  1. A couple of new teasers: Hmmm, I hope they don't play it like Party Prince Harry wasn't looking to settle down until he crossed paths with Meghan. He was a huge party boy in his life, to be sure, but seemingly moved past that phase well before the fateful blind date. Also, when she said she didn't know much about the British Royals in their interview, I don't she meant literally not recognizing who he was. Behind the scenes footage:

  5. They probably play to retired Americans visiting/living in Mexico. For old school Elvis or Sinatra impersonators, I suppose it's easier to say that Las Vegas has changed than to acknowledge that the natural audience for Elvis and Sinatra impersonators is dwindling.
  6. Black Panther takes its fifth weekend at #1, the first movie to stay at the top that long since Avatar, and also crosses the $600 million mark. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Peter Rabbit also hit major milestones, and Fifty Shades Freed isn't far behind. I had hoped Love, Simon would break out, but it's not a bad start and it might turn out not to be very frontloaded. Tomb Raider will have to hope the rest of the world likes it better, and I Can Only Imagine how many other famous contemporary Christian/gospel songs are going to be fast-tracked into movie adaptations! March 16–18, 2018 Estimates: 1 (1) Black Panther $27,024,000 | 3,834 Theaters | $7,049 Avg. | $200M Budget | $605,400,528 2 (N) Tomb Raider (2018) $23,525,000 | 3,854 Theaters | $6,104 Avg. | $94M Budget | $23,525,000 3 (N) I Can Only Imagine $17,064,640 | 1,629 Theaters | $10,476 Avg. | $7M Budget | $17,064,640 4 (2) A Wrinkle in Time $16,565,000 | 3,980 Theaters | $4,162 Avg. | $100M Budget | $61,059,654 5 (N) Love, Simon $11,500,000 | 2,402 Theaters | $4,788 Avg. | $17M Budget | $11,500,000 6 (5) Game Night $5,570,000 | 2,686 Theaters | $2,074 Avg. | $37M Budget | $54,174,184 7 (6) Peter Rabbit $5,200,000 | 2,725 Theaters | $1,908 Avg. | $50M Budget | $102,440,268 8 (3) The Strangers: Prey at Night $4,810,000 | 2,464 Theaters | $1,952 Avg. | $5M Budget | $18,612,052 9 (4) Red Sparrow $4,450,000 | 2,583 Theaters | $1,723 Avg. | $69M Budget | $39,583,642 10 (7) Death Wish (2018) $3,368,000 | 2,676 Theaters | $1,259 Avg. | $30M Budget | $29,949,685 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $1,650,000 | 1,556 Theaters | $1,060 Avg. | $90M Budget | $400,273,598 7 Days in Entebbe $1,628,000 | 838 Theaters | $1,943 Avg. | $1,628,000 The Greatest Showman $1,175,000 | 737 Theaters | $1,594 Avg. | $84M Budget | $169,744,618 The Shape of Water $800,000 | 758 Theaters | $1,055 Avg. | $19.5M Budget | $62,688,637 Fifty Shades Freed $615,000 | 873 Theaters | $704 Avg. | $55M Budget | $99,632,300 The Death of Stalin $580,576 | 32 Theaters | $18,143 Avg. | $843,967 Thoroughbreds $470,000 | 564 Theaters | $833 Avg. | $2,278,360 Flower $57,851 | 3 Theaters | $19,284 Avg. | $57,851 International Box Office: BLACK PANTHER: $577.1M Overseas Total | $1.182B Global Total JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE: $539.4M Overseas Total | $939.7M Global Total THE GREATEST SHOWMAN: $229M Overseas Total | $398.8M Global Total FIFTY SHADES FREED: $265.4M Overseas Total | $365M Global Total THE SHAPE OF WATER: $110.8M Overseas Total | $173.5M Global Total THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI: $95.5M Overseas Total | $149.4M Global Total TOMB RAIDER (2018): 102.5M Overseas Total | $126.0M Global Total RED SPARROW: $66.6M Overseas Total | $106.1M Global Total GAME NIGHT: $30.5M Overseas Total | $84.6M Global Total A WRINKLE IN TIME: $10.6M Overseas Total | $71.6M Global Total
