  1. I did not understand why they seemed to think "chicken fongers" was so funny that it needed to be repeated multiple times during the sketch. The muted reaction from the studio audience said kind of everything.
  2. It was ridiculous. Even if Liv was right in that the whole thing was just a stunt by stupid teenagers, she didn't actually know that for a fact at the time. Telling the uniform to put down their weapon could have gotten someone shot or killed. I thought the same. I suppose what really happened is they were on a schedule and didn't have time for a better take, or the actors just weren't that great.
  3. Yeah, I find a lot of times that Carter comes off as smug when I don't think that is what was scripted.
  4. Just a reminder everyone, we made a decision last year that this particular show would not have individual episode threads for each new episode. Instead, we are using this thread to discuss any and all new episodes of the show going forward. Please do not create a new episode thread. Your comments from the thread created for the first episode of Season 4 have been moved here. Any questions, please let me know @txhorns79.
  5. I mean, Benton was still with Cleo, so presumably that qualifies as his life being worse or stagnant! I did enjoy they brought back Reese for the final episode. I do think we saw a scene where Mark was in her apartment to discuss taking over Susan's lease, and the landlady thought he was one of the movers. I really appreciated that even if the main characters left, they kept up the continuity with the nurses. Haleh, Chuny and Malik being there since the beginning, and carrying on regardless of who was the doctor in charge.
  6. From what I've read, Utqiagvik (Barrow), Alaska, one of the most northern towns in the state, has about a two month period during the winter where they do not typically see sunlight.
  7. Yeah, the months of total darkness adds to the disorientation of everything. It's not clear if it is 2:00 pm or midnight. I did just about lose it when they accidentally broke the frozen guy's arm off and he started screaming.
  8. I did roll my eyes at her comment about how she should have known something was up because teenage girls don't usually sit in the front seat of a delivery van. How Olivia came up with that is beyond me, and it seems like a rather ridiculous standard to presume someone has been kidnapped.
  9. JFK was the President of the United States when he was assassinated. It was a worldwide event. MLK's assassination set off days of rioting in an already volatile year, and worked well with an underlying theme of that particular season of things falling apart. As a comparison to the mention of Malcolm X, I would look at how they treated RFK's assassination. It got a brief mention at the end of an episode and we saw some footage as things faded to black. That was it. My only point being that he was a very prominent figure, whose murder was a huge deal and they gave it almost nothing on the show.
  10. I presume Detective Beauty Queen was so bad that they will never go down that road again.
  11. Susan had the patience of a saint with Chloe. I don't know how she could possibly maintain a relationship with that human dumpster fire. I would have cut her off entirely when she stole Susan's tv and left the apartment in shambles. And that doesn't even get into that she abandoned her newborn and expected Susan to clean up after her path of destruction.
  12. So there is a lot I like about Season 15, and there is some dodgy stuff. Archie's cop girlfriend of a couple of months gets shot. They work on her in the ER, and she needs surgery. Neela tells Archie that the surgery is such that she might even need a hysterectomy to stop the bleeding. Archie says okay and they take her off for surgery, where she is fine. My question was: How in the world can Archie give consent? He's not her next of kin, and we already saw she has a big family living in the area. (Though none of them are seen at the hospital) It's also unlikely he has POA for her. It just seemed silly. On the positive side, I did love Courtney B. Vance slapping the guy at the adoption center upside the head for suggesting he would feel bad for whatever kid Banfield adopted. I also really liked Old Times. Nice to see Doug and Carol are happily married (and enjoyed hearing their old theme from the show). Also nice to see Benton back to help Carter.
  13. I'm not quite sure what to make of the show. They did a great job of setting the mood, eternal darkness and such, and you get a good sense very quickly of what the town and people are like. I'll continue watching and see where it goes.
  14. I'm pretty sure that was a plot point on the show. When Romano refused to renew her fellowship, she did her intern year over again to get a license. I don't know if that is how it would really have worked for her, but that was how they addressed it.
  15. I remember. Gamma had come to the hospital to see Carter, and Susan gave her a bit of a hard time as she didn't know who she was. Once she realized, she apologized, and Gamma made a cutting remark like: "Well, I guess you're only rude to strangers..."
  16. Guys, it's fine to comment on the article. It's not fine to use the forum to speculate as to Mariska's motivations for coming forward. Please lets also keep the conversations cordial.
  17. I was glad she got a happy ending, as I like the character, but she didn't exactly cover herself in glory this season.
  18. I was surprised by how callous Jackie was written during that storyline. However, I do kind of get how awkward it is for everyone. After all, Carla didn't consider Peter at all before she brought Roger into Reese's life. Peter only found out about him by accident. They also didn't give any real consideration to Peter before Carla announced she and Roger were moving to Germany for his job. Roger is in a grey zone where he has played a parental role, but isn't a parent. It's hard to tell what his role should be, whether it should be permanent or whether he should be around but slowly eased out.
  19. I feel like once she makes peace with how her son died, she and her husband are able to move on. (It was also nice to see Drs. Green, Weaver, Romano and Jerry!) She definitely comes on strong, but I also think the attendings don't really have any interest in listening to anyone outside their circle and it's something of a toxic mix that eventually settles down. (I also like how the episode is set in winter, but you can tell the location shooting in Chicago was likely done in summer, given the fully green leaf trees in the background of the shots). I'm also amused because the new surgical intern in the 15th season, Andrew, is English in real life, but playing American, and his real accent comes out quite a bit in many of his line readings. Also, I was very confused about Andrew and Daria's relationship. I initially thought they were a married couple, but apparently they are siblings? At least that helps explain her crush on Gates.
  20. I'm sad it is cancelled, but I can't say I'm surprised. It felt like the show had no real focus or direction this season. It probably also didn't help that there was what, a year and a half, between the first and second seasons? I'm sure that killed any momentum the show had coming off the first season.
  21. I did think the quality went back up in Season 15. Angela Bassett is a force to be reckoned with, and she really was a dynamic presence on the show. It probably also helped that Abby was finally written off the show.
  22. Season 13/14 - I don't understand the character of Gates, or how he keeps his job. I know the show has had a number of characters who start off as arrogant and reckless, but Gates takes it to such an extreme. As an intern, he's running traumas alone, and when he screws up or goes against an attending's orders, he insists he is right regardless. Finally, he publicly castigates the hospital patient he believed set off the bomb that caused the stampede at Lincoln Park, and ends up getting him killed. It's just amazing to me how many chances he gets, even though he really does not deserve them.
  23. In fairness, Kerry's idea was pretty bad. She used social security numbers to identify the patients, and plastered those numbers in a public place. To me that seems like it is setting up patients to have their numbers stolen, even though I do understand the risks were different in 1996. Can I also note something in Season 12 that I hate? Pratt uses his own blood in a police blood test to protect a friend. He later confesses to Luka, who rightfully suspends him, but instead of reporting what happened to the hospital or the state medical board, Luka insists Pratt spend a month (?) in Darfur to learn lessons and grow up. While I thought sending Pratt into what could be a very dangerous situation as punishment was questionable, that Luka, of all people, is standing in judgment of Pratt was infuriating. This was because in Season 11, Sam, does an unauthorized and unsupervised procedure with a rape victim so she can speak to the police, and ends up accidentally killing the woman. In reality, Sam would likely lose her job and nursing license, and set the hospital up for a lawsuit. Instead, Luka covers for her and nothing happens. On a positive note, even though I know it's not a joke original to ER, I did laugh at Ray gaslighting Weaver into thinking she never accepted his resignation when he wanted to take a month off to go to LA with his band.
