I'm really excited for this! It's a great show and I'm hoping it will give her a chance to shine since OUAT seemed to waste her talent during 5B and all of S6.

TVLine just announced that Jennifer Morrison is joining the show in a "major role". I really liked her on Once Upon a Time, so interested to see what role she's playing here...

While I don't love the Cleo flashback, I at least appreciate that Cleo is the first "regular" person we've seen in an Emma flashback. Everyone else featured in her flashbacks has been a fairy-tale character (August, Neal, Lily, Ingrid, Walsh). However, thought the connection between the flashback and present was really weak (and I didn't like the way this retconned a lot of Emma's background). So I really like your idea for a flashback much more and I also don't care about the red jacket.

If I'm being totally honest, this scene alone was enough to make this one of my favorite episodes of S5. By this time I had gotten good at compartmentalizing and ignoring certain parts of canon (I'm looking at you egg-napping). So here I can sort of hand wave away the weird Cleo flashback and focus on the fact that Emma & Hook were confirmed to be true love and that they shared one of the most beautiful, heartfelt scenes of the entire series. Please allow me just a few minutes to gush about the acting choices here. I recall Colin talked about this in a meet & greet. He and Jen spent a lot of time deciding how to approach it and I think the end result was pretty perfect. Instead of staying stoic, Hook cried for the first time in front of Emma. In fact, this was one of the only times we've seen both of these characters let their walls (TM) down and be completely vulnerable with each other. Both of them were so selfless and the actors really sold the heartbreak. Even Emma's conversation when she gets to the top of the elevator continued the feeling of their moment. Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion - I'm off to rewatch this scene just one more time :).

Thank you - that's all I can think of when I watch that scene! Yeah - this episode was really depressing on a number of levels. On top of the Emma-judging, I hated the way they had Hook immediately turn 100% dark and lay into Emma as well. It just seemed to go against everything they had built up between these two and only done for the sake of DRAMA.

I just saw Avengers: Endgame last night and it made me think about OUAT. Endgame and S6 were both the end of an era for both franchises. The writers knew they were losing certain actors moving forward, etc. I know the budgets and production capabilities were different, but - wow! Spoilers for those who haven't seen Avengers: On OUAT, the final battle consisted of Emma and Gideon sword-fighting while everyone else stood around and watched. It was so incredibly lame I almost have to laugh when thinking about the comparison.

But it was time for the annual Mills/Swan family episode, so Hook isn't allowed to be shown with Emma or talked about at all. He can't exist until the end of the episode. Logic gets thrown out the window if it messes with their formula...

It looks like Once may be moving from Netflix to Disney+ when the new platform launches, so make sure to get your re-watch done soon if you don't plan to subscribe (or own the DVDs).

I know this is a TV show, but the Randall and Beth conflict is so dumb, I just can't. Why does it have to be all or nothing for Beth? As someone stated above, Deja is like 13, can't she be home alone with her sisters for a few hours after school? Also, Beth's evening classes are only three times a week (and if they are truly in the evening, wouldn't Randall be home by then?). Are you really telling me the family can't come together and work out a schedule where everyone makes some sacrifices, but they all get something out of it. It's funny b/c in one scene I wanted to punch Randall in his dumb "put a pin in it" face, but then when he showed up at the hospital I just wanted to give them all a big hug. Echoing others I loved the connection and the "moments" between Kevin and Kate.

Don't forget about poor little Henry! The heartbreak she inflicted by making his girlfriend of two days break up with him was worse than anything Cora or Regina ever did as a mother. It was enough to send Henry on a dark path to mass-murderhood (murderdom?). Thank goodness he has one truly good and heroic mom in Regina - she kept him in the light and on the right path!

Yeah, I can't figure out why he just didn't say "she wasn't there" (which still would have been a lie of omission, but he could later explain why he wanted to delay the truth). Why would they think she would still be there several hours after they had left anyway? As someone who's had chemo, you're only there for 3-4 hours at a time. Not all day from morning to night. I'm just trying to figure out if I even like anyone on the show right now. I guess I like Regina and Rome the best (although their family members are all insufferable). Beyond that I'm coming up empty. I like individual characters in individual scenes here and there, but am mostly indifferent about them all...

Thank you for finding all those quotes! I really wish they added up to a real explanation, but it sounds like the spell brings out people's deep, dark feelings and maybe exaggerates them a bit. What a mess!

Can someone remind me how the Shattered Sight spell works? That is, are the things people say and do caused by the spell? Or does the spell just bring out real, sometime sub-conscious, feelings? So, does David really think the baby could be Whale's? Does Henry really think Hook is a "dirty pirate"? Does Regina really have "true hatred" towards Emma? Or are these just feelings/thoughts given to them by the spell? Was it ever explained in the show? I feel like it must be the fault of the spell and not their real feelings - otherwise they wouldn't all be laughing about it a few minutes later, right?

I will admit to not re-watching this one, but I clearly recall feeling sick to my stomach the first time I watched it. They somehow manage to paint Emma as being in the wrong both in the past and the present - even though she's playing the opposite role in each. This episode was fan pandering at it's very very worst. At least Emma had Elsa with her for most of the time and then Hook was there to support her in the end. Regina's behavior is just...UGH.

Yeah, it's really not a good look for Snow especially given that in the original timeline Marian was executed for protecting Snow...