  7. Right, if this were Dumbledore's teen summer romance with a witch gone bad, Rita Skeeter's excerpts would have just said that plainly, without having to resort to hints and confirmations outside of canon. Here we are, more than 10 years later and they still don't want to be too overt. I think it's really cowardly at this point considering that she seems to want credit for being progressive, too. She says this world is LGBT friendly but never showing it really undercuts that argument. The His Dark Materials series started out a couple of years before the first HP book, also straddles the line of children's/YA fantasy and features a same sex pairing with secondary characters. They made the first book into a movie, but the series was never ever on the same level of popularity as Potter and was always more intentionally, inherently provocative and controversial. So, since a retelling of Paradise Lost for kids with the Church as the Big Bad was always too much for moralists anyway, there was the freedom to write in a gay relationship and not have to worry about, "How will this play in conservative countries?" or "What will this do to the toy sales?" Sure, saying Dumbledore was gay in the story would have scandalized some corners, but probably would have brought in more people who'd dismissed the series as too kiddie for something like that. By 2007, I don't think the idea of an unmarried woman getting pregnant was that shocking for a YA story, yet Rowling hurriedly married Lupin and Tonks in DH despite his extreme reluctance and misgivings, lest little Teddy have been conceived outside of wedlock. If that was apparently too daring to write, I'd think outing a character on the page would have been a far bigger deal for her. Another writer might have done it, though, even 11 years ago.
  8. I took the original poster to be referring to Deja's chemistry with the family (or supposed lack thereof) in terms of what it means for making a compelling TV show. In real life, no, a foster kid wouldn't be rejected for not having chemistry with everyone else, but when you're writing fictional characters you get to make them any way you want. Obviously, the writers like what they've done with Deja and her personality, but her friend from the last episode shows there are other approaches to take that wouldn't have minimized the struggles of going through the system.
  9. Poor Chicken Lady, if only someone were ever around to tell the children not to run in the house!
  10. Rebecca is younger than Jack. The Big Three were born on his 36th birthday and I think Rebecca was 30. She'd be 67 now and 87 in 20 years, so still old if not quite nonagenarian. Was I just thrown by finally seeing Old Jack, or was his ageing makep better than usual for this show?
  11. Four straight weekends at #1 for Black Panther—as of the estimates, the third-best fourth weekend ever. It also becomes the first MCU movie without Iron Man to cross the billion dollar mark globally. A Wrinkle In Time starts about as well as other live action, non-sequel adventures from Disney like Tommorowland, John Carter and Prince of Persia. All got reviews that...weren't the best, though the others cost around twice as much as AWIT. So it has a chance not to become a tax writeoff, and might eventually turn a profit, at least. March 9–11, 2018 Estimates: 1 (1) Black Panther $41,136,000 | 3,942 Theaters | $10,435 Avg. | $200M Budget | $562,015,601 2 (N) A Wrinkle in Time $33,316,000 | 3,980 Theaters | $8,371 Avg. | $100M Budget | $33,316,000 3 (N) The Strangers: Prey at Night $10,480,000 | 2,464 Theaters | $4,253 Avg. | $5M Budget | $10,480,000 4 (2) Red Sparrow $8,150,000 | 3,064 Theaters | $2,660 Avg. | $69M Budget | $31,118,743 5 (4) Game Night $7,905,000 | 3,061 Theaters | $2,582 Avg. | $37M Budget | $45,045,632 6 (5) Peter Rabbit $6,800,000 | 3,112 Theaters | $2,185 Avg. | $50M Budget | $93,457,806 7 (3) Death Wish (2018) $6,600,000 | 2,882 Theaters | $2,290 Avg. | $30M Budget | $23,875,301 8 (6) Annihilation $3,302,319 | 1,709 Theaters | $1,932 Avg. | $40M Budget | $26,246,833 9 (N) The Hurricane Heist $3,024,399 | 2,402 Theaters | $1,259 Avg. | $35M Budget | $3,024,399 10 (7) Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $2,755,000 | 2,157 Theaters | $1,277 Avg. | $90M Budget | $397,263,020 11 (N) Gringo $2,630,000 | 2,404 Theaters | $1,094 Avg. | $2,630,000 12 (11) The Shape of Water $2,407,000 | 1,552 Theaters | $1,551 Avg. | $19.5M Budget | $61,000,138 13 (9) The Greatest Showman $1,775,000 | 952 Theaters | $1,864 Avg. | $84M Budget | $167,475,401 