  1. Tarell Alvin McCraney wrote the play after his mother died. I have the feeling that Barry Jenkins did give it a happier ending.
  2. Thank God for that! I live in a cold country and I need things to do that make me leave my house sometimes.
  3. Not only that but pretty much all the actresses being considered looked like Jennifer Lawrence and none like the description of Katniss Everdeen. Olive skin might not be exclusive to white people but you don't seem to get it when your casting call asks for caucasians.
  4. I think that tenderness is the key. It's been a while since I've seen characters fully clothed and yet completely naked with each other. The drive to Kevin's my favorite for this. Chiron can't really flirt completely or laugh off Kevin's questions he's just so raw.
  5. I guess this is the difference that an Oscar makes; they're nearly tripling the amount of theatres Moonlight is in. http://variety.com/2017/film/news/best-picture-winner-moonlight-expanding-1201999280/ That's more theatres then it played in before tha Academy Awards.
  6. I'm so happy for this film! I kind of thought it was strange when they announced La La Land because I couldhave sworn Moonlight had the greater applause when the nominees were announced.
  7. Funny, I'm the opposite. I still don't like La La Land but I've come to terms with the idea that it probably will win best picture. If that is the mood of the nation right now, "we need fluff", I guess that will be it's time capsule. But I do really hope Barry Jenkins gets best director.
  8. Touche. Although the intention of the character should mean something. After all, Christian is based on Edward, who is a vampire. Something dangerous. Wasn't Emilio's character supposed to be kind of ,, lovable? Hapless? I don't see them doing that now.
  9. Can My Fair Lady 's ending be worse than The Seventh Veil? I actually threw something at my TV I was so offended.
  10. I saw it tonight. I hated it. Stone and Gosling were excellent but this just reinforced for me that I don't like musicals. I just wanted to see what the hype was about and I was constantly being told it was reinventing the musical. It really didn't for me. Everything that I would expect in a musical happened. By the time the montage for Fall rolled around it really felt like I had sat through 3 seasons, but even that I would have just chalked it up to being a nice but slow film , but the end came..... I agree with everyone who disliked the end.
  11. I don't think I ever really got that connection for Kirsten Dunst because movies like Bring It On and Drop Dead Gorgeous are usually the first ones I think of for her.
  12. I get what your saying but this may no longer be the best example anymore, there are rumours that Smith is losing roles left, right and centre because he tries to write his kids in the picture too., and studios aren't having it anymore. I think what complicates this issue further is that race is classed in the United States.
  13. I saw a lot of tears at my screening of Moonlight. I was curious about the opinions across the board and started watching some reviews online. Until now I have never seen reviewers cry as they were giving a review. Two young Aussies reviewing the film online (and were trying to be lighthearted about) broke into tears by the end. The emotions start showing at about 5:55 but guy on the left had a lip trembling for like a minute before.
  14. Honestly, I love McKinnon's Kellyann but the Fatal Attraction analogy would work better for Trump himself and the American people IMO. He's the one that has the biggest problem with rejection. He even denies photographic evidence that there were less people coming to his inauguration then Obama's. He's the one that won't be ignored. But I get that it would clash with the narrative they have of Trump as childlike puppet of the Grim Reaper/Bannon.
  15. I saw this movie over a week ago and I'm still thinking about it. It was a hard film to watch sometimes but every frame of it was beautiful. I find myself seeking out some of the film's scenes online. I was quite surprised to hear that Barry Jenkins is straight because I thought the third act had a great 'male gaze' showcasing the men. Wonderful. My heart was broken right from "I want to thank you for the opportunity. "
  16. Oh he probably has a golden theatre in each of his buildings, but it is a good visual to have him sitting along side his emotional equals. He tweets like an emotional teenager anyway.
  17. I now have this image in my mind of Alec Baldwin's Trump in a flashback sitting in a theatre with a big bowl of popcorn, surrounded by teenagers watching Twilight .
  18. Last week I saw Hidden Figures and Moonlight on Tues (cheap night) and Wed (film series night at our local theatre) and am I ever glad to see the attention being paid to Mahershala Ali and Janelle Monae for their work in both. And I really want to see big things in the future for Naomie Harris and Trevante Rhodes.
  19. Oh wow. So this has been a great year for people of colour in terms of representation on film but awful for LGBT folks.
  20. I think the politics in the present kind of take priority over last years issues as well.
  21. I have a feeling Mahershala Ali has the Oscar now as well. It's funny because I am set to see Moonlight this week.
  22. You ever get the feeling that folks on the business side of Hollywood would make great politicians? I do now. It's amazing how hard it is to get a straight answer to a simple question, like how much did it really cost to make Passengers . Because that total has been mostly reported as $110m and now it was actually $130m . http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-passengers-fights-break-stiff-competition-969077 ETA; Dejana I'm sorry I ever questioned why you didn't originally put the production cost in the box office reports. This is unbelievable.
  23. I think that there might be something in this. Not that no one else wanted Super Bowl weekend but that her demographic of fans and Super Bowl aren't expected to overlap all that much.
