  1. When they first found him and he said the name Henry Deaver why didn't they assume that was his name? Yes, there was already a known Henry Deaver from their town but there can be more than one person with the same name. I did enjoy the episode. It felt like we were finally getting answers and I enjoyed seeing the differences between the two towns. I particularly liked seeing the differences between the two Henrys. Our original Henry has a visible weariness and wariness to him. He seems weighed down by his past but other Henry got out of Castle Rock and seems lighter.
  2. Lucky you, getting a delicious sugar cube. When I went for my polio booster the doctor had no sugar cubes so she just squirted the vaccine in my mouth. Suffice to say, there is a reason they used a sugar cube. It tasted disgusting. Still, we can all be grateful for our disgusting tasting polio vaccines and painful shots and the protection that they offer.
  3. Plus Charlotte upped the price she was charging Blayne because she wanted to avoid sleeping with him and hoped a higher price might put him off.
  4. He must know she's his daughter. I did think it's a bit strange that they were just ignoring the fact that she is illegitimate. Lydia and Blayne were making it sound like Lady Fits had just hidden her away for no reason and now she would just take her rightful place in society. I know some illegitimate offspring of nobility were accepted but what story are they going to come up with to explain Sofia?
  5. Lady Fitz was protecting her own reputation and lifestyle as much as anything with her actions. She would have been tainted by association. I think she is underestimating Blayne's obsession with her though. She may have access to some money and a house but he still has all the power. He could have her committed alongside Lydia and then take custody of Sofia.
  6. I am really glad that Lucy didn't waste her mother's sacrifice and kill Fallon. I was also happy to see her comforting her brother. I love that Nancy can just stroll into her house leading a bound gentleman with a bag over his head and no one thinks anything of it. There was a lot to like about this episode. I hope we get a season three but it was a satisfying conclusion if we don't.
  7. Magic, fast aging sci fi baby! Not really a surprise after they made sure to mention how big it was in the womb last episode. Plus, narratively there is a lot more they can do with a teenager than a baby.
  8. I assumed Lucy would kill Fallon with one of his own weapons but as much as I would enjoy seeing Fallon die I don't want Lucy to become a murderer.
  9. So heading into the season finale we have three main villains, Quigley, Fallon and Blayne. What do we think their fates will be? Who will die, who will end in prison and who will continue on to be next season's villain? I'm thinking that Quigley will still be the villain next season. She provides Charlotte with a purpose that she might lack otherwise and I don't think she can be taken down while she still has leverage in the form of the chief justice. I don't think Blaine can be taken out except by death. I can see Lady Isabella killing him to protect her daughter if he attacks her but that would be a bit too similar to what happened to Sir George. I would quite enjoy it if Fallon was arrested and sent to the colonies. I know the punishment for murder is death but I think that would be too easy an end for him. He should be forced to do manual labour with the "inferior" people.
  10. It would be good if Samantha Morton returned to the show but Margaret would have to survive the journey to America, harsh working conditions for several years to earn her freedom and then find a way to earn enough for a ticket to return home. Did Hunt say how long her sentence was? When Nancy said that when Margaret is gone she would have no one i really wanted Margaret to tell her that wasn't true. From what we have seen she is an important part of Margaret's family. Charlotte and Lucy both love her like an aunt. Sofia is now added to the list of characters i hope will manage to avoid a terrible fate. She seemed so happy to finally meet her mother and she has no idea how awful things are likely to become for her. It's strange to think that she and Lucy are probably the same age. I really hope her path will be less tragic.
  11. I can understand Samantha Morton taking a job on the Walking Dead. I imagine the money will be better and it will raise her profile in the American market. However, I couldn't imagine going from a complex, well written, female led drama to one of the most frustratingly written shows on television. I gave up on that show several seasons ago because of the appalling writing. Not to be too pessimistic but I feel like she's boarding the Titanic after it's already hit the iceberg.
  12. Maybe if you start out a sociopath it turns you normal.
  13. Lucy really showed her age in this episode. She's a teenage girl being led astray by her bad boy boyfriend, refusing to accept the warnings of her friends and family because they don't know him like she does and they're jealous. I do still feel bad for Lucy. She doesn't have the emotional maturity for the life she is living. Most of us gain maturity and a bit of wisdom through our life's lessons but I'm worried the lessons she's already had and those still to come will break her. Speaking of gaining maturity, Hunt might end up being one of the good guys after all. When he arrived he obviously had strong views on morality and the law and could have been a typical self-righteous hypocrite but the fact that he is willing to go after the rich men and is starting to consider people's motivations and show compassion lead me to have hope for him.
