  1. I'm torn, while I think I would like a project with Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong'o directed by Elizabeth Banks, ,, really, another Charlie's Angels? http://www.indiewire.com/2017/09/kristen-stewart-charlies-angels-reboot-lupita-nyongo-1201881948/
  2. I thought it would be worse too, but I don't know if this means a greater part of the audience likes the movie they're seeing. Maybe they do now that people are aware it is not a typical horror. Maybe people want to see if it's as bad as the cinema score it received, who knows. I do know there is a lot of talk about how much Jennifer Lawrence was paid for this, which I didn't believe Paramount would pay top billing for such a niche film but then they made a wide release so I don't know what their plan was. I don't know. If true there's no way the cost reported in is accurate.
  3. I think I watched The Tragedy Girls trailer with my jaw on the ground.
  4. Marketing didn't help. So they open one week after thee record breaking horror film and they advertised it as a horror as well, which it isn't. This could only bring on negative comparisons that shouldn't even exist IMO. I mean all you do by marketing to the same audience as It is bring in an audience that wishes they were seeing It.
  5. MichellePfeiffer is part way there, she just did The Wizard of Lies for HBO and she got an Emmy nomination. And honestly I'd much rather watch her in that then this film.
  6. I think I'll wait a bit before I decide on this one. Basically, if Tesla is in the movie as much as the trailer, no, I'm not seeing it.
  7. I watched this film finally. I wanted to like it but I was largely unimpressed with the flow of the story. The acting was great but many of the actors just didn't pop in their scenes to me for some reason or other, and I didn't realize this until John Hurt showed up and I realized how much more I enjoyed his scenes with Natalie Portman. It also took quite a while for me to recognize Greta Gerwig. I was not impressed with the gory recreation of JFK's assassination close to the end. Edited because cpcathy is right.
  8. At this point shouldn't the Weinstein company just send this to VOD? Nobody thinks they have any confidence in it doing well at the box office.
  9. I enjoyed the movie but it wasn't earth shattering to me. It's not like Dunkirk where I'm actually telling people you have to see this. Everyone was good in their parts and all the scenes were good but it didn't congeal as well as I would have liked. I agree with others that it was very respectful of the place and the people and didn't just use them to poke fun. I loved the daughter because they didn't try to use her to criticize the pageant culture or make her into a pageant queen. She was just a little girl with many interests.
  10. I haven'tseen any reviews for this yet but A24 really is on a roll with its films and that's good enough for me. In fact, this film might do what Lionsgate was aiming for with The Glass Castle.
  11. I'm sad that Detroit hasn't done better. At this rate it isn't coming to a theatre near me. I'm not that surprised by The Glass Castle 's performance. It's Angela's Ashes all over again.
  12. Wasn't she supposed to be as tall as John Smith IRL? It coulda been an honest misunderstanding on the film makers part. Right.
  13. I'll probably be catching LBJ on Netflix as well. I feel like I saw a lot of him in Selma.
  14. Lakeith Stanfield may be working towards an Oscar nom before he turns 30. Just my guess.
  15. So I'm not crazy when I see the picture of the two of them side by side and think they look like fraternal twins?
  16. I can't wait to see the first time someone 'mansplains' to the Doctor.
  17. I would be interested to see after how diverse the Oscars were this year if there will be a return to a lack in diversity and #Oscarssowhite from before. I hope not.
  18. How about two with the difference of one letter. The Final Girls And Final Girl
  19. I just finished part one of this novel. I am really liking it even more than I thought. You're right it is a great cast of characters, and I think my favourite is Starr's father Maverick. I'm the same age as Maverick and the closest I got to seeing a Maverick growing up was a very special episode of a cautionary tale style show(I grew up in a rural area). In these episodes Mavericks either died or were sent to prison presumably for the rest of their lives. It really touched my heart that there was an after for Maverick with a family and goals and objectives for him as a member of his community.
  20. Love both those actors but I think it's awfully close to The Theory of Everything with a little bit of Awakenings. I'm actually interested in what will be said by the community of people with disabilities. I recently saw a story on the news with spokespeople saying they were getting disturbed by the rising trend of films where someonedisabled would rather die then continue life in the same way. You Before Me and Everything, Everything as an example.
  21. I really liked this video about examples of masculinity using Newt from Fantastic Beasts. In this thread on Gender we talk a lot about female representation (and I know I'm largely guilty of that) and very little about representations of masculinity.
  22. So I watched the film on Netflix last night. My thoughts; Nate Parker wants to be Mel Gibson very badly. I got Braveheart vibes from this. The film was probably as accurate about Nat Turner as Braveheart was about William Wallace . The acting was good. The use of Scripture to defend slavery was chilling and there was some beautiful imagery(along with some horrific imagery), but I just didn't feel I had watched something new or inventive in the genre. And even in regards to going down the beaten path of films the screenplay could have actually focused on the revolt more. By the time it actually happens I felt like the film was almost over. BoaN didn't make it to a theatre near but even if it had it is likely I wouldn't have seen it. Both because of Parker's tone deaf response to the media about his past and the lack lustre reviews. That's too bad because I'm kind of a history geek and was really excited when I first heard about the project.
