  11. Grilled marinated portobello mushrooms on rolls w/ sauted bell peppers, onions & aioli; sauted corn, and salad.
  12. I was so sure (and so proud of myself for thinking of it) that Antartica was the correct answer. At least the 3 contestants blew it as well so I didn't feel so alone.
  13. Good ol' meatloaf, sauted corn, mashed potatoes, & a Greek salad. I'm too full for dessert.
  14. I grew up in Dutchess County and am familiar with the frustrations of driving winding, two lane roads. You have to wait until you reach those few straight sections to pass. So, yeah...if a slow driver speeds up just as you're trying to pass? Let the fire ants have a feast, I say!
  15. We had a BC dinner: Eggplant Gratin and that watermelon, arugula & feta salad with the citrus dressing. Love that dressing--it's so refreshing.
  16. When I lived in NC, I was delighted to learn that children were taught to call the *close* friends of their parents, Miss or Mr (first name). It sounded so sweet, as well as respectful. All other adults were addressed by Mr/Mrs/Miss Last Name.
  17. Unfortunately, it's also a lot of adults who should know better. I worry about something landing on someone's (mine!) roof. Thankfully, it doesn't bother our cat but I feel sorry for all the dogs who can't handle loud noises like this or thunder.
  18. I'm amazed this still exists. Years ago, my sister taught first grade for a year in Pine Plains. When she told me that she & her fellow teachers had to go way out of town to have a drink, I was shocked. So, that "rule" still applies after all these years.
  19. Yes, chessiegirl...eat cause you need to stay healthy. I hope your husband has a quick recovery.
  20. Grilled pork tenderloin (TJ's...so tender you can cut it with a fork), mashed potatoes, and cooked spinach for me/salad for him. Apple Crostata for dessert.
  21. It's always good when Rafi is cooking with Giada. That timbali (or whatever it's called) was not appealing to me. But I loved the ingredients, esp the sauce & tiny meatballs, and would probably eat them separately. I enjoy Rafi's memories of growing up in Rome.
  22. I watched the show today & couldn't get over how OTT her female guests were, raving wildly about the food. It was a bit much. The man sitting next to Valerie's husband looked like the character actor on Seinfeld who was so quiet when he was behind Elaine that she spilled her coffee. So she gave him TicTacs that made a noise (which drove Peterman crazy). The only difference was that this guy's hair was darker (but he had the same goofy looking face!)
  23. Yeah, right. Ear plugs are useless plus they won't stop the bass vibrations coming into one's house. There sure are a lot of self-absorbed, uncaring people in this country today. We live in a development with rules (thank God) and can depend on our manager to handle the nasties. I know a lot of folks don't want to live in a place that has rules but they come in handy at times.
  24. I call them wind gongs cause some of them are huge. Don't people think of anyone but themselves? They leave them up on windy days & nights. I finally emailed the neighbors (don't know them as they live in an adjoining cul de sac but their patio is not far from ours). The husband apologized. But the wife still put them out but not as often & no longer at night. Abay, call the police info' line and ask about having some officers come to your house so they can experience the noise inside w/ windows closed the next time the jerks have their mega music blasting away. The police need to have a serious chat w/ these people.