  14. Thinking about the terrible options available to women at that time does put a more positive light on how far we've come with women's rights. There's still work to be done obviously but I am very glad to have options beyond housewife, servant or prostitute. I do wonder which I would choose. I am too reserved to be a harlot, too independent to be a housewife and too lazy to be a servant. Maybe servant would be the best option because at least then you don't have to pop out a bunch of kids without pain relief.
  15. I said at the end of last season that I was glad that Piscatella was dead and that I would be worried about them trying to frame the inmates for it if it weren't for the forensics. Clearly, i am something of an optimist for thinking that there would be a proper, impartial investigation. I couldn't finish the episode. I 've watched and enjoyed a lot of harsh tv shows and I might return to this show in the future but my tolerance for depressing shows has decreased significantly. I think it's time to become more discriminating in my viewing. If a show doesn't leave me feeling happy or satisfied then I'm not going to watch it.
  16. So we know how much the higher quality courtesan are getting the question now is how much is someone like Fanny or Kitty making? Nancy offers a speciality service, does she charge more?

  18. Lucy does have a lot of anger and we know she is capable of violence. Fallon did seem to be encouraging that side of her which I found slightly odd since his initial attraction to Lucy was because she was comparatively innocent and reluctant. Despite her issues Lucy does seem to have a kind nature and any violence she displays tends to be in self-defence. Lord Fallon enjoys using violence against innocents and maybe also wants to corrupt Lucy for fun or for leverage. I am eager to see how their relationship plays out.
  19. Lord Fallon might come to regret teaching Lucy to use a sword considering what she did to Sir George. They are definitely Checkov's swords. I read too many historical romance novels as a teen and part of me wishes that Lord Fallon wasn't a murdering rapist and that he would fall for Lucy, become a better man and make her happy. If we ignore what we know of his character his interactions with Lucy could be considered quite romantic this episode.
  20. There is definitely more of a physical resemblance between Charlotte and Liv Tyler than with Margaret Wells. I know rich men often had no care for their children born out of wedlock but I would like to think Liv Tyler's character would have tried to ensure her illegitimate child ended up with a nice family and not in a brothel. If the child was taken away by her father and disposed of without her knowledge that could explain it. Maybe he paid Quigley to take it and that is why she is in on the secret.
  21. A secret baby by the brother was also my guess. Their relationship is definitely odd and antagonistic. If there was a secret baby the question is how did Lydia come to know of it? Perhaps Liv Tyler's father had her shipped off somewhere to have the baby in secret but if he was a client of Lydia's maybe he revealed the secret at an intimate moment. I hope we find out soon.
  22. It does seem like an abrupt change. She was getting lessons from Nancy at the end of last season which seemed to help her regain some power but it doesn't seem that realistic. She started out fairly shy and socially awkward. She was hunted down and had a terrible first sexual experience. Her sister's keeper raped her so she stabbed him but now a few months later she is seemingly ok. I am glad she is more confident and less of a victim but I am expecting that something will happen to trigger her and she'll snap again.
  23. I had a laugh when they had the John call that girl Betsy. For a second i wondered if they had just replaced the actress because aside from the blonde hair that girl did not look much like Betsy. I'd be willing to believe the judge might gain some compassion but since he seems to have a thing for the religious daughter and she's in a secret same sex relationship with a thief and prostitute I foresee him going full evil.
  24. I always found it ridiculous the amount of scorn and blame the women got for being prostitutes. The judge exemplifies the obliviousness. I was thinking about it after last weeks episode when Margaret was being vilified for turning her daughters into whores. Obviously that's a terrible thing but what were her alternatives? Could they work as servants for long hours and terrible pay, still subject to the whims of the men of the house? Their mother is a notorious bawd, would any respectable house hire them? Could she try to marry them off? There weren't many opportunities for women at the time so Margaret went with what she knew and tried to find her girls a rich man to take care of them.
  25. Oh, Lucy, you should have trusted your instincts and had nothing to do with Lord Fallon. I am dreading seeing where her story goes. After the trauma she suffered in the first season it was nice to see her being less of a victim this season. The scene with Charlotte and Nancy was sweet. One thing this show does well is emphasizing the connections between all the characters. Some shows ignore relationships until they are needed to service the plot but Harlots really builds the emotional connections that make the characters more realistic and sympathetic.
