  1. In June, 2018, it was announced that the third season of Genius would turn its focus to Mary Shelley. not too long after that, Aretha Franklin died and rumblings began that she would now be the focus of season three. We talked a great deal here about whether or not AF qualified as a genius. I'm linking to the post where we began to discuss the potential season three. If you follow the topic thread from there, you'll see a lot of the ""Is Aretha a genius?" posts. https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/54789-genius/?do=findComment&comment=47496 Edited to add: Never mind. I see now that that you, @MsTree were one of the active posters in those discussions!

  3. In my opinion, for most of last season and for the first four episodes of this season, this show that I had loved so much was lost. Tonight it found itself again. Best episode in a long time.
  4. Regarding the funeral scene in the trailer:

The date stamp on the final episode ended with 1996. Shania Twain didn't break big until 1998. I suspect Burns chose to end the documentary at '96 just prior to the crossover explosion of Shania Twain, Faith Hill, etc. As I've mentioned above, Ken Burns did make one exception outside the '96 boundary and that was for Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt.
  6. Another thing I liked in this episode was how they attempted to show us the inner workings of Sheldon's mind during the bingo scene and the bowling scene. I think they did a good job of showing how overwhelming it was for Sheldon and why he was so stressed.
  7. I like this show a lot. It may not be a laugh out loud comedy and I guess that's disappointing to some, but it's charming and believable. I love Wade's relationship with his daughters. Tonight's episode was a good example of that. I hope this show makes it.
  8. I love George and Missy together. And I'm so glad he didn't turn Missy's problem over to Mary but was there for her himself. Even without a dedicated plot line, Georgie had me laughing the whole episode. "I told you to crack a window and leave him in the car." "Speaking of dying; When you do, can I have your car?" "Imagine living with this." Good episode overall.
  9. Oh, I'm sure she is. If there's one thing this show needs it's more characters. 🙄

  11. The West Wing will be leaving Netflix for HBO Max. The West Wing is walking and talking its way from Netflix to HBO Max Excerpt: "Aaron Sorkin‘s Emmy-winning political drama, which ran for seven seasons from 1999 to 2006, will arrive on HBO Max when the streaming service launches in spring 2020, EW has learned. This news comes after the platform acquired all episodes of Friends and The Big Bang Theory for its launch."
  12. I posted my comments here before I had the opportunity to read any of the cast/crew interviews, but from what I've now read, I've come to the same conclusion, that everything was filmed onboard. As most of the communal areas of the yacht were outdoor or indoor/outdoor, I assumed that those were filmed aboard the yacht, but I thought that perhaps some of the indoor shots, staterooms for example, might have been sets; but no! There's Logan's stateroom in the promotional video you that you linked. (Thanks for sharing that BTW. It's amazing.)
  13. Can we just take a moment to observe how stunning that yacht was?!?! I'd think that this episode has to get an Emmy nomination for set decoration. I'd love some kind of breakdown as to how much was shot on sets and how much on an actual yacht. When Roman was defending Gerri from those who wanted her to be the sacrifice, it was impressive that he seemed to be the only one who realized that it should not be a woman who was thrown to the lions for a corporate scandal where women were the victims. The big question is: Which S2 episode does Jeremy Strong submit for Emmy consideration? If he doesn't win for his work this season, they should just stop giving out awards.

Every single artist featured in Country Music has experienced a significant sales bump in their recording catalog. Evidently something similar occurs during/after the airing of all Ken Burns documentaries. I'm thrilled to see so many people "discovered" Emmylou Harris! I know that many here felt that there was too heavy a concentration on Johnny Cash in Country Music, but just in case you'd like to know even more about the Man in Black, YouTube will be streaming a brand new Cash documentary on Nov. 11th. 19. While I was watching and Ewan was giving his speech to Greg, I actually yelled out loud, "Oh my God, he's the whistleblower's backer!" But then I remembered that I'm that person who NEVER correctly sees where the plot is going so I've begun to wonder if the writers are intentionally misdirecting us. 😄 I think Kendall began to sour on Jennifer when she told him that he talks about his father A LOT. That didn't seem to sit too well with him. Her repeated use of "awesome" just sealed the deal. Sarah Snook's wardrobe throughout the episode was perfect, capped off by her stunning formal attire. She looked incredible.

"Okie From Muskogee" is Merle Haggard's song. Please don't hang that on Waylon Jennings.

  22. I've been a member of these forums for five years now and yet I never realized we had a Music forum here. I'm definitely late to the party! I'd like to contribute three of my favorite simply beautiful songs. I think this may very well be the most gorgeous melody Bruce has ever composed. The arrangement; the chord progressions; I find it just stunning to listen to. On the Hotel California album where Side 1 ends with Wasted Time, which could easily be named here, Side 2 ends with this masterpiece. Going back to classic country of the 70s for this absolute gem.

I'm watching the Yankees/Rangers baseball game in Arlington, TX and Charley Pride just sang "God Bless America" during the 7th innng stretch. Nice surprise! His voice sounded strong and true. I was curious so I Googled and it turns out that Charley owns a small stake in the Rangers, but of course, as we learned during Country Music, he played some pro ball in the 1950s. In case anyone is interested, here is the Sports Illustrated article I read from 2018 that talks about Charley's days in pro ball. I love Sturgill Simpson. Sometimes it sounds as if he's channeling Waylon! Jason Isbell is great too, but I know him more from the general singer/songwriter category. He's been around for quite some time and only in the past couple of years has he been marketed as country. He's really good; the label doesn't make any difference.
