I fast forward to skip the Corey and Jenny story. And why do friends and family feel they have a right to meddle in the relationships? These people are sad and mean-spirited. Wouldn’t a better reaction be to butt out because you didn’t want to hurt them?

I don’t know why people think parental and environmental influences just magically become null upon adulthood. I am listening to a woman who is describing how her mom taught her how to pickpocket men who were passed out from drinking. She had no idea she was supposed to be learning other things. And even though she grew morally there remains elements from that and you can tell by the way she talks about her own kids.

What stands out about the family is that they seem pretty much smart. It's their responses to their situation that is noticeable, not the scripted parts. And they seem pretty worldly to say they have been cloistered and shielded. I'm not buying this strict parenting storyline.

I watched a documentary about Haitian life. A common food is dirt pie. It is made on the ground and an ingredient is butter. There were people in line to buy them.
