  1. I think the Harry Potter films and the Lord of the Rings films are fine. Nothing remarkable. Nothing worthy of a rewatch. They are fine, in the blandest sense of the word. I honestly couldn't differentiate one from the other, in either franchise.
  2. Dammit Frank. He was one of the old guys that I actually thought was attractive. I looked at some of those live feed comments, and wow are there some stupid people in this world. It's like they missed basic civics and think a trial is a popularity contest. They also seem to think this is a criminal trial against Amber and she can be sentenced to jail time. I'm pained.
  3. Oh yeah...that relationship is what nightmares of made of. My real concern with the suit is powerful people suing less powerful people when the less powerful accuse the more powerful of abuse. It's could set some terrible precedent. It's lawsuits like this that struck fear into the heart of the Weinstein victims. If they find Amber liable for defamation, which I think is a steep climb, I don't know how Johnny manages to prove damages.
  4. I've seen "Justice4Johnny" stuff, but I think that's just a misunderstanding of the legal issues. Johnny isn't charged with anything criminal. He's suing Amber for an OpEd she wrote that doesn't even use his name, saying she cost him work based solely basis of that OpEd and she should pay him 50 million for it. I think it's near impossible for him to prove that the OpEd alone, and not the mutual court filings, his behavior, his aging, his multiple lawsuits against other, etc, are what cost him roles. Also, the UK court has already found that under a civil standard, it's appropriate to name him a wifebeater based on 12 acts of violence against her. It's all so ill-advised for Johnny, but damn if I'm not interested in a celebrity shitshow.
  5. I imagine all fluids escaped from Dan Snyder's body en masse.
  6. It's sort of that, "Well, Uncle Herb is 74 now. He's getting dotty. Let's just humor him until he kicks the bucket." I just can't with these idiots though. They need told to shut up and sit down.
  7. Anyone following the Heard/Depp trial that just started in Virginia? I think the filing was a big mistake on his part, especially continuing on after losing against the Sun in the UK case. This seems to be a full on vendetta against Amber, specifically. People would have forgotten about her OpEd already. I wouldn’t remember it at all if not for this case. The result of this trial will likely have real impact on how victims of abuse speak out against abusers.
  8. I sign on to this. They definitely have to tone James down.
  9. I wish they could have brought Linda Hunt in as Mapes for this version. She brought so much to the very small role.
  10. Because I posted in support of this girl's coming out last year (or five decades ago in internet forum time), this came across my info. Jojo Siwa cut her hair. She's gotten rid of that forehead pulling pony tail. And it looks great. She's going to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance. I'd dropped the show a while back because the judging panel was atrocious (Nigel and Mary). I might give it a go. I knew nothing about this girl until she came out. I don't watch her show. I'm not her audience at all. But a happy lesbian growing up and getting a sweet gig is the most interesting news on my twitter feed right now.
  11. I'm waiting for the stampede of, "well, he never raped me" statements before I vomit. I want to get it all out in one big heave.
  12. I am also enjoying Harry Wild.
  13. I felt the same way about Julia Grey. I feel like sometimes authors get so wrapped up in certain elements of a book that they miss what readers enjoy. Rarely does a series hold up over time.
  14. Just finished Burning Hope by Wendy Roberts. This one involves a young woman who has uses fire scrying. All of Roberts' books have a protagonist with a super natural skill. I particularly enjoyed the crime scene cleaner who could see ghosts, the Ghost Duster series, until it hit the love interest phase about book 3? 4? It's been a while. Roberts is terrible about writing love interests. The men are all complete assholes such that I have no idea why the women would be interested. Her second series has a woman who can use divining rods to find dead bodies and the first book was completely fantastic. The ending was a complete shocker without me feeling like I'd been tricked the whole time. But moving through the series, the love interest is awful. Burning Hope jumps straight into having a poorly written love interest. I am super annoyed by this. Her books would be so much better if the love interests were eliminated entirely.
  15. Finished Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman. I listened on Audible and the narration is great. The first chapter is fantastic and hooked me. It starts with this question, "Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave?" However, as the book progressed, I became increasingly more annoyed with the protagonists lack of insight and poor decision-making. But I forgave a lot because of great narration. I'd still recommend if you're taking a long drive and looking for a thriller.
  16. I used to watch this show with my father when he was in the rehab center (from an illness, not an addiction). Abby made me want to scream. A grown woman behaving like a child for her the attention of the father figure in her life. She was horrible. He was worse.
  17. Saw it. Loved the visuals, hated the rest. Poirot is very good at reading and manipulating people. In the book, At the same time, people can't be arrested for having murder on their minds. He warns killers. He warns victims. Branagh has lost the essence of Poirot as a man who sits and thinks. In making Poirot more active, the plot begins to fall apart.
  18. I don’t watch any late night shows unless it’s to see a specific guest, and then I just YouTube it later. I never watch a monologue. I gave up on SNL years ago. You can’t drag me to a stand up show. I have declined more free tickets to stand up that anyone wants to know about. I’m at the point where I am unwilling to even give comedians the chance.
  19. There are hints that there might be romance in the future, but the potential love interests are minor characters/island residents. I'm two books in. There's no sexual tension. The only will they/won't they is whether or not Irma will murder her country club enemy and make it look like an accident.
  20. I'm enjoying the Beaver Island Mysteries. A 71 year old former spy (Irma) and her temporary guest, a 43 year old green tech genius (Violet) solving mysteries. Irma is hilarious. She's a tiny old lady with the mind of a terminator. They are light and funny and nice.
  21. I consider getting slapped in the face actual harm.
  22. If Serena Williams had decided to slap someone, I hope she'd have made it count. Part of the reason I've seen so much spec about it being planned seems to be that Chris didn't seem injured, or even hurt. As someone who has been slapped in the face by a man, I can assure you that a real, hard slap hurts. Your teeth cut the inside of your cheek, resulting in a little blood. Your eye waters and maybe swells a bit. I don't think it was a joke or a bit, I'm just pointing out that while physical violence is abhorrent, Smith was way out of line and his behavior isn't in any way excusable and the Rock joke was terrible, it wasn't much of a slap. If I'm possibly going to torch my career in an inexcusable act of public violence, I'm going to put my weight into it. I have never found Timothee Chalamet appealing until he showed up shirtless on the red carpet. Now I get it. Al Pacino looks like he crawled out from under the bridge he was guarding. I was not a fan of the Chastain dress. Kudos to Amy Schumer for wearing the Spiderman costume without being strapped into a dozen Spanx. Jada was the fashion winner for me. Fuck Will for overshadowing her gorgeous dress.
  23. I can’t decide which was worse, Game of Thrones or the original Dexter.
  24. Marina Thompson on Bridgerton. She’s a total schemer, doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings, will do screw over anyone, is unrealistic and impractical and is beloved by fandom because she’s played by a beautiful actress. Hate her. Discourse about this minor character has derailed discussion of the show.