This right here is what really bothers me. On any other show, Emma's revelation would have stopped Regina dead in her tracks. There would have been a huge dramatic pause and Regina would have been horrified to learn that she was, in fact, the one that killed Marian and caused Robin and Roland so much pain. Her reaction (and that of most of her fans) was all about Regina with no thought given to anyone else's feelings. I came into S4 so high from the S3 finale and didn't dwell on this at the time, but looking back this was truly the beginning of the end of the coherent writing (IMHO).

I believe that came from Dolly herself. I saw her on Jimmy Fallon and she mentioned that Heartstrings would be released in the Fall. I also saw an article that indicates JMo will add her voice to Batman:Hush, an animated DC film. She's everywhere!

I don't understand the secrecy either. It's not like it's Avengers 4 or something. I noticed they have announced the cast for one of the Dolly Parton series eps each of the last two weeks (including this week's announcement about Ginny). It could be that they want to dole out these announcements one at a time to keep people talking about the series until it's released in early 2019. Just a thought, but maybe they don't want him announcing that he's appearing in one of the eps and have that ruin the planned PR. That's only a guess though :).

A lot of others have already discussed the affair and the reactions to it. I agree that Katherine comes out looking the best to me and I find Eddie and Delilah's excuses to be really lame and self-centered. However, there were a couple other things about this episode that I just can't get past. What day of the week was this meant to be? Was it a weekday? And if so, why wasn't anyone working besides Katherine (and shady-Ashley)? Maggie just happened to be free all morning to do "whatever" with the girls? Did they just blow off the mani-pedis/facials/reservations at that hard to get into restaurant? All the guys were just free all day? So strange. And if it was a weekend, where were the kids? Why was Ashley at work? And don't get me started on the Bruin's fantasy camp surprise. So was Jon mega-loaded? He could afford to hire a limo for the day and pay for four people to attend a Bruin's fantasy camp? And he didn't need to tell anyone to make sure they would be available? And the guys all just happened to be at Gary's apartment when the limo shows up? And Jon not only planned and paid for the limo and the fantasy camp, but he also ordered a personalized cake and had it delivered?? Seriously?? I'm sorry, but stuff like this just completely takes me out of a show. It's so over-the-top and unrealistic that I can't take anything else that happens seriously. Sorry for the rant, I just can't believe no one else mentioned any of that. Maybe I'm the only one who never had a friend spend thousands of dollars on them for their birthday...

This pretty much sums up how I feel about it. I know people are comparing it to LOST, but to me there is no comparison. LOST pulled me in from the pilot and didn't let go the entire first season. I cared about the characters and the mystery was compelling. This show is just so boring. Like nothing interesting is happening - at all. And having both sibling involved in a love triangle? I was really holding out hope the wife's secret was something else, but it doesn't appear so. As for those wondering about the gender of her new significant other: I really like Josh Dallas, so I hope the plot picks up and becomes more interesting - and fast!

That is well-deserved! The music was consistently great throughout the entire series, so I'm glad they are finally being recognized. I'm especially partial to the Snowing and Captain Swan themes. I also thought Eduardo and the costumes were worthy of their nominations in past seasons. If I recall correctly, those are the only two aspects of the show that have ever been nominated. Is that right?

I just saw the Lana retweeted this article. We all know she has a huge ego, but this is bad even for her. It openly trashes 10 of her colleagues (while giving backhanded compliments to a couple more). I can't even give her the benefit of the doubt to say that she didn't read it, because if she hadn't read it she wouldn't know if she was one of the decisions that "hurt" or "helped" the show. Clearly this was written by a fan, not a real writer (hello multiple typos), so all the more reason to ignore it.

Yeah, I have to completely agree. The dumpster fire that was Season 6 did no favors for any character or pairing. You had Rumple terrorizing Belle, the Charming fiasco with seeing Emma through the door and the deciding to just close it, the previously mentioned grievances against Hook and Captain Swan, and who can forget that beautiful pairing of Golden Queen. Perhaps the worst, however, was what they did to Regina. Instead of having her re-absorb her evil half and learn to accept that part of herself, they kept her split in half and had her other half just leave Henry behind and start a new life with a dark version of Robin Hood?? I mean I don't like the character, but if I did I'd be crying bloody murder. I didn't watch much of Season 7, but it almost seems like they completely removed any potentially controversial aspects of Regina, Hook & Rumple's personalities. So while they weren't especially exciting, they weren't offending or annoying anyone either. Interestingly, it seems that people who previously hated Hook (or even Rumple or Regina) liked him this season. I do wonder if the absence of ships and ship wars played into that. But I also think it's because they turned all three of them into kind of generically "nice" characters (and none of them had an antagonistic relationship with the others either).

I 100% agree that the entire flashback and storyline were, to quote @profdanglais, "mindbogglingly dumb". However, I still contend that the "Hook killed David's father" was the worst, most pointless retcon on the show. Aside from the facts people here have brought up about how stupid he would be to kill the only witness if he was trying to maintain his ruthless reputation, it was clear that this was done for one reason and one reason only - SHOCK VALUE. In the end it was never dealt with or discussed among Hook & David or Hook & Emma. They didn't show him growing or learning or changing because of it. It meant absolutely nothing in the grand scheme. Except to crap on Hook & Emma's relationship to the point where if I don't ignore it happened, I can't even enjoy them being together. It, along with the nonsense of the Charmings seeing baby Emma through the door and not going to her, will always and forever be ignored by me.