14 (8) Fifty Shades Freed $1,350,000 | 1,357 Theaters | $995 Avg. | $55M Budget | $98,363,595 15 (N) Thoroughbreds $1,223,000 | 549 Theaters | $2,228 Avg. | $1,223,000 The Death of Stalin $181,308 | 4 Theaters | $45,327 Avg. | $181,308 The Leisure Seeker $119,573 | 28 Theaters | $4,270 Avg. | $119,573 International Box Office: BLACK PANTHER: $516.6M Overseas Total | $1.078B Global Total JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE: $536.8M Overseas Total | $934.1M Global Total THE GREATEST SHOWMAN: $221.1M Overseas Total | $388.5M Global Total FIFTY SHADES FREED: $261M Overseas Total | $359.3M Global Total WONDER: $164.4M Overseas Total | $296.7M Global Total THE SHAPE OF WATER: $87.4M Overseas Total | $148.4M Global Total (it's more popular in Mexico than The Last Jedi) PETER RABBIT: $26.2M Overseas Total | $119.6M Global Total RED SPARROW: $51.8M Overseas Total | $82.9M Global Total GAME NIGHT: $24.7M Overseas Total | $69.7M Global Total A WRINKLE IN TIME: $6.3M Overseas Total | $39.6M Global Total TOMB RAIDER (2018): $14.1M overseas & Global Total
  12. Going on about that so publicly seems not smart on his part. Most people are aware that apps from businesses can track your location but I don't know if don't like to be reminded about it. I think the subscription model is only going to get bigger in America, but I don't know how long it will be in the form of MoviePass. They're suing a rival ticketing app (Sinemia) that on its surface doesn't offer the same bargain MoviePass does but they obviously feel threatened: https://www.google.com/amp/variety.com/2018/film/news/moviepass-sues-sinemia-1202709289/amp/
  13. Of course not everyone who is adopted or grows up close to it goes on to adopt themselves, but Randall seems so organized and is such a planner, that I'd think the decision whether or not to adopt would have been something he decided (or at least seriously contemplated) before he ever started having kids. One real life celebrity example I know of is Katherine Heigl: she has a sister who is adoped and she (KH) says she knew for years that she wanted to adopt when starting her own family. She's said adoption was so important to her that it was a dealbreaker when it came to marriage-any man she was going to marry simply had to be on board. I know Randall's epiphany about adoption came in the wake of William's death, but he adored Jack and tries to emulate him in many ways. I wonder how much Randall only wanting to adopt within the last year is a function of the show's timeline, since we were first introduced to the character at 36 rather than when he was younger and just starting to settle down. That happens a lot with the show. Sometimes I feel that the Big Three's storylines in the present seem about ten years too young for them, and they're dealing with stuff now that would make more sense for them to have worked out in their 20s.
  14. Kimmel wanted to know if Arie proposed to Lauren with the ring he used for Becca and Arie indicated that it was a different one.
  15. I was referring to the year that Gwyneth beat Cate for Oscar (in a very awkwardly worded way!). I think if Gwyneth really wanted challenging roles again, she'd find them, in indie films or TV or the stage. She just seems more driven these days to promote ridiculous health advice and a very indulgent lifestyle brand.
  16. I don't think that was her decision, exactly. She brought on David Fincher to the project and he didn't want to cast her as Amy. Theoretically, though, I suppose she could have fired him for a different director who would have been happy with her in the role, but it probably wouldn't have been someone as well regarded as Fincher. If Ben Affleck hadn't been Nick, I think Gwyneth Paltrow would have also been a good choice for Amy, if she was still interested in acting. Maybe the consensus now is that Cate Blanchett should have won the Oscar that year, but I felt Gwyneth was fairly talented at acting, unlike a lot of the other stars who've drifted away from the profession that made them famous to become lifestyle gurus/fashion moguls/etc.
  17. Great again for Black Panther: passes the $500 million mark with the third best third weekend ever (with estimates, the final numbers could move it to second). Death Wish and Red Sparrow were involved in some MoviePass shenanigans that may have impacted both weekends: MoviePass, who have a promotional deal with Death Wish, blocked Red Sparrow sales in selected markets. MoviePass says this was merely part of "ongoing testing" to "better understand member behavior". Aside from that, Red Sparrow's reviews are mixed and it was never completely able to shake the comparisons to Black Widow. March 2–4, 2018 Estimates: 1 (1) Black Panther $65,705,000 | 4,084 Theaters | $16,088 Avg. | $200M Budget | $501,105,037 2 (N) Red Sparrow $17,000,000 | 3,056 Theaters | $5,563 Avg. | $69M Budget | $17,000,000 3 (N) Death Wish (2018) $13,025,000 | 2,847 Theaters | $4,575 Avg. | $30M Budget | $13,025,000 4 (2) Game Night $10,710,000 | 3,502 Theaters | $3,058 Avg. | $37M Budget | $33,537,766 5 (3) Peter Rabbit $10,000,000 | 3,607 Theaters | $2,772 Avg. | $50M Budget | $84,060,376 6 (4) Annihilation $5,650,000 | 2,112 Theaters | $2,675 Avg. | $40M Budget | $20,636,742 7 (6) Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $4,500,000 | 2,313 Theaters | $1,946 Avg. | $90M Budget | $393,201,353 8 (5) Fifty Shades Freed $3,310,000 | 2,614 Theaters | $1,266 Avg. | $55M Budget | $95,599,460 9 (8) The Greatest Showman $2,675,000 | 1,407 Theaters | $1,901 Avg. | $84M Budget | $164,616,443 10 (9) Every Day $1,560,029 | 1,669 Theaters | $935 Avg. | $4.9M Budget | $5,260,833 Best Picture Watch: Dunkirk $188,373,161 Get Out $176,040,665 The Post $80,369,969 The Shape of Water $57,393,976 Darkest Hour $55,421,217 Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri $52,000,189 Lady Bird $48,285,330 Phantom Thread $20,127,164 Call Me by Your Name $17,045,988 Total Gross: $695,057,659 Average Gross: $77,228,629 International Box Office: JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE: $535.7M Overseas Total | $928.9M Global Total BLACK PANTHER: $396.6M Overseas Total | $897.7M Global Total THE GREATEST SHOWMAN: $211.2M Overseas Total | $375.8M Global Total FIFTY SHADES FREED: $250.6 Overseas Total | $346.2M Global Total MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE: $222M Overseas Total | $279M Global Total DARKEST HOUR: $83.1M Overseas Total | $138.5M Global Total THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI: $79M Overseas Total | $131M Global Total THE SHAPE OF WATER: $69M Overseas Total | $126.3M Global Total PETER RABBIT: $17.8M Overseas Total | $101.9M Global Total DEN OF THIEVES: $25.8M Overseas Total | $70.2M Global Total LADY BIRD: $11.1M Overseas Total | $59.3M Global Total ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD: $28.8M Overseas Total | $53.8M Global Total THE 15:17 TO PARIS: $15.4M Overseas Total | $50.4M Global Tota GAME NIGHT: $16M Overseas Total | $49.5M Global Total RED SPARROW: $26.5M Overseas Total | $43.5M Global Total PHANTOM THREAD: $17.9M Overseas Total | $38M Global Total

  19. Bekah appeared on the Bachelor Party podcast. She elaborates on the time she was declared missing: Here's the whole podcast:
  20. Most of Kate's crew are probably based in LA. There is (was?) a whole show about an airline's weekend flights back and forth from LA to Vegas, so out there I guess it wouldn't seem like such a faraway destination...
  21. Just read in The Ringer's recap that Laura Fleiss is a former Miss America and the wife of Mike Fleiss. Of course... https://www.theringer.com/tv/2018/2/26/17055804/the-bachelor-season-22-week-9-recap
  22. I think Black Panther is bringing in people don't see all the MCU movies. Some of them will go see Infinity War because BP is in it but not all of them and not nearly as many repeat viewings. Some people thought Wonder Woman's presence would give Justice League a boost and it didn't, really (or maybe it did and without her it would have done even worse!). I don't think IW is going to be a Justice League-level flop or anything, but my prediction is that BP will make more in the end.
